2014 NBA Draft Thread

Logically you could argue there are less distractions in a small market and players could be more focused, but I agree there are ore factors and it isn't that cut and dry anyways

Embiid will never achieve his potential unless he slips to Boston/LA or Hakeem takes it upon himself to kidnap him. those other teams will have no clue how to develop a raw big man. I like what I've heard about philly and noel but I doubt they draft him. shame really.
I second this. Cleveland has the worst player development. Kyrie and LeBron came into the league ready. Dion Waiters is good. Anthony Bennett, Tristian Thompson, Tyler Zeller, Sergey Karasev, Christian Eyenga.... Just a few first rounders that look like busts

watching Bynum over the years, there's no way he would be anywhere near as good as he was if not for Kareem, Phil and the rest of the help he received from the staff. look at all the help Dwight has had and his offensive game is still inconsistent. it's not about the location it's the quality and ability of the organization to build winners. Cavs are a joke of an organization and his career will suffer if he ends up there, no doubt in my mind.

Drafting poorly =/= poor development system.

You can't say the cavs did poor developing Bennett because it's only been one year and he came in out of shape due to injury.

Do you think guys like Zeller, Karasev, Eyenga would have vastly different careers if they went somewhere else? Tristan Thompson is about as good as I'd expected him to be as well.

It's not like they're getting all these young guys, then they go elsewhere and blossom into all-stars. I have less issues with Cleveland's development, but rather than strategy and drafting.

I honestly believe they would be quality role players. Heck, Zeller could have STARTED for the Spurs, because I KNOW he's better than Tiago Splitter.

Zeller is not starting over Splitter who's making 9 million per. Wouldn't happen.

And I agree with Big J about the Cavs drafting strategy.
Hopefully your confusing the Zeller brothers.

And even then, Cody isn't better than splitter right now
I'm saying if he had the right organization to develop him properly. Tyler Zeller's ceiling coming out of college was higher than what Splitter is doing now.

You need to pay more attention to basketball if you think Splitter is that bad. There's a reason the SPURS, a model organization) are paying him 9+ mil a year and start him.

I never said he was bad though, I just feel that with proper development, Tyler Zeller could have been better.

:lol man some of ya'll logics in here man.

What I gathered from the last few posts:

-Players will end up better in smaller markets because of less distractions
-Player develpoment falls soley on the franchise they're picked by, not by the actual will to succeed by the player
-You're automatically skilled if you're drafted by LA or Boston

:rollin :rollin :rollin

Enough is enough.

What if I told you that Tyler Zellar is just a ******* flat out bum and he'll never amount to anything more than below-average role player?

Give me an example of a project player the Cavs were able to develop into something

Tristan Thompson was a reach at 4 almost averages a double double. Realistically, what was ever expected of him?

Who on their roster would have exactly benefitted from being elsewhere besides Cleveland? Don't just name 10th and 11th men on the roster either.

75% of the players on the current Cavs roster haven't even been in the league for more than 3 years, how could you even talk about "develop into something"??

:lol c'mon man. Do you watch basketball or do you just skim through it.

But even with that being said, Kyrie hasnt developed into a border-line superstar?

Because the last time I checked, he wasnt a unanimous decision to go #1 pick because of his injuries.

Zeller fell to 17 for a reason, and then was dealt by the mavs.

He is who he is
And Splitter was drafted 28th. And surprisingly there career numbers are very similar.

I'm not understanding how you're comparing the development of a guy that's been playing professional basketball for 14 years to that of someone who's been playing 2
