2014 NBA Draft Thread

You dont know what your talking about.

So you think Philly is gonna try to win next year?

Sarcasm bruh lol.

"The Sixers want to win big. They have no interest in being the late-2000s Hawks. They know the easiest avenue to win big is to find a superstar...Everyone seems to agree that Joel Embiid represents this draft’s best chance at a superstar, and so the Sixers, happy to embrace the risk of foot injuries and disastrously bad big men playing disastrously bad basketball for them next season, plucked Embiid right up." - Grantland

We tanking again. Probably gonna absorb bad contracts, trade thad for picks, roll out a team probably even worse than last year but fun to watch and make our full on push in 2016-2017.

can't wait to see embiid and noel destroy opponents front courts on offense and defense.

Man Spurs could have drafted Corey Jefferson (last overall pick) with their 30th pick and NT'be like "OMG Spurs do it again, Jefferson have it all, how'd they steal another one, Pop will get everything out of Jefferson"

Before they took Kyle Anderson his name wasn't mentioned once, everybody was saying "please don't let the Spurs steal Cleanthony, if they do it's genius"

When they didn't pick Cleanthony and instead selected Anderson, NT was like "OMG blah blah blah" you guys are robots man, unplug for once.

I praised Kyle Anderson like a month before the draft.

Actually I found the post, it was exactly a month before the draft in fact....

Here's what I said when another NT said he wasn't a NBA worthy talent.
Stop, dude is nice. Even if he's not the most athletic, he can pass, he can get to the rim, he may not be the most explosive finisher but he can score. he has very good handles, great court vision, high IQ.

someone will hone him into an NBA role player, they'll work on his conditioning.

nobody is expecting him to play a ton of minutes early on.

he's a project, but a potentially rewarding one.

point forwards rarely work out, but when they do, they can create mismatches and give opposing teams headaches.

So chill with the sweeping generalizations about NTers, I been knowing he would be a great fit with the right team and role.

And here ya go.

You don't have to like Kyle Anderson, but don't act like he wasn't a commodity before the Spurs took him. In fact in early '14 he was projected as a mid first rounder by a few sites. Just because you wasn't up on slow-mo doesn't mean someone else wasn't.

Gee....awfully eerie that what I said long before the Spurs took him reflects exactly the sentiment I had after the Spurs took him.

GO FIGURE.....:lol

Anderson stock was wild before draft. He was projected as a lottery pick by some when he played well during the tournament. It eventually settled into late 1st round so it is not that surprising that Spurs grabbed him at the end of the first round. I think it's the fact that Spurs develop their players so well that make people rave about the Anderson pick. I suspect that if he got drafted by other teams there would not be much buzz about him. I am happy for him though. His potential success depended heavily on which team he lands, and he possibly got drafted by the best team for him.

Yep I saw him as high as 10 on one website it was either draftexpress or nbadraft.net can't remember off-top which site was high on him....

He went from lotto to mid teens to low 20s to finally mid 20s-late 20s....

And you're right, much of the post-draft buzz surrounding him is because of his situation. The Spurs are the ideal landing spot for him and fans of his should be rightfully stoked.

Let the kid cook. :smokin

The Sixers just drafted 2 guys who aren't playing this year - they're not trading for Matthews, they're not signing Mills or Stephenson - they're clearly committed to fielding a D-League team around their 2-3 actual NBA players (MCW, young, Noel). Not sure why you're getting your hopes up :lol

See this is what makes a Thad trade tough...the only things we're looking for are promising young players and picks, but most the teams that want him are playoff teams/one piece away. I know the Kings wanna win now and just drafted Stauskas, so obviously McLemore isn't in their future plans or there's a trade in the works. He'd fit what we'd need.

Instead of saying 'traded to ___ for cash considerations,' why not just say 'sold?' Isn't trading money for a commodity or service, buying and selling?

This, man every site I've been on people are just slurping the spurs. Like they haven't drafted Cory Joseph(Rotting on the bench) James Anderson(Dookie) and George Hill(lol) as their last 3 first rounders. They've made 1 good pick in like the past 5/6 years in Dejaun Blair in the second round. But since it's the Spurs they turn **** into gold

It's very hard to get a rotation player let alone a starter in the late 20s and beyond. So when a team like the Spurs do draft one (Ginobili, Parker, Splitter, Hill, Blair, etc) they tend to stand out.

any idea when the nba store is gonna start selling jersey shirts for the draftees?

:lol George Hill is your evidence? You mean the 26th pick who has started 152 games in the last 2 years? The guy who was starting PG for back-to-back Conference Finals? In 2012-13 and before the Pacers collapsed this year, that starting 5 was the best in the league. They just had no bench. Don't confuse a player being limited to a player not being useful. George Hill is a top notch defender, pretty good shooter and definitely a good guy to manage the offense if you run thru the low post like the Pacers do. He doesn't do well against the Heat because not many PGs do.

George Hill is evidence of how good the Spurs are at drafted.

Also the Kyle Anderson talk is non-sense. Just because Jay Bilas and Bill Simmons didn't talk about Anderson doesn't mean no one was talking about him. This is a big thread but I bet you could go back and find a couple discussions about SloMo. No way anyone thought he was going to slip to 30. I think your projecting ESPN's coverage of the draft onto what real draft heads think. It's dumb.

Man the Spurs could've drafted Ronald McDonald and everyone would've been like 'another solid pick, perfect fit. Blahblah blah"

Anderson is not an NBA rotation player. The Diaw comparisons are disrespectful

Spurs player development is what's great, not necessarily their drafting.

NBA more than any other league is about player development.

This will be the third year in a row the Sixers will have a starting center that won't play (Bynum, Noel, Embid)
