Vontaze Burfict, an All-American linebacker from Corona Centennial High School, will sign with Arizona State, The Press-Enterprise has learned.

A representative of the school called USC on Tuesday to inform the coaches that Burfict would sign with the Sun Devils on Wednesday, the first day for high school recruits to sign national letters of intent.

Burfict originally committed verbally to USC over the summer but recently re-opened the recruiting process. In an interview last week, Burfict said he preferred Arizona State because the school has provided an academic map of what he needs to complete in order to become eligible.

Story continues below

Burfict, the area's top-ranked recruit, was the top linebacker on the Parade Magazine All-America team. He had 146 tackles and helped lead Centennial to a 15-0 record. The Huskies won the California State Division I Bowl game and were named the state team of the year by CalHiSports.com. The Huskies finished No. 2 in the nation in the final USA Today rankings.

After the season, Burfict played in the U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio and the Inland Empire All-Star Football Classic in Rancho Cucamonga.

, he wanted to be at USC badly, I am assuming beingacademically ineligible made him choose ASU. At least that is the rumor floating around, and it is clear in the article. He had to take 7 online courses tomake up for incomplete coursework. Also, he has pals at ASU.

I was looking forward to him showing up at Howard Jones Field.....oh well.

Hey Browneye fans, I thought this dope had his drinking under control?

I know I'm late with the story but the pic is too good not to post. No shirt? How white trash of him.

Going to have to take Justin Green off that list. He just decommitted and is heading to Illinois. Still will be a top-5 class. Awesome job by thestaff.

ooIRON MANoo I think Frankie Telfort will commit to USC, I've been seeing him at high school games lately and he's always wearing a Trojans shirt. Youall are lucky, you're getting a great player.
Several candidates for a Signing Day switch
Mike Farrell
Recruiting Analyst
MORE: Counting Down to Signing Day | Announcement Watch | Signing Day Wire| NSD Predictions

Every year, there are players who switch their commitments on National Signing Day, delighting some fan bases and infuriating others. This year there seem to be more candidates to switch than ever.

Here is a look at a few of them:

TRENTRICHARDSON9_24A200.JPG
spacer1.gif
spacer1.gif
Trent Richardson has made some Alabama fans nervous with his recent visits.
RB Trent Richardson: The nation's No. 2 running back and No. 6 player overall has been committed to Alabama since June, but he has a tough decision to make on Signing Day. Richardson has taken official visits to Florida, LSU and Florida State, and it wouldn't be a stunner if he changed his mind. But Alabama has the edge going into Wednesday.

LB Vontaze Burfict: Burfict is another national top-10 player who has been committed for quite some time but will really make his choice Wednesday. In this case the school he's committed to, USC, is the underdog. Burfict has been committed to USC since last February, but rumors are strong that he'll be signing with Arizona State.

DT Gary Brown: Publicly, Brown is listed as a solid commitment to Florida. Privately, there is more going on. Florida State has been making a strong push for Brown, who lives about 15 miles from Tallahassee, in Quincy. While most sources say he'll sign with Florida, there are some out there who think he might switch to FSU.

ATH Randall Carroll: As with Burfict, USC holds a commitment from Carroll, but the Trojans don't seem likely to sign him. Carroll has been committed to USC since the beginning of his junior season, but he opened things up this past summer. It seems as if UCLA is his likely destination. If it's not the Bruins, watch out for California and Arizona State.

WR Alshon Jeffery: He's another Southern Cal commitment who is looking around and won't decide until NSD. Jeffery, from St. Matthews, S.C., committed to the Trojans in June, but he opened up things in November and took official visits to Tennessee and South Carolina. There is a lot of talk about Jeffery deciding to stay closer to home and playing for either the Vols or Gamecocks. He could be the third Rivals100 prospect to de-commit from the Trojans and sign elsewhere.

Others to watch: RB Bryce Brown (Miami commitment looking at Auburn, Kansas State, Missouri, Oregon and USC), WR Andre DeBose (Florida commitment looking at Florida State), CB Janzen Jackson (LSU commitment looking at Alabama and Tennessee), WR Nu'Keese Richardson (Florida commitment looking at Tennessee), DT Sheldon Richardson (Missouri commitment looking at Miami) and ATH Marsalis Teague (Florida commitment looking at Tennessee and Alabama).

Still on the Board: Top uncommitted prospects

Hopefully UM's class stays intact and there are no real big surprises.

I'm hoping Richardson switches his commitment from Mizzou and maybe we get 1 more OL.

If not im happy overall with the class coming in. Word is the 2010 South Fla. talent is LOADED next year.

Save a couple of scholarships next year and lock down the South again.

Looks pretty legit that Justin Greene is Illini now. Wonder if the vest sends a LOI over to Mike Edwards from Glenville tomorrow? Mind as well just bank thescholly but Edwards seems good enough to take.
