Without having seen the other contenders, my vote is for Slumdog because this movie is so damn powerful.

People slept hard on Changeling.
Agreed. It dragged toward the end though.
And for those of you calling Button GREAT... You people need to watch more movies. Joint was good. But definitely not Best Picture worthy. Nominee, I'mokay with. Good movie... miles from being great.

Slumdog was very good as well, I wouldn't be surprised to see that win.
TDK was the most anticipated/exciting movie of the year but I'm not sure if it'll make the cut.
Wall-E was terrific, I think it should get serious consideration.
Seven Pounds was good, not sure if its quite deserving.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona should NOT be there, although I enjoyed it. Not Oscar caliber... I bet its because Spielburg directed it.
Doubt shouldn't be there either, although Streep deserves an award for her performance.
I haven't seen the others yet so I can't speak on them however I'm really disgusted that a Ben Kingsley film didn't make it there (Elegy, The Wackness or Transiberriean)
- Slumdog Millionaire (*)
- Revolutionary Road (*)
- Wall-E
- Doubt
- Gran Torino
- Man on Wire
- The Reader (*)
- Changeling
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (*)
- Mamma Mia
- Rachel Getting Married
- Vicky Cristina Barcelona
- The Dark Knight
- The Wrestler
- Milk
- Seven Pounds
- Frost/Nixon (*)
- Iron Man
Cuts the list a little shorter. Wall E won't get nominated because it is an animated film. Mamma Mia won't get nominated because it is amusical, I know musicals have been nominated in the past, but this one won't since the field is too strong. I haven't heard too many good things aboutSeven Pounds. You guys must really like Will Smith, from friends and reviews, this film is getting very little love. I wish the Dark Knight and/or Iron Manwould get a nod, since I thought they were really good. However, I doubt the Academy gives them a nomination. Maybe a "Supporting Actor" nominationfor Heath Ledger.
Frost/Nixon, Milk, Benjamin Button, Gran Torino, Slumdog Millionaires and Revolutionary Road are getting a lot of pub in entertainment publications. My darkhorse, Changeling.
I saw Benjamin Button tonight, and I thought it was great. Trying to see the other notables before the Oscars.

The 5 nominees will be announced on Jan 22nd, and the Oscars will be on Feb 22nd. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences mailed 5,810 official Oscar nominations ballots to voting members last week.
I'm leaning towards Slumdog Millionaire...although I think Wall-E is a serious underdog/darkhorse...what do you guys think?
By far, the best performance of the movie.Originally Posted by AirAnt23
