Michael Phelps reacts after not placing in the men's 400 individual medley

My dude Phelps judging by this picture, his performances thus far in the olympics and other meets since 08', his heavily talked about dieting, appears to really try and get by off of his natural talent and this time around isn't taking his craft as serious as he should. (Or as he did in 08.)

He's far heavier than I've ever seen him.

He looks a lot heavier than he used to be. I think the last games and all the hype just really drained him.....and also the weed situation

NBC is actually covering a lot of events live across their family of networks.  The women's volleyball and men's beach volleyball that just finished on NBC was live.  Same with cycling, women's hoops and some of the swimming heats from earlier today.  They're going to be tape delaying things like the swimming finals and gymnastics for prime time.

^Good schedule to keep up with what's live and when.

Can't wait for beach volleyball. Misty, Kerry, and the Brasilian team :smokin.

Glad I was up early this morning and saw the men's road race. I don't usually like cycling but it was entertaining. The crash and the finish were dramatic.

Fencing was great today and so was the women's indoor volleyball. It was like Kim from Korea versus the whole US team. She was balling.

If Lebron and Dwight quit basketball and trained for the next 4 years at beach volleyball would they win gold in 2016?

No because Dwight would change his mind and go back to basketball hours before the opening ceremony.

Phelps didn't even finish top 3?

This is for you Michael...

The lack of care has robbed you of your strength! Victory has defeated you!

This TV coverage is a bit OD in a scattered sense. You almost cannot even get online in any instance if you want to see most of these prime time events. NBC really messed up here.

Without any real sense of organization and all of the tape delays etc.. I feel inclined to waste almost NONE of my time watching anything.

Luckily I could stream what I want live. But it's nothing like true HD on a big screen in front of a couch... We've come a ways yet still struggle in some ways

The response to NBC's coverage or lack thereof of the Olympics so far has been critical. I was talking to someone who works in media and they said that NBC had four years to get it right and they didn't. They could have and need to by modernizing their TV model surrounding sports by following what ESPN/CBS has done. We all understand the importance of primetime and the revenue opportunities, but all NBC did was manage to anger people by forcing US viewers to stream online. Its not that hard to breakaway momentarily to the event. Data, ratings and traffic online is not the same as that of television especially during primetime.

My thoughts EXACTLY :(

This is why I was hoping ESPN would get the Olympic broadcasting rights. You know as soon as they got it, they'd start prepping ESPN3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, and just show everything on TV. NBC isn't a sports network, so they have to protect their precious daytime programming and do nightly recaps for the idiots who like to watch neatly packaged, commercial-heavy sports programming.

How are you guys saying this stuff isn't live? Between CNBC, MSNBC, & NBC, I've seen women's hoops, swimming heats, cycling, boxing, and they were all at the times my app said they would be at.

Like the women's hoops game; my app said it would be at 10:45 my time (Central), and it was.

How was that not live?

Although you could have viewed it online (which shouldn't be necessary), the Lochte race will not be live. Its running on a tape delay just like the Opening Ceremony. The highly anticipated events like the Men's 100M are going to be on delay during primetime to capitalize on advertising dollars.

The fact they can't put the men's 400 IM final on an actual television channel on a Saturday afternoon is inexcusable. And because it's a popular event, featuring two of the top American athletes, the online stream crashed for a lot of people. And there's no way to watch a replay until after they show it on NBC

^
Well, some of the swimming finals are over already and NBC didn't even air the footage yet. I was looking forward to the seeing who would win but i've already been spoiled by pictures and scrolling results on espn.

The BBC has been pretty good so far. On the main channel they show important parts of basically everything then on BBC3 they show live coverage of big things and then there are about 4 interactive channels where you can choose more sports or highlights.

That's not counting the website where they claim they are streaming every event. I'll have to try that tomorrow as I'm not sure where the US basketball will be.

Women's Beach Volleyball coming up. I am happy now 8).

What the hell is up with the uniform changes? >:

:lol I think it's optional because of the weather. Some of the players didn't have the long sleeve suits in the afternoon.

dude has bulked up.. you can see he has improved in the sprint events

but he's not as good as he once was in the middle distance stuff.. hence, why lochte is beating him in certain races.. but you can see he's improving in the 100s (fly and free).. but it's hurting him in the 400 IM especially and some 200s.. which is basically the equivalent of the 800 or 1500 of track
