Domestic abuse, elitist/overprivileged 'heir', the saddest 'parent death' since Bambi; solid kids movie. Solid.
Caaaaaaaalm down. Jokes, man. Just jokes.

I mean CP in a perfect world what do you want? And is what you want something that actually makes sense?

Bear in mind Kobe is a Laker and will be a Laker for two more years. And his salary isn't going away until his contract is up.

What do you want?

It's too late for perfect world. I don't want Kobe on the Lakers for 48.5 million dollars. The end.

If he took less money, I would have no problem having him on the roster for 2 more years.

So what I want, is to correct his failure of a contract, by getting younger, cheaper, assets in hand, by keeping our top 5 protected lottery pick.

Just because Mitch, Jim and Jeanie are ******* idiots and pay for past performance, means I have to agree with it in any way shape or form. I want to pay for FUTURE performance, and Kobe is in no way worth 48 million, ON THE COURT, the next two years.

If a bird in the hand is really worth two in the bush....

Yes to melo.

This is like going to the club and making eye contact with that big booty chick but instead of sliding up to her you hesitate because you're waiting for that perfect opportunity. ...except it never happens and you go home to grab the lotion and tank yourself to sleep. Melo is not a perfect 10 but a core of melo/randle should have championship potential.

The Lakers are trying to fight the world. Mitch and his “we don’t build thru the draft”

*looks to see how the Lakers landed Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Byron Scott, AC Green, Kobe Bryant…..*

Other teams get discounts from their franchise players, guys that had played just as long as Kobe with his team, and are just as much the face of their franchises, while the Lakers say naw, we’re going to overspend for our guy, cuz that will attract players later on down the line. Pretty sure the Spurs aren’t hurting for talent right now, guys looked like they really enjoyed getting onto that roster.

Meanwhile, so far this year, Meeks, Farmar, Kaman, and Bazemore fled the Lakers like the rats on the Titanic. But hey, we take care of our own…….

The CBA was damn near designed to prevent teams like us, and the Knicks from outspending the other teams in the league. It has limitations, penalties, up the wazoo, just to try and level the playing field. Which means what? We, as an organization have to adjust. We have to do our jobs better, to account for those limitations.

First response to that was trading for CP3, which the league blocked. Reaction to that was trade away a ton of assets for a 38 year old. Then give that man 30 million dollars.
Next they traded away more assets for Dwight, thinking that they, being the Lakers, would be enough to keep him in house, even without a contract beyond the next year. Dwight, of course, walked.
Reaction to that. Give Kobe a horrible extension. For some imaginary reason.
They chose Mike Brown after Phil, then fired MB, then chose MDA over Phil, then let MDA go. Now they are looking at ????? Byron Scott I suppose. :{
Next response needed was the fact our franchise was going nowhere, injuries mounting, heading towards the trade deadline, a chance to completely strip the roster to bare bones, tank like a mother, and get the best pick they could possibly get. Response, they traded Steve Blake, and let the asset they got for Blake (Bazemore) go. :{
Instead of a top 3-4-5 pick, they got 7. Because they wanted to win 2 extra regular season games, in a lost season.

Now, after all that horribleness post CP3 deal, they want to throw 97 million dollars, at a 30 year old player for 4 years. A guy that already has 11 NBA seasons under his belt, a college season, multiple Olympic trips, countless practices and preseason games, and somewhere around 31-32,000 minutes already in his career.

Old Nash
Back surgery Dwight, who walked
Old contract to Kobe
No sell off to enhance pick
Byron Scott
Now pay 97 million for Carmelo.

The league has changed the way it does business, the Lakers are trying to do things the way they did 20-30-40 years ago.

Look ahead. What comes next?

Melo turns 34, his contract is up, what do the Lakers do then? Reward their guys, right? So what, we give a 34 year old Carmelo 3 years and 70 million? 2 years and 55 million? I mean, where does the cycle end?

Why didn’t they just pay Shaq then when he wanted his extension at 31? 31, a year older than Melo right now, but the Lakers traded him away, cuz they felt he wasn’t worth the extension, his best days were behind him. But Melo, at 30, is worth it. And even more than what Shaq was asking for. :{

^ How much of both of their game have you seen with your own eyes, truthfully?

Melo - a lot of games. Randle his highschool highlights, and most of his March Madness run.

But what does your question even mean? I like Randle but he hasn't even played in the NBA yet(hopefully he becomes a beast). At least let the man play first and then talk about 'championship potential'.

Without reading any of that post I'm going to guess it covered the following 3 subjects:

Tanking
Kobe's contract
Salary cap

Nobody knows what kobe will look like coming back and I believe very few in this thread really watch melo and randle play. Fair but not enough to instantly dismiss as if it's a team of pierce kg and Anthony bennett.

You're right, I shouldn't be so quick to assume. But that's the case with any scenario.

I rather be bad, save money, get that pick back, have 2 assets making low dollars and wait out the final year of Kobe’s contract

Than put the team right back on the line behind another God damn 30 year old making 97 million dollars the next 4 years. “Hoping it works out”

My plan, hope for 2 young kids earning 7 million dollars to attract others, and hope it works out.
Your plan, pay 2 over 30 somethings a total of 145 million in a 4 year span, and hope it works out.

The difference is, if things get wishy washy somewhere, my 2 kids and 7 mil can buy up assets. Like a James Harden type deal comes up.
Your 145 million dollar duo can not buy up the same assets because they would be more limited in their movements.

Either way, it’s hoping it works out no matter the route chosen. My way, we have more moves available to us. Trades, Sign and Trades, other free agent possibilities, etc. Rest the tax penalty, repeater tax, things like that.

You’re “hoping it works out” with Melo and Kobe, just as much as I am with Randle and getting a 2015 Top 5 pick. My way is just 140 million dollars cheaper is all.
