Committed to Miami.

Raheam Buxton is the guy he's talkin' about.... goes 5'11" 151, ran a nice 4.89

Solid offer list of Central Mich, Western Mich, SouthernMiss... and Miami.

We might not even have room for Payne though.
Perhaps the coaches see something that others don't see in the Pahokee kid. And frankly, with their pedigree, I'd give the kid the benefitof the doubt. Could be a late bloomer. Going against the likes of Dunkley, Pickett and Johnson everyday in practice can't hurt.

And that's crazy about the Payne news. It's going to be interesting to see what happens w/ him. Because I know UM, Fsu and another school (can'tremember) are in his top 3. He said something like he thought about committing at Showtime (probably attributed to the rush of emotions that has probaly wornoff by now) but FSU already has 2 CB commit's and look good for LJ and Terrence Mitchell. I think they are on'y taking 4 CB's so it'll beinteresting to see if he wanted to commit, if FSU would take him.

Also, latest mumblings have LJ possibly playing safety when he gets to Tally. Well, should he get to Tally
tongue.gif
. Apparently he expressed some interest in it.

_'s on message boards are like "Yeah, he could be Bob Sanders x Eric Berry"

Oh word?

I mean I like the kid, don't get me wrong, and he's and ELITE talent, but lets slow down here.

Completely agree... I trust the coaching staffs evaluation. And who are our mediocre players? Buxton and Walford? I rather take a chance onplayers
from Pahokee and Belle Glades than a lot of other schools. Its not like they are playing against some weak competition.

Talk about it in The Tribal Council
It's no secret Auburn lacks depth at offensive tackle.

The position is a top priority for the 2010 class. But AU won't have to wait a year to upgrade their offensive line. Help is on the way in just a couple of weeks.

Four-star offensive tackle Aubrey Phillips, who signed with Florida State in February, has left the Seminole program and will enroll at Auburn this fall.

AuburnSports.com
Phillips plans to report to Auburn before the start of fall practice.
"I plan on going to Auburn University," Phillips said. "I feel at home in Auburn. I feel like they treat me like family."

Phillips also considered Alabama and Arkansas but chose Auburn after a visit to the Plains Sunday, where he met with head coach Gene Chizik and several assistants including Trooper Taylor and Jeff Grimes.

"I've known Coach Trooper Taylor for three years now," Phillips said. "The coaches treated me like I was on the team already. They want me to come in and play early. I have an opportunity to play quick down there at Auburn."

Phillips reported to FSU to begin summer school and workouts June 21 but was gone after just three weeks.

"The reason I left Florida State is because they were mistreating me," Phillips said.

It didn't start that way. According to Phillips, he followed Florida State orders to participate in daily 5:00 am workouts and lost 15 pounds after reporting at 340.

"(Coach Rick Trickett) was telling me I was doing good," Phillips said.

But then things changed. Phillips said Trickett told him he was out of shape, that he might not play for him and signing him might have been a mistake.

"Coach Trickett told me I couldn't sit by the linemen at lunch. He told me I couldn't talk to them or be around them. He told me I wasn't a lineman anymore and the only reason I was part of the team was because of the Letter of Intent."

Phillips said he currently weighs 326 pounds.

NCAA transfer rules could force Phillips to sit out his first year but Auburn is expected to file a waiver asking for immediate eligibility. Phillips is confident he'll regain his eligibility for this fall.

"Since Florida State is going on probation and all that, the waiver should go through and I'll be eligible to play this year," Phillips said.

Florida State was put on four year's probation in March due to an academic cheating scandal that involved 10 sports. The football team had to vacate 14 wins and lose a total of three scholarships over the next two years. FSU has appealed to have the wins reinstated.

"If I had known about that probation earlier, I would have never signed with Florida State," Phillips said. "I wish I could go back to Signing Day and sign with Auburn the way it should have been."

Phillips, rated a four-star prospect out of Olive Branch (Miss.) High School, took official visits to Arkansas, Tennessee, FSU and Auburn in January. The Tigers signed his teammate, safety Daren Bates, who accompanied him to AU this weekend.

Auburn already has a commitment from Olive Branch 2010 offensive tackle Shon Coleman and is recruiting another rising senior o-tackle in four-star Damien Robinson.

"It feels great knowing my buddy, Daren Bates, will be there with me," Phillips said. "Shon Coleman will come next year as well. Damien doesn't know what he's going to do yet but we're going to try to get him to come so we can have the whole Olive Branch line there."

So, look.

This is what the 'insider' says.

Before Aubrey signed, he was tipping the scale at 330 lbs.

Trickett recruited him and TOLD him that in order to play for his line, he would have to lose weight. He said he needed to report to camp at between 295-310.

Phillips commits to FSU and basically accepts the agreement. He KNOWS what kinda coach RT is. Knows how hard, demanding, crazy the marine is.

Phillips reports to camp. Weighs in at 350.

Trickett can't even work w/ the kid because coaches aren't allowed to work w/ the team yet. Only people that can work w/ them are GA's (And one ofTrickett's sons is a GA) and S&C coaches.

I'm sure RT had a meeting w/ Aubrey and voiced his opinion.

Kid leaves.

*sigh* Stars have nothing to do with it. I actually watch FL HS football. My opinions are formed but what I've actually seen players do on field. Not bywhat I've read on Rivals or Scout. Recruiting is not an exact science but chances are...if a player wasn't that great in HS...he's not going to bethat great in college. It's called a reach. And it's okay to have a couple in your recruiting class, but you shouldn't have a class mostly made upof them. Which is what we're looking like right now. I personally DON'T trust the staff's evaluation at certain positions. Specifically in thesecondary. And you can't blame that all on Coker because Randy was DC even before he became HC so he has had a hand in our secondary becoming so atrocious. And there's people who know way more than me about our recruiting and know a lot more about what's really happening internally that have the sameconcerns.

How has Brandon McGee been doing?

And UF fans, how has Patchans transition back to OL been? And what's good w/ Will Hill? Will he get more burn this year?

The 10 most dangerous spread offense QBs

Monday, July 20, 2009 | Feedback | Print Entry

The spread has become the in thing in college football in the past dozen years, despite its somewhat vague description. Some spreads employ a running QB (RichRodriguez's WVU attack). Some spreads don't have the QB run at all (Texas Tech). Some allow the QB to run just enough to keep the defense worried aboutit (Mizzou's Chase Daniel-led offense). This week's top-10 list: the dual-threat QBs who would be most dangerous in a spread. (Caveat: I'm usingthe more run-based spread here and some of these guys may not play in a pure spread, but we're looking at QBs who could excel in that scheme.)

1. Colt McCoy, Texas: Like the feet. Love the accurate, quick-trigger arm. McCoy unloads it about as quickly as any QB and hits on a ridiculously highpercentage. He completed an amazing 77 percent of his passes and also rushed for 11 TDs on a team that really didn't have a feature RB.

To see where Tim Tebow and Terrelle Pryor rank on Bruce's list and to read news on Frank Gore's cousin and Barry Sanders' son as recruitingprospects, you must be an ESPN Insider.

2. Tim Tebow, Florida: This guy is the Escalade of spread QBs. Tebow is a hybrid fullback-QB with the grit to be a lethal Red Zone weapon and grind out yardson third downs. Not quite the passer that McCoy is and doesn't have the sheer blazing speed as a few of the guys on this list, but still a proven star whomakes great decisions and has off-the-charts leadership and toughness.

3. Colin Kaepernick, Nevada: Only Robert Griffin may be a more dangerous runner than the 6-foot-6, 215-pound junior, who ran for more than 1,000 yards lastseason. The former baseball standout has a very live arm and made dramatic strides last fall, throwing 22 TDs against just 7 INTs.

4. Robert Griffin, Baylor: Speaking of Griffin, he could be the fastest man to ever play QB in college football. But he also proved to be a savvydecision-maker, with a 15-3 TD-INT ratio as a true freshman while running for 1,118 yards from scrimmage (it was 843 if you include the negative plays) and 13TDs.

5. Juice Williams, Illinois: Tough, tough runner at around 6-2, 235, who pounded his way for 719 yards last season, and he also has a powerful arm. Thedownside: needs to cut down on the turnovers (16 INTs).

6. Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State: A one-time high school receiver, Robinson tends to get lost in the Bradford/McCoy hype, which is a shame. He has good feet, avery accurate arm and good size at 6-3, 215.

7. Jeremiah Masoli, Oregon: He's short (around 5-10) and built more like a fullback than a QB, but Chip Kelly has done a great job of moving him around andgiving him different release points. Masoli has a very powerful arm and can run over tacklers. Ask Oklahoma State how dangerous a dual-threat guy he is.

8. Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State: Another awesome young talent. Not as explosive as Griffin, but even bigger. Needs to get better at trusting his arm andanticipating, scouts say, but he can carry this offense as the Buckeyes try to replace a lot of key skill talent that has moved on to the NFL.

9. Daryll Clark, Penn State: Solid and sturdy guy. Not a big threat as a runner, with only two runs longer than 20 yards last season, and they were 22 and 24yards each. Also, TD-INT ratio in games away from Happy Valley (7-5) puts him a little further down this list.

10. Matt Grothe, USF: In the mold of Juice Williams and Tebow but smaller, Grothe can shoulder the ground attack for his team. However, like Williams, he doestend to force the issue a bit too much, and that is reflected in a 18-14 TD-INT ratio.

Just missed the cut: Todd Reesing, Kansas; Russell Wilson, NC State; Tyrod Taylor, VT; Case Keenum, Houston; Joe Webb, UAB; Mike Kafka, Northwestern.

You don't have to be a recruiting guru to know that you don't reach for kids who have proven nothing on the field yet. It's July, there's noreason we couldn't have waited to offer the TE, and CB commits we just took until after they played their senior year when they haven't done #%%$ intheir entire HS career.

They're reaches. You don't load up your class with reaches IN JULY when there's still elite players available. What happens when January comesaround and the elite players decide they want to come here? There's no room for them. And we're stuck with the reaches and we have to hope they panout. And in case you didn't notice...in recent history our coaches don't have the best of track records for being able to coach kids up.

These kids don't even have a highlight tape.

FYI, i go to these games and watch them on TV. Not just the playoffs kid. Highlight tapes only show you a player's strengths. Not his weaknesses. I'mnot just talking out of my $$# here like some people.

^^ ok so you're traveling all over florida watching games and somehow getting your hands on coaches tapes....

It's going very very well. If he can stay heathly and get some weight it's possible he could start at LT. Moving Carl inside to guard.

Will should get more PT but he did play a lot as a FR. It's just hard with Major and Ahmad ahead of him. Personally I like Will more than Major but myopinion doesn't matter.

^not sure about the news on Patchan. I think Carl has the LT spot pretty much wrapped up as the starter first week. I'll also through it out there that Ithink OL James Wilson may transfer before the season starts. Haven't heard any news about him making a push to crack the starting lineup and he was closeto transferring last year. Not even sure if he's on the second unit at this point. Don't think that the injuries are what is keeping him back anymore.
Also think Will should start over Major, Major is a liability in the passing game. I think at this point Charlie is looking for a reason to put Will in as thestarter but Ahmad and Major aren't giving him a good reason too. Will does get a lot of pt as is though - especially on passing downs.

Not sure about the accuracy of this story:
SN100 WR/LB McCay has six schools in mind
Sporting News

The myriad of schools chasing Justin McCay are slowly being eliminated. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound receiver/outside linebacker out of Bishop Miege (Shawnee, Kan.) has a couple nearby Big 12 powers in his most recent list, but there are also some SEC schools that have impressed the athlete, he told Sporting News.

"I like a few schools, like Oklahoma, Missouri, Florida, K-State (Kansas State), Tennessee and Georgia," McCay told SN. "Recruiting has all been good. It's what you make of it, and I'm doing pretty good about it. All the hard work's paying off."

McCay, who is a member of the inaugural preseason Sporting News Top 100, got his first scholarship offer from Wisconsin. Oregon, Florida State, Kansas, Nebraska, North Carolina and Notre Dame also offered scholarships, but have all been eliminated from contention.

As a junior, McCay caught 31 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns, while also scoring four touchdowns as a kick returner. He also added 54 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble at his linebacker position.

"Wherever you need me on the field, I'll play it," McCay said to SN. "The stats said I scored every four times I touched the ball, that's my stats for the year. Whether it's kicks, or a catch-and-run in the backfield, or at receiver or punt returner."

Know Urbie and his hs coach are very close and I figured it'd be a race between OK, us, and ND in that order. But surprised nd is not on the list. Justin will be at FNL this weekend.

Man its not even about me. All i care about is winning. Thats hard to do when you're rejecting eite prospects in favor of mediocre ones. I find it hard tobelieve Randy and his staff are just some recruiting geniuses that see something in these kids nobody else in the country does. Not when these other coacheshave been doing it a lot longer and have had much more success than him. But hey...if all these kids pan out then Randy will look like a genius. I hopethat's the case but Randy hasn't done enough for me to have that kind of blind faith in him.

Local wide receiver not rushing things

Talk about it in the Message Boards
Even though Kadron Boone has recognized Florida's recruiting class is filling up quickly, the Ocala Trinity Catholic wide receiver said he's notrushing into a decision and will commit to a school on his timetable.

Boone will be at Gridiron Kings this weekend.
Nine programs remain in the running for Boone, a four-star recruit who finished with 57 receptions for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. Rivals.comrates him No. 19 at his position and he's included in the top 250.

Florida is considered one of the major players and Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas Tech have also made thecut.

"(Florida) was one of my first offers and that really shocked me," Boone said. "They're loading up pretty fast but I really like the wayUrban Meyer is running things up there. The receivers coach (Billy Gonzales) and I get along really well and me and the quarterbacks coach, coach (Scot)Loeffler, have a great relationship, too.

"If it's going to work out, it's going to work out. If a school is trying to pressure me into committing and I'm not ready I have a problemwith that. I'm going to commit when I feel comfortable with that place. I'm not going to rush into anything."

Boone, who might miss Friday Night Lights because he'll be in Orlando for the Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 event, confirmed recent rumors that Texas Tech wasunder serious consideration. With the Red Raiders' spread offense, Boone said they have to be looked at because playing there would showcase all of hisskills.

"With me being a receiver, they throw the ball a lot," Boone said. "That's the one thing that really caught my eye. It's pretty much aspread offense, an open offense and it caught my attention when I first saw it and then they offered me and it's just gone from there.

"My top nine schools are all serious. They've been coming at me heavily, they've been recruiting me the same. Nothing has changed about them.I'm just taking my time, looking to narrow them down and go from there."

A spread offense is favorable to Boone which puts Florida and a few of his other favorites to the forefront. Last season at Ocala Trinity Catholic, Boone did alot of his damage on the outside even against double teams with a cornerback and safety. He said his recruitment is still pretty "wide open."

Finding a college system that is similar, where multiple receivers are spread wide and Boone can run his routes is preferable. Texas Tech intrigues because itis so wide open and the Red Raiders pass all the time. Florida has been a longtime favorite. And the other seven schools all have something to offer in thepassing game.

"The spread gives me an opportunity to showcase my skills," Boone said. "With a spread offense, defenses have to come at you in different waysand it just showcases my skills to see what I can do when I get it."

Miami fans will never be happy. I for one think Shannon is doing good on recruits. We still have about what, between 9 or 10 scholarships? (Not too sure)

It's not like Shannon and Co. don't know how to recruit. For the past 2 classes I would have to say he's done pretty damn good considering thestate of Miami
is in right now. And I don't think this class is full of reaches. I would say 2 or 3 maybe. The rest are players that Miami targeted and got.

thats what i'm saying...our past 2 classes have been great...Yes this year seems different but ima trust that they know what they're doing....Idon't really think this year is a strong year anyway overall or maybe its cause i havent kept up w/ it as much this year...idk...

G-Town I hear you about CJ. But I though Urban/Steve wanted to put out the 5 best lineman period. MP x2, CJ, Gilbert have spots locked up. CJ can play at Tor G which is why they can take the 5 best OL. It's gonna be a matter of who that 5th OL will be. I don't know what is up with James, he has a ton oftalent but injuries did slow him down. He did want to leave but that was him mostly feeling left out of the team because of the injuries, he couldn't dothe things the rest of his teammates were doing. Once he got healthy he decided to stay.

I'd like Patchan to win the LT job and move CJ inside just because Patchan is more athletic and can move his feet to handle the speed rushers and does havegood enough strength. CJ is still in the 330's and I'm not sure how he could handle that. G is a much easier position for him.
