You also left out three first round picks we gave for Pau, plus Marc, plus 10 mil in cap space.

It wasn't Kwame and a 2nd rounder.

Lakers' Julius Randle is getting in shape for summer-league basketball

The arena had barely started to fill up in Minnesota, but Julius Randle provided a status update with one little basketball movement.

He grabbed a rebound from his missed shot, planted with his back to the basket and jumped up for a reverse dunk.

It was an individual pregame workout an hour before the Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, but it was something Lakers fans could appreciate.

The rookie from Kentucky played only 14 minutes before suffering a broken leg in the season opener. He also has undergone foot surgery for a separate injury from a few years ago and is stepping up his physical regimen to be ready for the Lakers' summer-league basketball team in July.

It's hard to tell how the seventh pick in last year's draft will fare in the NBA. He's a bit undersized for his position — 6-feet-7¾ in bare feet — and has only started working on his outside shot in a league trending toward stretch power forwards. He took dozens of three-point attempts Wednesday and said afterward it felt "a lot more comfortable than it was" before the broken leg.

Randle has started tagging along with the team on road trips, including the Lakers' next game Friday in Toronto, and his aptitude curve appears high.

"Learning a lot about the dedication it takes," he said in an interview while still sweating from his workout. "You're traveling a lot and it's hard on the body — getting less sleep, back-to-backs, traveling three nights in a row. I've definitely not had any setbacks, so I'm just making sure I'm being cautious and really taking care of my body."

With the Lakers (19-51) lurching toward their worst season ever, this could have been Randle's time to shine. Veteran big men Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill will sit at least four games so the Lakers can evaluate younger players, a move that certainly won't hurt the chances of keeping their top-five-protected pick in this year's draft.

Lakers Coach Byron Scott recently said this was "kind of a wasted year" for Randle, knowing there would be tons of playing time available, plenty of chances to see what worked and what didn't at the NBA level. It's helped dramatically for rookie Jordan Clarkson, who took over starting point-guard duties two months ago.

There's no chance Randle will play this season, and he has not been cleared for full contact, but he's anticipating some sort of competition in July, even if it will be NBA rookies-in-waiting and other young players.

"Hopefully my body's feeling right, my leg's 100% and I'm able to work myself back into shape," he said. "That's definitely the biggest thing, getting that strength back in my leg so I can really explode off of it."

Until then, he has been working on his jump shooting, his footwork in the post and, of great importance to him, maintained a strict diet centered on grass-fed meats.

"I'm actually at a lesser weight now than I was at the beginning of the season ... and I'm dropping weight as I'm working out," he said. "We're 19- and 20-year-old kids, so we have a stigma about us that we can eat whatever we want. You've got to do what's best for your body. That's something I learned this year."

Since I havent's weighed in... Say our 1st for Kevin Durant? I'd probably say yes.

Would have about $10mil in cap space, with 8 guys.

Durant, Randle, Swaggy, Clarkson (QO), Kelly (QO) and $52mil left in cap space in 2016.

Irrelevant any way, they are not going to trade Kevin Durant.

I posed the question regarding KD because they were talking about it on SportsNation.  They mentioned how they traded Harden the year before his free agency so they could at least get something for him instead of letting him walk and I thought - if the Thunder love draft picks then this is might happen.

No I do get why one would think.

I feel like he's just one of those guys who you just let test FA and let him go if he's going to go and take the egg in the face. Trading him early is years of setback, especially if you have a good chance of keeping him.

You trade KD, you lost Russ too. KD just leaves, maybe Russ stays because it will be his team and OKC didn't just give up, you wanted to keep the team together and go for a title. But KD turns his back.

And what's the actual likelihood KD leaves, I just don't see it as too big a possibility

Trade KD you're messing around with Serge Ibaka as your star player and you're paying like $25 mil for that because youre forced to overpay to keep somebody :lol

RUMOR: Tobias Harris 'attainable' for the Lakers in upcoming free agency?

Mmmmmmm

Towns
Randle
Harris
Kobe
Clarkson

Davis/Sacre
Black/Kelly
Nick
Ellington
Houston pick?

Ride out that year of Kobe, and then open the vault.

He's probably around max though..... But he's really a guy I'd like considering Butler, DeAndre, Kawhi Gasol are all no's for different reasons.

My thinking is basically on need at positions.

If we pull Towns, it's easy, slot Harris.

If we get Russell, still works, Russell, Kobe, Harris, Randle is a start, maybe Davis at the 5, Clarkson slides to the bench with Nick, etc etc.

If we get 5th, and we aren't sure Stanley Johnson is enough, maybe take Willie Cauley Stein, and plug Harris in.

The max is what I'm hopin he doesn't try to land. Hopin he just wants in with LA, and still have some youth with him. Cuz honestly, if Orlando gets a nice 4-5 piece, with Vucevic, Oladipo, and Gordon on board already, plus Payton, I'd stay there if I was him. That core is right behind Utah in terms of the light coming on. In fact, in the draft thread, we talked about WCS bein the Orlando pick at 5, holy **** that would be fun. They could pour money into their bench, and be loads of fun.

There's certainly how much Magic match, so there's a threshold you have to cross.

4th pick, 25th pick, 34th, 53rd... All our guys, and Tobias max is $7mil in cap. Cut Sacre. re-sign Ed Davis for $7.5mil over 3-4 years.

Then $47mil in cap in 2016.

I think the Magic thinking will be if they get pick 5... And draft Johnson or WCS. If Tobias is here, "what are we?" Still a lottery team, so maybe they just decide to move on.

things just fly over my head

I pray we don't land 5th in the draft... That Stanley Johnson versus Willie Cauley-Stein is such a hard debate.

Do you take the guy who will automatically be a strong defensive player? Or the guy who needs to develop?

You can argue that Stanley has the potential to be a 2 way player, but WCS is a guy who has defense that fits with Randle.

Looks good so far today...
I don't buy the "can't shoot/cant finish/can't change direction" bs.

Love him at 5.
