2014 NBA Draft Thread

Admittedly haven't watched much college ball in the last few yrs, just going off highlight videos, DX videos and expert analysis, but couldn't be less excited about the Thunder's draft. Dude is 6'10 and his highlight tape was nothing but layups and Collison-esque plays. I see you, got to keep a blue collar white boy on the roster. But Clint Capela was still on the board, and I liked KJ McDaniels or even CJ Wilcox since we need a 2. Heustis seems redundant to Roberson, hell they even look a like.

They turned George Hill into Kawhi tho.

They did and I actually completely forgot about him lol and props for being able to flip him

PMatic , not disagreeing but people out here making it sound like no matter who they take is a great pick. Bulls have drafted ( Jimmy Butler/Taj Gibson/ late in the first ) Thunder(Steven Adams, Reggie Jackson, Perry Jones, Serge Ibaka ) Houston( Terrence Jones, Chandler Parsons) Indiana( Paul George/Lance Stephenson/ Miles Plumlee) hell Atlanta(Jeff Teague/ late first and Mike Scott late second) Philly( Jrue,Vucecic out of the lottery) Every team is going to hit on some late picks it's just the nature of the draft. While the Spurs are good at drafting they aren't hitting on pick after pick.

I understand people pointing out Ginoblli and Parker but at the same time it's like those dudes have been in the league for like 15 and 13 years. The Spurs do a great job of getting role players through FA(Marco, Patty, Diaw, Green, Bonner, Baynes,Ayres) more so than drafting amazing talents they turn into great role players or stars

People are excited becasue Kyle Anderson landed on the perfect team, a lot of the draft prospects future are going to be determined by fit, Kyle landed to a team that has a similar type of player Boris Diaw already on their squad, I don't think he's ever going to be quite as good as Diaw was in his prime because of his lack of athleticism but he can be somewhat similar to the old tubby Diaw we see today.

and they have one of the best player development staffs, especially when it comes to shooting, something that has to stay consistent for Kyle to be a good NBA player.

I don't get what you are trying to say, the spurs are good at drafting, no one said they hit on pick after pick except for you.

They outperform the expected value more consistently than others.

Drafting a star in the 20's or in the 2nd round is highly luck based but consistently beating draft expected value is a skill, Spurs/Houston/Thunder are probably the three best teams in the league at it.

George Hill is your evidence? You mean the 26th pick who has started 152 games in the last 2 years? The guy who was starting PG for back-to-back Conference Finals? In 2012-13 and before the Pacers collapsed this year, that starting 5 was the best in the league. They just had no bench. Don't confuse a player being limited to a player not being useful. George Hill is a top notch defender, pretty good shooter and definitely a good guy to manage the offense if you run thru the low post like the Pacers do. He doesn't do well against the Heat because not many PGs do.

George Hill is evidence of how good the Spurs are at drafted.

sounds like another guy I know

You mean the 48th pick who has started 150 games in the last 2 years? The guy who was starting PG for back-to-back Championships? In 2011-2013 and before the Heat got destroyed this year, that starting 5 was the best in the league. They just had no bench. Don't confuse a player being limited to a player not being useful. Mario Chamlers is a top notch defender, pretty good shooter and definitely a good guy to manage the offense.

But I bet you wouldn't dare call Mario Chalmers a good point guard.
George Hill is still in the bottom half of starting PG. You named a bunch of team accomplishments stating why he's a good players but that offense he manages was one of the worst offense in basketball, They were literally below average in every single offensive category(FG%,3pt%,ORTG,) and he's a slightly above average defender

Anybody have know which nba draft produced the most eventul all stars?

I find it crazy that the avg number of allstars or even "very good" players are so scarce in any draft

Flip it anyway you want but if you get a legit STARTER in the late 1st round or 2nd round - it's a damn good pick.

I personally think Chalmers and George Hill are in the top tier of PG defenders but if you don't agree that's fine. I'm just saying the draft is hard enough. If you get a starter late in the draft, that's a win.

@SneakerHeathen well it sounds like you want some praise, for knowing what was up.

Good job man.

Now again, the rest of NT, please stop.
I bet if I go back and look at that convo, I bet @SneakerHeathen was prolly getting flamed for being on Anderson.

And sneakerheathen you know NT is some penis riders so don't act like I'm tripping, just because you have proof that you know what's up. Proof me the rest of the NT aren't penis riders and that THEY were saying Anderson was nice and I will shut up......right, probably won't find anything, right

But.. Good call sneakerheathen. You want a snicker doodle or a chocolate chip?

Edit:in Jesus Name we pray, Amen

IMO the Sixers should have done the deal the Bulls did with DEN to get 16 and 19 instead of taking Saric at 10. Then with those two picks taken Hairston and Hood.

MCW
Hairston
Hood
Noel
Embiid

Team would be straight booty cheeks for the foreseeable future, but they are going to be that anyway. At least they would have picked up some wings with potential and shooting which god knows they desperately needed. IDK, I'm just not crazy on the idea of Saric.

Yeah they should have but they wanted Saric and the Hawks at 15 gave him a promise.

Excellent thought. Except I'd want Harris at the 2 and Hood at SF. Know many of you guys love Hairston, it's understandable with his shooting ability. But the maturity issues linger and Harris is better. Defends well, will continue to improve his outside shot which is already decent, and slashes with ease. MCW's length makes up for Harris' lack of prototypical height for a SG.

Also wanted Clarkson in the second-round, although I love the McDaniels pick. Like the Grant pick for upside purposes, wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't pan out. May struggle to find a position and/or midrange to deep shot.

@bilboshmangins yea man, I had UCLA in the final Four in my money bracket. He had a lot to do with that.

So it's safe to say some of y'all know what's up.

Fair enough. Damn though, how they get 4 players in the NBA draft though, and no Title. They met that best coached team in NCAA named Florida (I think 4 players were drafted from them, maybe 3)

I have an odd feeling that cabocla kid is going to be like this insane great player lmao
