I think Laker nation is split. Some folks bring up the bench aspect and figure we don't need him. Some of us just see him a a glue guy that is VITAL to the team.

All I know is I want another parade. If Lamar wants one he comes back. If this organization wants one we find a way for him to come back.

Its simple.
Co-sign.

Who knows. He is going to do what he is going to do.

I don't see how Lamar is playing it smart to be honest with you. He can go to the heat and make less money for more years, or could make more money with the lakers for less years.

I don't know. I really really can't call it.
Agreed, this mathematically and basketball wise makes no sense, he'll get more money in a shorter period of time from the Lakers and will have an opportunity to win a championship EVERY year OR option #2, get less money over a longer period of time and more than likely not be a serious contender until he's at the very end of his contract. Seems like a no brainer, but this dude clearly doesn't have em all. All of these conflicting reports about what LA has offered him is strange as well, some are saying that we only did 3yrs/27 mil, others 3yrs/30 mil and 4yrs/36 mil. All I know is that 9 or 10 mil a year is greater than 7.2 which is what he would be getting from Miami.

Yes it does make sense. Its why he hasn't signed yet. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants a longer contract that pays him the mostpossible. Also it seems like the media is causing us a lot of stress because they keep reporting many different stories.

As negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and free agent Lamar Odom remain stagnant, other teams have been exploring the possibility of making Odom an offer.

Most notably the Miami HEAT reportedly have a full Mid-Level Exception offer available for five years, $34 million.

Various reports have the Lakers offer (currently taken off the table by owner Dr. Jerry Buss) at $27-30 million for three. Additionally, Odom was allegedly offered $36 million for four but it isn't clear if that fourth year was fully guaranteed.

For a player, a four-year deal with the final season on a team option is essentially equivalent to a three-year offer.

Some sources say Odom's agent Jeff Schwartz is demanding five years. Others say they would have jumped had the Lakers offered four guaranteed in the $36-40 million range.

It's typical this time of year to get inconsistent stories. Perhaps Schwartz did indeed balk at four from the Lakers . . . perhaps not.

It's important to note that Florida has no state taxes, which means Odom would be able to keep a higher percentage of his earnings.

With California state tax at about 10.3%, that might suggest a Miami contract at $34 million would be worth $3.5 million more to Lamar than an equivalent $34 million deal from LA.

Without considering technicalities like deductions, what's important to know is that players are taxed in the state where they play each game. If Odom signed with the Lakers, he would have eight tax free games a season (six in Texas and two in Florida).

If he joined the HEAT in the Eastern Conference, he would gain the benefit of 41 tax-free home games along with five on the road (three in Texas and two in Florida).

Well reportedly LA was offering him 36 mil which would essentially be the same exact thing he's getting from LA if the reports are true, maybe a 1or 1.5mil less than Miami cause of the tax free thing. This dude Lamar really is trying to hold out for essentially 1 million dollars?

Again, it seems to me that LO is waiting out the Lakers' best possible offer. He had to call Buss because he waited out a little too long.

LO comes off the bench but that doesn't mean he's only the sixth or seventh most important player on the team. Last year he was the fourth or thirdmost important player; he played starters minutes and a starter's role, just five minutes after the games started. That's why he's trying to get a$35 million-plus contract, and for good reason.

I think tomorrow is the day.

For better or worse I do respect Lamar.

I want him to be a laker but if it doesn't happen it just show how much of a business the NBA really is.

Stay home Lamar!

I doubt Kobe has Twitter ...

My thoughts exactly
Lamar Odom is still without a team
Another day has gone by and Lamar Odom remains a free agent without a team.

The Lakers lost interest and pulled their deal off the table when Odom and his agent didn't respond quickly enough to the offer.

Essentially, the Lakers offered Odom a guaranteed contract worth $30 million, depending on the length of the deal.

Odom prefers a five-year deal but appeared willing to accept the Lakers' offer if they had guaranteed all four years.

The Lakers' offer before it was removed was for four years at $9 million a season. But only three years of the deal were guaranteed.
The Lakers held the option for the fourth season and had guaranteed Odom $3 million if they decided to buy him out.

The Lakers also offered Odom a three-year deal that would have paid him $10 million a season.

Either way, at least in the Lakers' eyes, Odom would have been paid at least $30 million with the opportunity to earn more.

Lakers owner Jerry Buss withdrew his offer Tuesday because he was unhappy that Odom and his people waited so long to respond to the team's offer and because Odom spoke to Miami Heat President Pat Riley to discuss a deal. Buss is still upset.

Odom had conversations with the Heat about signing for the mid-level exception of $5.8 million.

The Heat would have given Odom a five-year deal for $34 million, and probably the opportunity to opt out after three seasons and become a free agent in 2012.

Calls to Odom from teammates Derek Fisher on Thursday and Kobe Bryant on Wednesday failed to settle the issues.

Odom and his representatives are expected to make a decision this week on his future.

If he is able to get Buss to re-open negotiations, Odom, who turns 30 on Nov. 6, may have to take less than the $9 million a season that was originally offered.

After the Utah Jazz matched the offer Portland gave Paul Millsap, the Trail Blazers have about $8 million to offer another player.

But it appears they don't have any interest in Odom, and he doesn't appear to have interest in Portland.

The Lakers could also risk losing Odom and getting nothing in return if he goes to another team.

What an idiot ! Dude had 4 years guaranteed at $9 million per season, with the 5th being a club option. The 5th year team option makes sense because what GM intheir right mind wants a declining 35 year forward .

Yes Odom is one of the MANY reasons why the Lakers won the championship but I still remember how many times I have cursed at my TV screen because of his bad decisions and poor play.. Nothings worse then when you KNOW a player isn't giving his best effort on the court.. Like I have said before I honestly would rather have a player with less "talent" and "versatility" then Odom if that guy left everything on the floor every night.. I won't lose any sleep if LO leaves and though I know the chances to repeat will be VERY difficult this year without him.. At least I know the players on the court are giving their all...
a simple "i just dont like odom" wouldnt be enough?

How about I do me and you do you.. You don't like it then don't read it.. IMO and this is a Laker forum right?

you just made the case why odom wouldnt want the 5th year to be a team option

odom wants the 5 year deal because him and his agent know just like us this will be his last chance to get a long term deal.

at the end of the day the heat deal is better Long term then any lakers offer so how is odom dumb like some of you are saying?

But you could also look at it like this,

If you take a 3 or 4 years deal with the same money you might have a shot at another contract if you play well.

I don't know. It doesn't matter. He will make his choice soon so hopefully he stays.
