Wade only played 53 games. Some of those, he came out in as well. Next season, it'll be even lower. Loyalty, is even offering him a contract.

can someone in depth explain the specifics of bird rights?

are there limits to how far over the cap you can go?

The Bird rights allow a team to sign a player to a max deal (25-30%) of your cap, even if you exceed the salary cap. As long as said player was drafted or has been with that organization for 3+ season.

Let's say for example team A is at 50 mill with their current roster and the cap is set at 60. Under the bird rights this team is allowed to extend a max salary based on years played to said players at 25% of your cap.

Then there's the Rose rules which basically allows you to get 30% of the cap.

so hypothetically, the rockets could shell out deals in FA to get to the 64 million dollar cap, and because they have parsons bird rights, they can exceed the salary cap of up to 25% of their cap to resign him without it being penalized?

They'd have to stay under the Cap Hold on him $2.875mil. So they could spend $60.225mil in salary before they have to re-sign Parsons.

Only problem is if a team jumps the gun, and offers him a max, and he says Yes. He becomes a cap hold of $15mil, you have to match it, or let him go.

But assuming you do not pay someone else a max, you are allowed to give him a max deal.

They'd have to stay under the Cap Hold on him $2.5mil. So they could spend $60.6mil in salary before they have to re-sign Parsons.

i'm sure daryl is prepared. the more i think of it, i'm conflicted on signing a 3rd star. i'd be content signing 2 above average complimentary players, then resign parsons.

Personally, I think you'd be better off going that route. The team will be better overall than it would be with a 3rd star.

Wade bailed them out by opting out

You realize that Wade has an agent and his agent has other clients around the NBA

It's bad business to offer Wade 5 million

It's a small league

the rockets could theoretically sign 2-3 of these guys, what it would cost to give out a max contract

Don't Bron, Bosh, Wade and UD all have Bird rights? They've all been there 3+ years.

What's stopping them from bringing Melo and someone else in if they have 55 million free, then going over the cap and bringing those guys back as well?

It'll be a monster luxury tax bill though right? Mickey might not want to be Prokhorov :lol

Cap Holds.... Each have Cap Holds of $20mil until they sign a deal. Technically they have no space.

For example, the Lakers have less than $10mil in cap space until they renounce the rights to Pau Gasol (which is $19million).

You could renounce your rights to Bron, Wade & Bosh, but that gets rid of Bird Rights...

I hope amare mans up :{

He already opted in.

Amar'e is due $22million..

In what universe does he get a contract that gets him that $22mil. He wouldn't even get $22mil on a 5 year deal.

Wade is getting all the money he is owed, just over a longer period of time. He's basically stretching his contract.

What about bringing Lowry back? Isn't he an URFA? Then maybe trade Lin for something, if possible.

The only reason I didn't list Lowry is because we have Beverly, troy daniels, Isaiah Canaan, and just drafted Nick Johnson. That's already 4 guards under 6'4. I don't know who'd we get rid of and how to acquire Lowry

Its the NBA, you dont screw players like that

what about Paul Pierce

he didnt want to leave the Celtics

one of the greatest Celtics ever. went through horrible seasons without complaining

no loyalty brah, if a team wants they will throw you to the wolves

Putting Kyle Lowry in a position where he has to compete with multiple guards at his position would be a bad idea.

Patrick Beverly is a backup. Lin is a back up. They both were food against Portland. They need a starting pg. Not saying parson needs big money, but dude fits them perfectly.
