The Ku Klux Klan's short-lived rally on the Ole Miss campus Saturday didn't disrupt the electric game day atmosphere for the second annual Magnolia Bowl, but that brief appearance could alter the Rebels' recruiting - at least with one prospect.
Monticello (Lawrence County), Miss., athlete Matthew Wells, a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, planned to attend Ole Miss' dramatic 25-23 victory over then-No. 10 LSU but decided Saturday morning to skip the game due to the likely presence of the KKK.
"I was going to go and had been looking forward to it, but my mom didn't want me to go up there and be around that," Wells said.
About one dozen members of the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan assembled on the steps of Fulton Chapel and spent approximately 10 minutes waving flags, performing Nazi-style salutes and randomly gesturing to the about 250 people looking on.
The KKK announced its intentions earlier in the week, citing the removal of "From Dixie With Love" from being played at athletic events as the reason for attendance. While the group's appearance was in protest - and not support - of Ole Miss, the situation remains an uncomfortable one for Wells.
"It's just something to think about," Wells said. "I haven't really spent a lot of time on it or anything, but it's really weird. I'm not necessarily saying it changes anything big as far as my interest in Ole Miss, but it's also understandable to not want to be around it.
"I haven't talked to the Ole Miss coaches about it yet."

Tim Tebow - 1945 yards passing, 14 TDs, 4 INTs. 706 yards rushing @ 4.0 YPC, 11 TDs.
Both are QBs who run the ball better than they throw it. *shrugs* I don't think Masoli is in the same class as Tebow, but I can see why people put himthere.

Well when I went to the bookstore today I asked the guy if they were getting more of the UF pro combat unis in next week. He said probably not they're justdoing it for this weekend, but he said they're probably going to have some more next season. I asked him why was that and he said that UF is supposed to begoing to them permanently starting next season
I hope he was lying cause the Gators have a classic uni that doesn't need to change.

Thats the way I see it. Schools with traditional uniforms like Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, etc.. will keep the pro combat style and materialbut just use it with their old style design of uniforms.Originally Posted by IYE2

yeah, Nike announced that before they released the unis. that the materials and padded compression shorts/shirts would become a permanent staple for the unisof all the schools using them and a few others next year.
florida st. is the only school that's supposed to use the pro combat uni as a permanent alternate. texas mightttt continue to use the throwback designevery few years. ohio st says they're pretty sure their's is a one time thing.
usc turned down a black alternate jersey, and apparently a few other schools did too.

Colorado has announced that Dan Hawkins will continue to coach the Buffaloes and return for his fifth season next year.

Hawkins and his team met with Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn and Colorado chancellor Philip DiStefano Thursday morning where they were informed of his decision. The team was completing its walkthrough practice before its game Friday against Nebraska.

Hawkins' job status had come under heavy scrutiny as the Buffaloes have posted a 3-8 season, although three of their losses have come by seven points or less. They will miss a bowl trip for the third time in Hawkins' four-season tenure coaching them and were the first Big 12 team eliminated from bowl consideration.

Despite those struggles, Bohn said that Hawkins will remain Colorado's coach.
"Dan is our coach," said Bohn. "We continue to have candid, constructive discussions with each other, with campus leadership and with related constituents to review all aspects of the football program. We have made progress on many fronts, but fully realize the importance of improvement and growth of the program in all areas."
Several published reports indicate it would cost Colorado more than $3 million to fire Hawkins.
Hawkins' contract with CU runs through the 2012 season; he originally signed a five-year agreement when hired prior to the 2006 season, and received an extension in October 2008
