@Chris_Broussard: League Sources: LeBron James's meeting with the Heat will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) in Las Vegas. There was no meeting today.

Also heard he had a meeting with Nike today....

I think we will know if we get any of the big fish by the end of the week.

Let the discussion continue.

LOL cats needa get back to their regular lives...

super over-reaching and hyper analyzing going on in here....

relax and let the chips fall where they may, discuss after.

I would be totally on board with CP's plan if it didn't hinge on a "young top 5 pick" that we don't even ******* have :lol

We could absolutely blow this year, but it's still doubtful we will be as bad as last year in which we only got the 7th pick. Blowing *** this year literally does nothing for us because we don't even own our damn pick.

If we did, sure, go ahead and throw the season like we did this past year. But we would be banking on a whole different level of suck and a whole lot of luck to even get that top 5 pick. I just can't be down with that.

I think what we all really want to say is, our situation absolutely, flat out, STINKS. We are sort of stuck either way.

Based on what John Ireland said, if Melo chose the Lakers, it would be because of branding and fame. Not a chance to win.

The Lakers don't even sound like they think Melo would make them a winner. He would just be another big name they can give a TWC show to.

Sounds like neither sides have their priorities straight. But who knows, maybe there was more to it than what Ireland heard.
That's only one small aspect of it. I'm going to stick by that assumption and am comfortable with that.

Why would they leak or tell Ireland of all people parts of the presentation regarding their future basketball plans with Melo as a Laker. They're not going to reveal what their plan is. No team would do that.

Seems more likely the only tidbit of info people would get would be regarding the business aspect of joining the Lakers.

On a side note, this guy Ireland is so annoying. His post game questions are cringe worthy.....

Ireland sucks. It's amazing how much he's around the Lakers (and NBA altogether) and still lacks any awareness. He always seems to piggy back off what Simmons has to say.

You know I was asked the Melo question earlier today by a friend and this was my response

"I don't care at this point. The product is so bad right now that at least it will be entertaining to watch. As it stands right now I'm not really even interested in watching the product. That's not to say I'm not going to watch (because I am) but there's no level of excitement. I'm not expecting a championship. I'm not even expecting a playoff series win of Melo comes. But it's better than expecting to be a bottom 5 team and not even being able to accomplish that when the pieces were in place 17 games into the season. "

Tldr; put me down for IDC

That's how the 90's was after Magic got HIV in 91 and retired.

No superstars on the team until Shaq & Kobe came in 96.

From 91-96 Lakers had a high draft pick in Eddie Jones who turned out to be an allstar a couple exciting young talent with guy like Nick Van Exel, Anthony Peeler, and some veterans who could score a lot like Cedric Ceballos. Those 90's Laker teams were still fun to watch even though you knew they had no shot at a championship/

In a way I view Melo as sort of a modern day Cedric Ceballos.

So yeah for me I have to say IDC to getting Melo now if he decides to come here now. The Lakers need a superstar here in his prime for the next 4 years that will be able to bring people in to watch games at Staples and a player like Melo who in the future can attract other superstars in the future to join him especially after Kobe is retired.

I'm not talking about a specific plan. From what it sounds like, the Lakers barely touched on anything basketball-related, even in a general sense. At least based on what's been said.

If neither side is focused on basketball in the meeting, that's kinda disappointing.

But I just remembered him and Kobe were supposed to meet on their own, so I guess you can count that if they ever did.

There was. They also brought up the fact that it would be his team after this Kobe's contract and that he isn't going to win anything in NY this year or next year. They promised to make a run at the big free agents in 2016 with Kobe's contract coming off the books. This is what I heard on the program also.

Cool, thanks for the clarification.

I'd still question Melo if those reasons swayed him to join the Lakers though.

I think Melo wanting fame is BS. He just doesn't seem like the type to care about all that.

Not about Melo's thirst for fame, more about Lala.

He can be the star on the court, she can be the star off the court. Which she clearly wants. Pretty much the only team that can offer that.

I hope that wasn't their whole pitch but it is compelling.

Can't stand corny John Ireland
I hate Ireland. We should have paid Spero Dedes.
Can't believe yall don't like Ireland.

I like Ireland

I don't really get the hate on Ireland. But I might be attached because he was the sideline reporter when I first moved to SoCal and got to watch all the games.

If we're gonna complain, I gotta throw Billy Mac's name out there. Again. He needs to be replaced long before Ireland :lol

wat ireland said makes sense. kobes deal was to appeal fans, and melo would add to it. as long fans fill up seats and these moves net a positive for the Buss‘s norhing else matters

Can we sign lance for 10 per year, Isaiah for 7 per year, Monroe for 12 a year. That adds up to 29 plus Kobe contract and if you stretch Nash that's like 55ish between all those new pieces and kobe. Is that even possible?
