2012 Summer Olympics Thread: London July 27 - August 12

I had to quote this for emphasis.
From the outside looking in, Phelps really has nothing more to prove.
He may just be burnt out from swimming. *shrug*

It does.. My time in the Navy has made me never want to step foot in water again. He said he's been swimming everyday for 6 hours since the 90's. That's mind blowing. I can understand why he's not as hungry as he has been. I still think he'll get at least one more gold though.

He shouldn't even consider competing in the next Olympics. He'll be totally burned out by then and not win much. Everyone's trying to pressure him to compete in Brasil :{. Just go there as a spectator and enjoy everything.

And the U.S. finally wins. 4x200 relay, Michael Phelps has the record!

great handball match between Denmark and Spain. hit the game winner with 3 seconds left. i'm completely sold on this sport

He's said numerous times he's retiring after this one.

i think he can come back.. he'll have motivation after hearing everyone talk spit.. he can take 2 years off.. i mean dude still will only be 31 next time around

and cut down his events.. i would pick 2 individual events.. 100 fly and either the 200 fly or 200 free (hell maybe even the 100 free).. actually that might be the best idea, go for the 100 fly and 100 free.. that way he can get out of the pool more and work on strenth work in the gym and dry land stuff

then he can swim the 3 relays again.. so that gives him a chance for 5 medals

Phelps easily fastest American split on the relay. 1:44.05. Finished that one like a champion.

YESS!!! Phelps and Co with the gold!

Do the guys who swam in the semi's of the 4x200 relay get a gold too for helping them get to the finals?

how many more events is he swimming in?
3: 100 fly, 200 IM and 4 x 100 medley relay

If Michael Phelps was a country, he'd be 55th on the all-time medal count.

relays are pretty easy, in a way, cuz it's collaborative. but if u are talking individuals, then i think phelps should go w/ his strongest. isn't his strongest the fly and fress style?

isn't natalie coughlin like 40+ ? im sure phelps can compete at 31, but it'll be a mental game, not a physical one. he has to keep himself in top shape, and thats the hard part.
