Those were the days. :hat

Have your 1300th rep.

I did not know MDA was the 3rd best coach in all of basketball anywhere. Why did we let him go?

He's gone. You got what you wanted.

No reason to keep going with it.

No, he should keep going with it. Because when the Lakers hire the next dumb ****, he's going to regret pissing all over D'Antoni and demanding an "upgrade"

Let him get his shots in while he can.

nah next year we will suddenly have idiot players that dont respond to good coaching

I'm just saying 15+ coaches and NONE are an upgrade? :lol

Ollie is grossly underpaid at Uconn right now. He could use is as leverage to get a raise.

Ollie and Fisher wouldn't be "upgrades" but they would be younger candidates, that played in the league, and might have some pull with these younger players.

The rest of these **** tards that are being mentioned, none are better than D'Antoni. Unless you can pull Carlisle or Pop (and if you want to argue about Doc and Thibs) the rest are pointless.

If Doc Rivers coaches this year's Lakers, and D'Antoni coached this year's Clippers, everything you say about Mike you would put on Doc. You people demanding excellence out of Mike with a bull **** roster is just stupid. It's like bein mad at Kobe for not winning rings with Smush and Kwame.

But whatever.

Let's watch Mitch and Jim **** up this hire so you anti MDA fans can look real ****** foolish, again.

Next year will be a wash like this year was for Mike, but if he gets to 2015 and doesn't do anything and we have Love, draft pack and whoever else, then you'll hear from me.

I haven't said anything about this year, his failure to bring the team together last year , running Kobe into the ground alienating Pau, combined with his failure in NY and seemingly piss poor record without a prime Nash is what I get on him for. Not this year.

It's not like the next coach has to do much to show improvement. Make the playoffs and actually winning a game world be an upgrade over what MDA did here.

Who talkin about? New coach, or Mike? I'm not followin who you mean.

I figured it would be really difficult to pull him from Storrs:
Source: Kevin Ollie will listen to Lakers’ likely interest, but “real committed” to UConn

The Lakers are expected to reach out to Connecticut coach Kevin Ollie about their vacant head-coaching position, a pitch he plans to entertain with some uncertainty after guiding the Huskies to the 2014 NCAA men’s basketball championship.

“He’ll listen, but he’s real committed to his alma mater,” said a person familiar with Ollie’s thinking.

The Lakers are in the beginning stages of their coaching search after Mike D’Antoni resigned on Wednesday amid the team’s refusal to provide assurances they would exercise his team option for the 2015-16 season. They plan to consider a variety of candidates, ranging from high-priced coaches with NBA expensive to unproven albeit promising coaches from other backgrounds.

Ollie remains an intriguing option for reasons beyond guiding the seventh seeded Huskies to a national championship in only his second season as head coach.

Ollie had a non-descript 13-year NBA career, but he spent his final season in 2009-10 with the Oklahoma City Thunder where star Kevin Durant told ESPN’s Bill Simmons that Ollie was a “game changer” in bolstering the organization’s culture from a 23-win record in 2008-209 to a 50-win season and a first-round playoff appearance with the Lakers in 2009-10. Durant, who will likely become this season’s league MVP, will become a free agent in 2016.

Ollie also has hometown roots. He used to live in South Central Los Angeles and formerly starred at Crenshaw High.

Whoever becomes the Lakers coach has a huge responsibility. Although it is considered a premier job, the Lakers finished last season with a 27-55 record, sixth-worst in the NBA, partly stemmed from the players missing a combined 319 games because of injuries, most notably to Kobe Bryant (torn left Achilles tendon) and Steve Nash (nerve root irritation in back).

But the Lakers could have considerable purchasing power. The Lakers will field up to 12 free agents in July out of their 15-player roster. They are currently slated to receive a sixth overall pick in the first round, though the Lakers could move up in the NBA draft lottery on May 20. The Lakers are not expected to fill the position by then, so they can remain patient with the coaching search.

In all likelihood, why take the LA job now, when Ollie can wait a couple weeks, watch Brooks get fired, and then just take over the OKC job, with a MUCH better roster?

LA may be the more glam, but roster wise, he'd be a fool to pick us over OKC. And if OKC wants to do everything in their power to keep Durant in 2 years, it would be wise to invest in "his" coach ahead of time, and make Durant as happy as they can. (the anti-Cleveland approach to upcoming free agency)

See CP that's my only issue with you bro.
Why do you have to be so negative and nose down about future dealings when certain things don't go the way you see fit.

I thought we were all Laker fans in here, we all have 1 goal and that's championship.
Why would you even say something "Jim & Mitch will **** up" or "the next coach won't be ****"
Like I get where you're coming from and what you believe in. But you ain't gotta **** on the whole franchise because of it.

It's the Lakers, his hometown team.

Gets a lot more control over his roster because the pieces are not there. Also knowing the Lakers will always be a player in Free Agency.

Next season will be a wash for the new guy like the 27 win season was for Mike. If the Lakers truly aren't going to wait until 2015, expectations won't be high for the new hire in my eyes like it was this year after Kobe, Nash, and Pau went down.

Do you guys realize Mike hasn't won a playoff game since 2008? Not a series, a single game. With 3 years of missing the playoffs and quitting twice? Who else would be allowed to have that and be considered an elite coach?

You been watchin the last couple years? :lol :lol

I have been a HUGE Mitch guy for years on NT, you can find all the positive you need from me, on Mitch in the past.

Since the CP3 trade failed, he's been reaching like crazy, almost as if to "get it back" for losing out on Paul. Understandable, but stupid.

From that point, I have seen 1 bad thing after another. And now you expect me to believe they'll get this one right? :{

Listen to this right here, alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll year long, it was thrown in my face "the Lakers don't care about money". Remember that? The luxury tax, cap penalties, etc, the Lakers "don't care about money". Right?

What did the coach want? 1 year option, picked up. Like 4 million dollars. They declined. " the Lakers don't care about money"

You realize, they could have picked up the option, hated him next year if he sucked, and cancelled his year, and be out 4 mil, a drop in the bucket, for a team that don't care about money. But they ain't do that, now did they?

Now they want to "make a splash" and this and that. Tell me, when the **** are we going to be about winning again? When we gonna stop with the stay D12, and 48 million for old dudes who can't even play right now, and let's cut the coach loose, because 4 million dollars.

It ain't about goin "my way". They aren't going THE LAKERS WAY, anymore. They are acting like a small town dip **** franchise who can't sit still for 5 minutes and collect themselves. Rash move, after rash move, after rash move. Know what that leads to?

Our current state, longer term.

I don't know if you remember from other years, but others will agree with me, 3-4 years ago, whenever we lost to the Bobcats, or Bucks, or whoever, I was ALL positive, all the time. I trusted Mitch, Phil, Dr Buss, etc to stay the course, let it work itself out, long season, etc etc. And I was on their wavelength at all times.

I don't follow these dudes wavelengths no more. They are ******* up my franchise, and I'm not havin it. I want the NBA back under our thumb, not these 29 other piss ant teams mocking US. :{

So you're expectations were high for THIS seasons team? Were you one of the ones predicting playoffs this year? :lol :lol :lol :lol

You realize Mike has worked for Robert Sarver, James Dolan, and Jim Buss? Who WOULD have success under those 3 owners?

But I know, it's Mike's fault that Glock and Morris was his starting backcourt in the playoffs last year, hence not winning a single playoff game. The entire roster of old guys broke down, starting even before Mike got there, but we'll dump all that on him, sure.

pmatic pmatic

Who is this dude that just popped up in the Hater thread?

4 or 40 years doesn't matter. The Lakers organization is about WINNING NOW. The past isn't going to help the present.

Plus the Laker fans deserve this more than anybody. I know i shouldn't generalize but they are the most idiotic fan base in any sport.
I cringe reading the lakers off season thread. They have no clue. Will some do. You and CP1708 get it. But the rest don't.

His posting style reminds me of someone that no longer is employed here....... 8o

They weren't high this year, that's why I said this year isn't on him. Hell Mike Brown was able to win a game in the last 6 years in the playoffs.

Hell Thibs won a playoff SERIES year without his best player and a bunch of role guys but he sucks. He couldn't win a game that year with the Knicks when they played the Celtics? Doc and Thibs don't have frugal ownership at the helm?

Keep the excuses coming.

Hey well the deed is done. Time to move on. Look towards the future
Well except CP I think he is gonna sit this one out for the next 10 years
