2014 NBA Draft Thread

Osh still hung up on Parker's defensive demise because "he won't be able to stick 3's"... damn man. I think Parker will end up guarding both 3's and 4's early in his career. Does it really matter to everyone?

Giannis could probably play and guard the 2 anyway lol, he played it last year according to 82games.com

Wow. Just cause you are a 2 that handles the ball does not make you a point. Those guys are play makers. Did that make Kobe a PG because fish played a similar role as Beverly. Cut it out.

You're position is what you play, and your skillset.

A 6ft 160guard like iverson played shooting guard. Not point. And he rarely guarded an SG unless the matchup presented itself.

Matchups and schemes are way more important in defense than if I can guard my position 1 on 1

1. Yes Kobe was the primary ball handler and playmaker for the lakers, traditionaly thought of as a "PG" but he isn't a point WHY? because he can't defend the point.

Dwayne Wade skillset on of the Heats primary post up options, doesn't shoot 3's and gets a lot of points off dump offs from penetration,

Chris Bosh is the heats shooter floor spacer, and mid range shooter, they even run him off curls like a traditional SG.

Is Dwayne Wade the Heats PF, and Bosh the Heats SG?

No.

Why?

Because your position is PRIMARILY ABOUT WHO YOU CAN GUARD.

2. being slow, effects you one on one and in help situations. its not just about guarding one on one, its about helping against penetration and recovering to shooters.

whatever man you guys clearly aren't getting this.

Th league is getting smaller for a reason, big SF's and big PG's are endangered species but you guys think Jabari will be the excpetion.

I don't agree, the Bucks don't agree.

Time will tell.

I posted an article awhile back in this very thread where a scout said "you are who you can guard". :lol

man with your logic i guess lebron runs the PG spot because he guarded tony parker in the finals and brought the ball up the court. And that makes dwade the center and chris bosh the 3. So chalmers is SG and anderson is PF. I like that line up

More often than not scouts are wrong anyway :lol

I get it. The game has changed and players evolve. You're either a guard, a forward, or a center.

Great defenders can guard multiple positions and poor defenders guard the worst offensive player respectable to their position.

Defense is a team concept anyway.

If we're going by the traditional PG/SG/SF/PF/C, the position you guard on defense is not the position you play on offense.

Your position is dictated by your skillset mainly.

Otherwise Magic wouldn't be a PG

Basically with a few exceptions.

The NBA now has so many players that ate versatile with unique skill sets that trying to peg players into one position is little a pointless.

@Mike_Bresnahan: Lakers draft pick Julius Randle does not need surgery on his right foot, foot specialists have determined. He has been cleared to play.
