He won't entertain that P, and you don't think so realistically either it appears. I know the opportunity cost of something that's unknown like those picks, but saner heads need to prevail. Saying what happened with Dwight will happen again is cynical and points away from why he actually left.

It has nothing to do with Dwight, it was just one single example.

You don't trade away everything you have, for 1 player, and expect that to work out. Because it won't. Period.

If the Lakers actually had control of their picks, then I would be all for this move. Or at least mildly understand and defend it.

But they don't.

That's not everything you have when you have Durant, it's everything you have right now at this moment because you have nothing at the moment. The signing him portion of this is a point-of-view I only really can entertain if it's realistic, and it's doesn't seem to be if we/you guys want to actually get the reasons out on the table for why he would sign there.

It's a fortunate position to be in not to have much time at the top of the draft, but I mean this: It's not just Kahn, it's a lot of GMs: multiple great picks means nothing until it means anything. Hasheem Thabeet, Derrick Williams, Dion Waiters, Thomas Robinson, Tyreke Evans, O.J. Mayo. Aside from everything Kahn did, GM after GM shows how hard it is to hit even when you have the entire pool to choose from. And aside from the Thabeets and the Reke's you have the guys who are decent to good, who won't even be as good as what Durant will be in 2016, 2017 and beyond as you guys are watching him back in his from.

I'm not sure what you think we have here, but trading away this top 5 pick, the Houston pick, when we don't even have a 2016 pick, or likely our 2017 pick either, what the **** do you want to use around Durant dude?

37 year old Kobe
Randle
Clarkson
Durant

Then what? Then you factor in that Durant hits age 28 when Kobe leaves, you have no future picks to use for the immediate future, outside of a second rounder you might buy, or maybe a late first

So you do what, exactly? Get to the 8 seed? The guy has ******* Russ and Ibaka and we wouldn't come close to that, so what is the plan? Just pay him money to fall short year after year like Melo??

kobe said it himself, he doesnt regret sigining the contract, he wsdnt bought wining, his sales pitch failed, jacking shots from the moon and saying how mgmt did day best. so yeah, nothing wtong bout being paid to not win.

Kevin Durant and Julius Randle as your 1-2 until 2019 is fine, and when Kobe's off the books NOW people will sign with you. The other pieces will fall into place. Your draft picks in 2016/17 that you don't have would be in the 20s anyway as an effect of what happened from Durant and Randle.

Don't forget that many were saying post-draft and even before that Julius Randle could end up being the best pro in that draft.

Don't forget that many were scared of Nerlens Noel because of career-long injury concerns.

Know what I mean?

We don't know (yet) if Randle will make it.

And sorry, but Durant + Randle isn't better than Durant/Russ/Ibaka.

If Randle turns out nice, great, I think he will be ok, but two best guys, both with foot/leg issues, yeah what could go wrong? :lol

I don't think Durant's can be referred to issues yet at all, despite what Bill Simmons and others have said. When that argument's brought up, it stands on the legs of others' injuries. I just don't buy that as a legitimate basis, and think we'll be looking back at this conversation again when Kevin Durant is at the top of the league again in a year from now.

For that reason, Durant + Randle is better than Randle + Unknown + Unknown. The opportunity cost of unknowns is great, but only when not being compared against the likes of a 26-year-old superstar who is being labeled something because of Greg Oden and Dwight Howard and chronic injuries of others. Things happen, but they don't happen because of what happened to others.

This debate completely depends on what you get with those two 'Unknown' picks I referred to above and you guys have referred to, but I like Randle a hell of a lot better as my No. 2 behind my No. 1 Durant -- so he can organically blossom into the best player he can become -- than have Randle as my No. 1 and have no idea what I'm getting in the other two.

It could be a star, and it could be Tyrus Thomas. Who the **** knows, and I prefer the "who the **** knows" with Durant over that.

Let's gauge this in a year.

You can't bank on potential forever. Picks are GREAT for leverage. Picks are GREAT for keeping and developing. Picks are GREAT for solving every known problem in the world. Picks, picks, picks are the answer to everything.

Except they're not.

At some points, it's ok to go with the known value.

I find it odd, given your franchise just sold Kevin Love for picks, but you're tellin us to sell picks for Kevin Durant. :lol

And Ska, you're over simplifying.

Stack picks, when you have NOTHING. We have, nothing right now. (Clarkson/Randle hopefully a start. )

When you have Kobe, LO, Bynum, Ariza, THEN you sell picks for Pau.

If we didn't have Bynum or LO, or Ariza, and trade for Pau, we don't win. We're good, sure, but not champs.

You don't go all in with what few assets you have, to then give 40% of your cap to 1 guy who also has a foot injury that's wrecked an entire year. It's bad business.

Makes sense.

Except for the part where you have to actually get LO in order to have LO.

Getting someone when you have nothing is fine.

A + B + C + D = ABCD

If D comes when we have nothing, and we draft A + C, then maybe the final piece comes out of order, so it's DACB.

And DACB = ABCD

There's still more than one way to skin a cat.
