- Producer Joel Silver prepared a 4-minute trailer about what it would be like to be the face of the Lakers, narrated by Tobey Maguire.
- At the end, Silver said "it may be better for you to go be a basketball player in another city. But in LA, if you're the face of the Lakers, your family will be better off. Your wife will have more opportunities. You can be a power couple."
- The Time Warner execs said they have 24 hours to fill with Laker programming. Melo and Lala can basically come up with their own idea for a show.
- His life after basketball would be amazing - they pointed to KAJ, Kobe, Shaq, Magic, and how they are all famous and influential.

Saw this on Reddit - John Ireland gives some info about the Lakers' pitch to Melo (around the 15 minute point)
They are 24, and can improve. Melo is 30, and is what he is.
Bledsoe, IT, Monroe, Lance don't cost 97 million either. No contradiction at all.
And I already said I wouldn't overpay IT, just that he can be had, cheaper, with other pieces as well.

Can improve...
Can be had cheaper....
And you know this because?
But we "take care of our own....."

That was Dr. Buss....Dr. Buss wasn't going to take Shaq's mess. Player screaming pay me in front of a camera....
You can't get Monroe or Bledsoe. The chances are so unlikely. I don't see Monroe or Thomas getting better defensively. Thomas is a bench player. A great one though. Thomas will command lowest 6 and highest 8-9. Is that worth it?They are 24, and can improve. Melo is 30, and is what he is.

I rather be bad, save money, get that pick back, have 2 assets making low dollars and wait out the final year of Kobe’s contract
Than put the team right back on the line behind another God damn 30 year old making 97 million dollars the next 4 years. “Hoping it works out”
My plan, hope for 2 young kids earning 7 million dollars to attract others, and hope it works out.
Your plan, pay 2 over 30 somethings a total of 145 million in a 4 year span, and hope it works out.
The difference is, if things get wishy washy somewhere, my 2 kids and 7 mil can buy up assets. Like a James Harden type deal comes up.
Your 145 million dollar duo can not buy up the same assets because they would be more limited in their movements.
Either way, it’s hoping it works out no matter the route chosen. My way, we have more moves available to us. Trades, Sign and Trades, other free agent possibilities, etc. Rest the tax penalty, repeater tax, things like that.
You’re “hoping it works out” with Melo and Kobe, just as much as I am with Randle and getting a 2015 Top 5 pick. My way is just 140 million dollars cheaper is all.

Lance is 23 sure, but he's been having issues since high school. I'm from NYC, and he just doesn't have his head on straight. Is that a player you commit to for multiple years. He's had issues in high school. college, drafted low because of his character, and now issues in the NBA. Worth a risk I would say so, but his character problems have to be questioned. Would he work once he gets that big contract and comes to a place like LA. Also, in the playoffs there were many games where he was a disappearing act. I don't see the consistency in him, but as you say he's young and the potential to be a third option is there. He reminds me of LO though, he'll always be at that point of can he get better, but it never happens.
Of the four listed, Lance and Thomas are the only ones we could get. At least for me I'd rather have Melo than both those guys.
Why didn’t they just pay Shaq then when he wanted his extension at 31?
You guys keep coming up with excuses.
31 year old with 3 titles and 4 Finals appearances in 5 years screams pay me. (less than 97 million)
30 year old with no titles, no Finals, quietly asks for 97 million.
And LA is BEGGING for Melo, but traded the other guy.

You are 100% right. It is 145 million dollars cheaper....
But you don't have a franchise to run...you don't have an area to fill, you don't have a fan base that doesn't want a repeat of last year.
CP I want you to understand that I actually agree with you. I wouldn't mind the Lakers rebuilding.
I just know they won't. Mitch and Jim know if they can put Melo and Kobe together on this team they will make money and have a shot at a championship. May not be this year or next but playoff runs = Money and at the end of the day that's what's it's about to them. They own the Lakers to make money...
Your plan keeps folks away from staples. (some not all, I'm still going because it will be cheaper for me and the fam). Your plan keeps ratings low. Your plan doesn't make business sense in their eyes. Just me and how I see it.

Excuse?....I'm just telling you what happend and whats happening...
And it would have been more then 97 mil....you and I both know that! LOL
Don't get me wrong what you say makes sense to me, don't want to see like I'm coming at you. Both sides make sense to me, it just doesn't seem viable for the Laker organization to go through years of sucking, especially after the death of Dr. Buss. Causation does not imply correlation, but people don't get that and they'll all point at Jim Buss. Teams suck at times, but the media, the fans, etc, don't understand that when it comes to the Lakers. The Lakers don't make the playoffs one year and all hell breaks loose. It would be more difficult to get Monroe or Bledsoe, but you don't know for sure they would get matched. And I already said, I could care less about Thomas, if he gets signed, fine, but I don't need or want him. If he took 5, I'd be ok, but I understand he has limitations. But if he came, with Lance, and say Monroe, all 3, Detroit doesn't match, Sac doesn't match, etc, and we could put those 3 with Randle for the next few years, and have them post Kobe, and still money to operate, I prefer that to Melo.
I prefer signing no one at all, tanking to keep our pick, but if that's out, then I would rather have the 3 cheaper options (or two if that's all I can get) than the expensive waste of space that Melo would be.
Not to mention the people that cried all year long about defense and are now clamoring for Carmelo like that's going to help.
