2014 NBA Draft Thread

The one thing I don't get....

People say in order to win a championship, you need at least one superstar. So, I wondered why Orlando didn't try to go after that "superstar" player in Smart or Exum? Gordon may end up being good, but I just can't see him blossoming into a superstar that can carry a team. I just thought Orlando got what they wanted in terms of an energy, defensive stopper, athlete in Oladipo last year. Why go for the same thing this year?

Man...thats the thing. Sure we can predict and assume who becomes an allstar but NOBODY knows until it happens (Magic johnson statement i know). I wouldnt be shocked at all if he does become one. Im a strong believer in the situation a player drafted into being the key to succeding up to potential. I like the magic in this case

So we're operating on the assumption that Smart and Exum have a higher potential to be a superstar than Gordon? That's understandable. I agree by the way about your theory that you want to build around a superstar. The Magic could have been convinced that Gordon would have been gone by #12 but that Payton could be had.. and maybe the Magic were just as high or higher on Payton than Smart or Exum. I'm not going to knock the Magic for selecting Gordon that high because I'm not at all convinced that Smart nor Exum are stars in the making...

Imo, a better comparison for Patric young is Jason maxiell. Been Wallace Is setting the bar too high
You're insulting the hell out of Jason Maxiell.

You read Nate Silver's article on sophomores? It's a good read if you haven't.

I've been saying this for a while.

The real reason the NBA wants 2 years in school is so they can have more years of a players prime under the rookie contract.

It has zero to do with player development or reducing the amount of busts as there is no evidence college experience can help to reduce the former or the latter.

All I know is Payton-Oladipo-Harkless-Gordon can be one of the greatest defensive lineups of all time :lol

Maybe Oladipo is the superstar

give me footage. i watch most the drew league/summer ball tapes.. never seen or heard of the game going at b jennings

I'm saying :lol. Game is mostly a catch and brick player from what I've seen at the drew

Ben was playing better at the end of last season. We'll see how that turns out, but man, I don't know if the Kings have the patience to develop Ben and Stauskas.

Ain't like they got anything better to do

change the title to nba rookie thread and lets keep it going all season

You are a got damn genius

like i said he better bulk up fast... he is listed at 220

im gonna name you a couple pf he will be banging against that are all above 240 and physical....

NaNa
Millsap
West
Segre
LA
Love
Favors
TD
Zack
Blake
Monroe
Booz
Lee

so like i said kid better bulk up if hes gonna be on that box everynight. He will be burned out by game 40. Those old heads laying on him everything the ball comes off the rim will put alot of wear and tear on the young fella fast.

You do realize coming out of UK AD said he realized he had to bulk up fast bc he went up against guys like NaNa, TD, and West. And how they put his frail *** in the bucket. So if one of the best college defensive players ever said he was lite in the *** coming out. What do you think that means for Gordon?

Weight is not a sole indication of strength.

Dennis Rodman was pulling down 20 boards at 210-220 for his career. Eddy Curry was 500 pounds and couldn't board to save his life.

Gordon has core strength. He's not "weak" or "frail" by any means. He'll probably add some weight to his frame and gain more strength over time...but there's certainly no reason for anyone to think that he's "too weak" right now to be impactful against NBA big men.

I totally didn't realize Toronto had the 37th pick. They dude they took @ 20 would have EASILY been available @ 37.

I cannot wait till summer league starts july 5th. Eager to see who improved from last year and how the new rooks perform
