That makes him even greater in my opinion. Being able to dominate various different events is no easy task and he's been doing it continuously since he was 18.

The media just likes to sensationalize their topics so its easier for them to make mass generalizations.
Phelps is the greatest pro swimmer of all time, no doubt.
But greatest olympian? What does that even MEAN? You can only win one gold in Table Tennis. You can win several in swimming. Its not even a direct comparison.
But on another note, I think title defenses are far more impressive.
