2014 NBA Draft Thread

Is it easier for a prospect to get noticed overseas than in the states? Sure seems like it. Its like finding lanky dudes from your local hood park that are good at everything and drafting him.

I think Bruno would have got stashed by somebody before 37...the real "what the **** was that?" pick of the whole draft was Josh Huestis at 29. Dude played in this country, everyone was able to see him anytime they wanted and he wasn't even invited to the combine. He could go on to have a decent Sefolosha-like designated defender career but they could have got him a good 20 picks later.

:lol  Funny seeing this from NT's resident basketball snob.

Look I don't pretend to be Chris Broussard.

I was fine with the pick, even more fine with it after getting Bebe,if you don't have elite talent, you should be taking risks like this late in the draft to maximize your chances of getting on, role players are pretty explendable.

I had way more problems with Deandre Daniels who wasn't in my top 60, going 37th.

David Aldridge says he's wasn't going to be available at 37.

By Draft night, Toronto had it all mapped out: take Ennis in the first round, then double back for Caboclo in the second round, with the 37th pick overall. To be safe, the Raptors probed throughout the first round, looking for potential places to move up. But nothing was available before their pick. So they waited.

And Phoenix took Ennis at 18.

Everyone on the outside figured the Suns took Ennis as part of a pre-arranged deal with Toronto. But there was no pre-arranged deal. Phoenix liked Ennis, and figured if the Raptors really wanted him, they'd pay. But the two sides couldn't work out a deal. Time was short.

Caboclo's agent started getting calls. The information grapevine that flows between agents and teams started trickling in: maybe Oklahoma City, at 21, or Phoenix, which had another first-rounder at 27. Or San Antonio, which had the last pick of the round. If the Raptors waited until the second round, there was a very strong chance he'd be gone. And it was very hard to get additional picks this late in the process; teams have made promises to players they intend to draft if they're still on the board.

And, remember: the Suns knew about Caboclo (Barbosa). The Mavericks knew about him (Canales). The Rockets knew about him (Rosas). The Spurs knew about him (Idoka, Ginobili, Oberto). And the Raptors suspected other teams, including the Pacers and Jazz, which had two of the best international departments in the league with Pete Philo in Indiana and Rich Sheubrooks in Utah, also were on the trail. The Pacers didn't have any picks, but the Jazz had 23 in the first round, 35 in the second.

Toronto could take someone else at 20; there were good players still on the board. But the likelihood of someone playing right away other than Ennis, who filled a need and could have gotten even more playing time if free agent Kyle Lowry leaves, was scant. So, the Raptors figured, why not take the guy you like now, even if he's a long-term project?

Developed a website based on my ineterests.

Decided to write some thoughts on the draft this year. Just my opinion, so don't take me seriously

Isn't Gordon 6-8 though? that's a little undersized to play full-time against other NBA 4s.

6-8 220 sounds like an optimal number for 3, not 4. Numbers don't always determine everything, but I think he needs to get to 6-8 240 ish to battle NBA bruisers down low.

Gordon's wingspan is a bigger issue playing PF. He'll likely have a difficult time contesting shots at the rim, even with the elite athleticism in hand.

Same rule applies to Randle.

Just caught up on that trade with the Hawks..Raptors definitely came up on that one....I guess the Hawks get out of paying Lou an extra year but they aint gonna use the cap space on nothing major tho anyway :lol

Y'all sleeping on my man James young , gonna be getting his buckets in boston
I said that he'll be the sleeper of this draft and people in here laughed at me. Dude definitely has the intangibles just has to work on knocking down a consistent jumpshot which comes with time

Great, he had one amazing play and then...disappeared for the rest of the game.

That's the most concerning part: he doesn't bring it 100% of the time. His effort is atrocious. And people love to bring up Jabari's defense but James Young is a traffic cone on D.

Surprised he didn't have a sequin suit on at the draft.

That quick, south-paw release can go a long way in the NBA dun

After watching exhausting amounts of highlights and scouting vids since the draft I'm honestly shocked Jabari wasnt the #1 pick

Seems like he's got the goods kid scores from everywhere, ball handling , off the dribble , catch and shoot , finishing in traffic (with contact ), and size means this kid gonna hit the ground running.

He's got the grown man game I'm a fan of his already, hope he shows out.
