Baxter/Prater are still SC but the coaches are MIA right now. They still haven't called them individually which is why they're pissed.

I doubt it regarding Baxter. He sounds furious. Said Pete straight up lied to his face and feels really disrespected.

ehh, Oregon has been Mathis' favorite since what, his sophomore year? I only held out hope cuz of how he said he had a new favorite coming into thisweek....

Rich Rod losing them bloodlines

...up until his era, if you went to King orCass, and you was nice, you went to Michigan. It wasnt even a question.

Did they say he ran a 4.28 though? Where the hell that number come from lol?

Bax is still SC. He said he's decommiting if PC comes back. He's pissed at Pete not SC.

where you hear this? I read something different....

San Diego (Calif.) five-star athlete and USC commit Dillon Baxter is ready for the roller coaster to stop.

Friday morning, Baxter began hearing the reports of Pete Carroll's possible departure as head coach of the USC Trojans. Absolutely stunned by the news, Baxter immediately called several assistant coaches.

Baxter carried 261 times for 2,974 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,922 yards and 25 more touchdowns

Those calls went unanswered.

"The crazy part is, I didn't even find out from the coaches." Baxter explained. "I had news reporters calling me, and all these other colleges coaches telling me to come to their schools instead.

"The SC coaches won't call me back. I don't think they want to talk to me because they don't want to lie to me. But man, I've been a USC commit for four years.

"It's opened my eyes and taught me that this is a business. You have to look out for your best interests and where you fit in."

At this point, Baxter suspects silence as a substitute for the inevitable news that Carroll is indeed leaving for Seattle. However, that is only an assumption.

Not hearing from the coaching staff is the main source of his disappointment.

"I've recruited so many guys and told them then coaches are great," said Baxter. "I mean the coaches are great, I'm not going to take that from them, but I don't know when coach Carroll pulls something like this.

"Hopefully he doesn't go. He's a great coach, one of the greatest in the world."

As an early enrollees, Baxter, Hillside (Ill.) receiver Kyle Prater, Fontana (Calif.) athlete Anthony Brown and San Diego (Calif.) junior college offensive tackle Brice Schwab, were all expected to on campus at USC Monday morning.

With Baxter's faith in Carroll shaken, he now has to consider the unthinkable.

"If worst comes to worst and (Carroll) leaves, I honestly don't know." said Baxter. "He was one of the main reasons I wanted to go there.

"I do want to go to USC, but if he's not there, I don't know. I don't even know what colleges to look at because I've been committed for so long. It's always been my dream school, so to see my dream get thrown away on me is crazy."

Baxter isn't completely discarding the possibility of still being a Trojan, and he admits his options may be limited by time and a lack of exposure to the recruiting process. Publicly committing to USC as a sophomore, he walked into the U.S. Army All-American team hotel in San Antonio (Texas) Friday night with his cardinal USC beanie turned inside out.

Distraught, Baxter had a difficult time imagining the prospects of playing for a school besides USC, and an even more difficult time imagining the prospects of playing for a head coach other than Carroll.

"I don't know any other coaches," said Baxter. "I've just been focused on one thing; and that's to get to USC, be a Trojan, and play for Pete Carroll. Having fun and winning a national championship has been my whole thing."

"Now that (Carroll) might leave it could just mess things up. I guess it's just the way things go sometimes."

Just as quickly as potential bad news spread, Baxter was suddenly hit with one of the greatest honors in his high school football career. At a ceremony at the San Antonio Convention Center, Baxter was presented with the Ken Hall Trophy, which is awarded to the National Player of the Year.

"The announcement happened so quickly," said Baxter. "We were all lined up on stage. Me, Seantrel (Henderson), Kyle (Prater), Ronald (Powell), Silas (Redd), Marcus (Lattimore) and Robert (Woods)." Baxter recalled. "We just all lined up and watched the highlights, and right after that, it just happened.

"My whole family is out here and saw it, so that was cool. It was something I've been working on for four years, and I finally got it.

"I guess I can really say I'm the best now."

The best player in the country approaches Saturday's Army All-American Bowl with a cloud of second thoughts hanging over his head.

"I'm real happy about winning the National Player of the Year, but everything that happened with USC and Pete Carroll is a disappointment to me." said Baxter.

"Coach Carroll was at my house (last month) telling me straight to my face, and my mom's face that he wasn't going anywhere.

"I can't do that much but wait, so we'll see."

USCFootball.com will continue to bring you the latest on this developing story throughout the weekend.

He was committed to Texas back in the late Spring/early Summer, but switched to BYU.

The 2009 season ended two days ago, which means it's time to look ahead to 2010. Thus, our early, early top 25 for next season (did we mention it'sreally early?).

This top 25 was put together on the assumption that underclassmen who haven't declared for the draft will stay in school. That's a dangerousassumption, of course, and we will revisit this early, early top 25 in about two weeks, when all the dust has settled in regard to the underclassmen.

Without further ado:

alabama_statslogo.gif

1. Alabama
BUZZ: The Tide will return numerous key offensive players off this season's title team, but coaches will need to replace seven defensive starters. Will there be a drop-off? And can the Tide make it two in a row?

ohiostate_statslogo.gif

2. Ohio State
BUZZ: The non-conference schedule isn't that daunting, and if coach Jim Tressel loosens the reins on the offense - as he did in the Rose Bowl - the Buckeyes should cruise to the Big Ten title. DE Cameron Heyward's decision to stay in school is an important one for Ohio State.

oregon_statslogo.gif

3. Oregon
BUZZ: QB Jeremiah Masoli and RB LaMichael James will return and they'll get to run behind a veteran line. The defense should be better, too.

boisestate_statslogo.gif

4. Boise State
BUZZ: The Broncos have key non-conference games against Oregon State and Virginia Tech. If they win both, they could return to Glendale, Ariz. - but this time for the national title game.

usc_statslogo.gif

5. USC
BUZZ: Coaching rumors aside, the Trojans will have the talent to get back on top in the Pac-10. A young defense this season will be an experienced defense next season.

tcu_statslogo.gif

6. TCU
BUZZ: The Frogs must replace standout DE Jerry Hughes, star LB Daryl Washington and CBs Rafael Priest and Nick Sanders, but TCU always finds a way to put together a quality defense. That TCU returns the vast majority of its 2009 offense suggests the Frogs could sail through the regular season unbeaten again

nebraska_statslogo.gif

7. Nebraska
BUZZ: Coach Bo Pelini has said he thinks the 2010 team will be better than the 2009 team. Given the state of the Big 12 next season, that means the Huskers easily could go into the season as the league favorite.

texas_statslogo.gif

8. Texas
BUZZ: Replacing Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley is going to be impossible. But the defense should be stout, and perhaps McCoy's departure will provide the impetus to establish a solid rushing attack.

wisconsin_statslogo.gif

9. Wisconsin
BUZZ: RB John Clay's decision to remain in school was a boost to the Badgers' Big Ten hopes in 2010. QB Scott Tolzien should be better, and the offensive line will be a team strength. The defense should be one of the best in the Big Ten.

florida_statslogo.gif

10. Florida
BUZZ: Urban Meyer's future remains up in the air. But even without Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Joe Haden and the other departing stars, the Gators have a ton of talent. And who in the SEC is going to challenge them?

virginiatech_statslogo.gif

11. Virginia Tech
BUZZ: The presence of RBs Ryan Williams and Darren Evans and QB Tyrod Taylor in the backfield should give the Hokies one of the nation's most fearsome rushing attacks. The loss of DE Jason Worilds from a defense that already had to fill plenty of holes is worrisome, but if the Hokies are unbeaten after knocking off Boise State on Oct. 2, they could jump into the national title picture.

oklahoma_statslogo.gif

12. Oklahoma
BUZZ: The Sooners suffered though Landry Jones learning on the job this season. They will benefit from that next season. Plus, the offensive line should be much improved.

pittsburgh_statslogo.gif

13. Pittsburgh
BUZZ: Dave Wannstedt and Pittsburgh was a win away from a BCS bid in 2009. RB Dion Lewis will be a candidate to be the fourth consecutive sophomore to win the Heisman. The Panthers need to replace some key players on defense - both tackles, a couple of veteran linebackers and CB Aaron Berry - but the Panthers should be the preseason favorite in the conference.

iowa_statslogo.gif

14. Iowa
BUZZ: The Hawkeyes should be fine everywhere - except perhaps the offensive line, where four starters have to be replaced. QB Ricky Stanzi must curb his penchant for throwing interceptions. The defense will be strong again, especially if CB Amari Spievey stays for his senior season.

georgiatech_statslogo.gif

15. Georgia Tech
BUZZ: The Yellow Jackets won the ACC title with only six scholarship seniors, but WR Demaryius Thomas likely won't be the only Georgia Tech underclassman to enter the draft. Paul Johnson faces a big hire as he attempts to replace fired defensive coordinator Dave Wommack because Georgia Tech won't make a serious run at the national title until it upgrades its defense.

lsu_statslogo.gif

16. LSU
BUZZ: The coaching staff will be under the gun next season. The offense has a lot of room for growth, especially the offensive line, which was the biggest problem this season.

northcarolina_statslogo.gif

17. North Carolina
BUZZ: When six junior starters announced that they planned to return, it assured that the Tar Heels would head into 2010 as a popular sleeper pick for a BCS run. UNC should boast one of the nation's top defenses next season, but the Tar Heels must make significant improvements to their dormant offense.

miami_statslogo.gif

18. Miami
BUZZ: The Hurricanes were seen as a potential preseason top-10 team until they closed 2009 with a poor performance in a Champs Sports Bowl loss to Wisconsin. Miami's chances of contending for an ACC title depend on whether Jacory Harris can reduce his interception total and the Hurricanes upgrade their offensive line.

connecticut_statslogo.gif

19. Connecticut
BUZZ: The Huskies finished 8-5 for the second consecutive season, but they were awfully close to a major breakthrough. None of the losses were by more than four points. If the Huskies can turn those close losses into narrow victories, as they did over the last month of the season, Connecticut could contend for the Big East title in 2010. The Huskies must replace leading receiver Marcus Easley, Big East sack leader Lindsey Witten and two starting defensive backs.

oregonstate_statslogo.gif

20. Oregon State
BUZZ: The Rodgers brothers will be back and the offense will be a good one as long as the Beavers can find a competent quarterback. The defense should be one of the best in the Pac-10, as the Beavers lose just one starter.

houston_statslogo.gif

21. Houston
BUZZ: QB Case Keenum and all his skill-position playmates will be back, which means averaging 50 points per game is a legit goal. But unless the defense makes massive improvement, scoring 50 points might be what it takes to win games.

utah_statslogo.gif

22. Utah
BUZZ: The return of QB Jordan Wynn and 1,000-yard rusher Eddie Wide should give Utah a potent offense. A challenging non-conference schedule includes a home game with Pittsburgh and a trip to Notre Dame, but Utah does have the benefit of playing TCU and BYU at home next season.

arkansas_statslogo.gif

23. Arkansas
BUZZ: Aside from Alabama, the SEC West looks to be wide-open. For the Hogs to take advantage, though, QB Ryan Mallett and the defense must improve.

pennstate_statslogo.gif

24. Penn State
BUZZ: Replacing QB Daryll Clark will be Job One in spring practice. RB Evan Royster's decision to stay in school is important, and there should be a nice receiving corps and an OK offensive line. The defense has some holes to fill, but it's hard to imagine Penn State having a mediocre defense.

cincinnati_statslogo.gif

25. Cincinnati
BUZZ: Butch Jones succeeded Brian Kelly at Central Michigan and won two MAC championships in three years. Could the same happen here? Jones inherits backup QB Zach Collaros, who is a dual-threat similar to the Chippewas' Dan LeFevour. The defense will have to rebuild again - Cincinnati loses six seniors, including FS Aaron Webster - but it can't be much worse than it was in 2009.

EzFlash, I could honestly care less about Dior. Dude is buns. But I see what you're saying about the bloodlines from Cass and King though.

And these USC fans seem to be in a bit of denial regarding some of their players. Of course USC's insider boards are gonna act like they're all stilllocked up for now...*shrugs*

and at the same time out side fans are just throwing there names at recruits when yall really have no shot.

Trust me on this one, if most of the coaches stick around, Bax will stay at SC. Like I said before he's upset that he's gotten no call from thecoaches. The rumor is the coaches are meeting w/ Carroll either later tonight or tomorrow. Once that happens, the coaches will start calling the recruits.

True.

I don't think I've been guilty of this myself though yet...

Baxter has taken an official to Ann Arbor and would start at RB day one at UM. Just sayin'.
