2014 NBA Draft Thread

So you're pretty much telling me that a player in the best league in the world can go off at any time? :eek :lol
Tony Delk scored 53 points, Tracy Murray scored 50 points himself. chit happens
All I am saying is that if you're worried about Bari's defense that much, you can find one player on the floor to put him on to hide it. You're acting like he can't improve on that side of the floor and defense isn't a team concept! You're pin-pointing his weakness and forgetting his biggest strength, which is putting the ball in the hole. Regardless if he plays the 4 or the 3, the opposition will have their best perimeter defender on him.
Do you consider Steph Curry a SG since he never guards the top offensive point guards in the league?

you misunderstanding my point. I think Jabari is a good player, he is going to almost certainly win the rookie of the year, and he's a top 3 prospect.

i was simply explaining why his ceiling is perceived to be lower than wiggins/embiid/exum sometimes. He's a PF, with average size and athleticism, and top 10 players usually have either elite size for position or elite athleticism.

so people started arguing about him being a PF, your position is determined by mostly by who you can guard, Steph Curry could gaurd PG's, not well but with the offensive burden he has to bnare they have klay Thompson do it, but he wont short circuit the entire defense.

There are no 240 pound SF besides lebron, but im the one who's crazy for saying Jabari can't do it.

the purpose of "tanking" the workout is to turn off cleveland from drafting him as a surefire 1/2 pick, obviously. him not having to go is pretty irrelevant.

i don't think he was 245 in this video. If it was, he was 255 in college:

refusing to workout for a team sends the same message. why gain 20 pounds when he's been struggling to loose it.

Chad ford said he wasn't in shape in that video either. He's at least 240.

There is has been a tiny amount of players drafted at SF who were over 235.

240 pound SF's are almost extinct, why should I believe that Jabari is going to be the exception.

If any of you are looking into getting league pass, get ballstreams instead. Someone here recommended it to me and it's probsbly the best purchase I ever made. Google it.
What do you like about it vs. league pass?

1. No blackout games
2. Every game is in HD
3. You can choose whether you want the Away or Home feeds
4. Can watch from laptop, hdmi through TV, on phone, Roku, Xbox, etc
5. Can pause/DVR/rewind and watch replay of every game.

Plus its only $90 for the year. If you have a good internet connection its perfect.

no it doesn't when you're a top 1/2 pick that everyone knows has had some minor weight issues. then you show up way bigger than everyone even expected. cmon dawg.

lol @ the "Chad Ford said..."

sounds like the definition of media parroting. he was clearly in really good shape, just looking at how he was getting those shots off. and looked quick also.

Chad ford has more information than you or I do, you have no information other than a youtube video.

Osh kosh bosh....

You sure love you some Chad Ford lol.

Those guys on draftnet are better than him. He's bad.

That "position is who you defend BS" is straight parrot. If You watch NBA games, guys straight up HIDE weak defenders on the nearest weak offensive player. Every team doesn't have the same set of players.

I guarantee if the Bucks play the clippers, Jabari will be defending whoever the 3 is and not Blake griffin.

So tell me, since according to y'all, and your "position is who you guard" stuff what would that make him in that scenario?

That would make him and Lebron James the only 240 pound SF's, if thats what you believe fine, thats on you.

I think Giannis will guard the 3, Jabari will guard the 4 or who ever can't post up.

another thing, when I say he can't play the 3, I mean, you can't build a championship contender with Jabari playing the 3.

Melos been listed at 230 since he came into the league, KD is listed at 6'9 230, Bron is still listed at 250 for Gods sake. Couple pounds don't even matter. You still think Paul Pierce is still 235, Rudy Gay still 230?

All this doesn't matter when you can play the position.

And you still didn't answer my question [emoji]128526[/emoji]

Don't they say Lebron is closer to 260.

From what I seen of Jabari I don't why guys would want him guarding 3s. Guarding 4s will allow him to use body and length more which is a strength for him.

well the history of the NBA combine measurments seems to think it matters.

Guys who came into the league at 240, don't stay at 3, the history is there, go look at the combine measurements. there are like 10 SF's who came into the league at 235, most played in the late 90's early 2000, (an era with less shooting so you can get away with bigger sf's and pg's) and all of them ended up as 4's.

The exception is basically lebron James, Melo is a 4 now, PP is a 4.

and for your question: who you can gaurd effectively. If the bucks play him at the 3 and they suck, and their defense is horrible, my awnser will stay the same, he is a 4. Unless he makes MASSIVE improvements to his body, lateral quickness and defensive IQ.

Lebron has been reported to be 265-270 now, bari is a small forward he has been one since high school, he can guard the 3 just how bennett was also a 3 in highschool. Both ended up sacrificing precious time learning the 4 spot bennett didn't lose the weight hopefully bari does

When AI played the 2, and Eric Snow ran the point, and guarded the 2's did that make them switch positions because "you're position is who you guard" lol

Bennett was a PF in high school, PF AAU. has always been a PF, and is PF now. He can't guard 3's which makes his position...

you guessed it PF.

Bennett isn't a 3 because he doesn't have the ball skills or range. Not because he can't guard 3's lol. He was never a 3 to begin with.

This is all semantics by the way. Players like Parker are virtually position-less. He will play both positions.

But to pigeonhole him and say that he can't play 3, because you believe he can't defend 3s because he's 240 is ridiculous

Bennett was listed as a PF in high school but he rotated lol, he guarded 3's many times in high school, and at UNLV. Bari has always been a SF and both played out of their true position in college

The distinction between small guards is less important and more interchangeable,

Just think about it, what is really the purpose of the position?; to help you better understand how to build your roster,

traditional positional designations matter WAY less on offense, Manu Ginobili is "PG" when he's on the court for the spurs, James Harden is the "PG" for the spurs when he's on the court, but we classify these players as SG's BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GUARD THE POINT.

If you have to get another player to gaurd the position that they can't, that is the point of a position, to figure out the construction of your roster.

you are making the mistake of thinking about position in terms of offense.

its 2014.

I watched 90% of Bennett's UNLV games, and a decvent amount of AAU, HS, he played a lot of center and played PF when Mike moser got back, he never played 3.

he's always been a pf.

Wow. Just cause you are a 2 that handles the ball does not make you a point. Those guys are play makers. Did that make Kobe a PG because fish played a similar role as Beverly. Cut it out.

You're position is what you play, and your skillset.

A 6ft 160guard like iverson played shooting guard. Not point. And he rarely guarded an SG unless the matchup presented itself.

Matchups and schemes are way more important in defense than if I can guard my position 1 on 1
