Let's leave the lame duck because that's always good to mold young players developmentally and character wise." Do you agree Mets fans have become complacent with mediocrity? Loyal to a fault.

Nah, I think Met fans want to win and be successful (some of them have that loser mentality of just wanting to be better than the Yankees but that's another argument). The problem is, some folks think it's just gathering talent and fielding it and that leads to a winning culture/franchise. I'll stand by it until it's proven wrong but as long as Bud and his successor keep the Wilpon's in place, they're screwed. I also can't stress how fracturing it could be to have a lame duck guy stick around "mentoring" and "coaching" the young kids you are depending on the bring a winning attitude to the team. I see no reason why they won't have Collins back next year either. It's sad.

Side note, I know Met fans will think this is just typical Yankee fan bashing IDK why I typed all that.

Honestly, I am getting so tired of the people *****ing and moaning about baseball's unwritten rules.  There are unwritten rules in every sport.  Are you going to tell me that an NFL linebacker is not going to blindside a receiver coming across the middle if the other team just hurt one of their teammates?  You dont think this happens in hockey either? 

I am not condoning intentionally trying to hurt a player, but beaning batters has been happening for over a century.  Sometimes a message needs to be sent.

maybe i'm "new" to the sport. i've only started following baseball in the last 6 years and even then i'm more casual than die hard.

but you will have a hard time trying to tell me "showing up the pitcher" via bat flips or rounding the bases in a slow manner, or "walking across the mound", or any of that nonsensical BS calls for someone getting pitched at and potentially injured. and those examples from other sports are all eye for an eye. i really can't think of any other "unwritten rules" these sports have.

i was listening to sports radio earlier and someone said that you gotta do those type of things or you'll get picked on and walked over by the league. how exactly would a team get picked on if they don't bean guys for whatever reason?

Thing is Cutch isn't that guy who looks to show anyone up. He is the f'ing MVP and gets plunked like he is Jay Bruce. Ridiculous and derails a possible back to back MVP campaign as well as sunk the team from playoff contention


And the catcher using his middle finger to signal the hit just further fans the flames

He's the Pirates best player, that's why he got hit.

He gets hit far more often than other teams top players IMO. From what I've seen at least (which of course isn't fact)

He robbed Ellsbury of a possible inside the park grand slam on that play Kobe was out and JD/Torii weren't all that close. That was the best catch I've seen this year.

Kirk Gibson is the great American baseball hero. He'll have to do a lot worse to get chastised by Bud unfortunately. Scumbag Diamondbacks.

McCutchen being the best player on the Pirates isn't good enough reason to hit him. He's a top 3 player who never shows anything but class on the diamond, yet he's plunked as if he's Yasiel Puig. Kirk Gibson should get beat down.

There's never a good enough reason to just hit someone, but usually when your best player gets hit (Goldshmidt) you retaliate by hitting the other teams best player. It happens.

I get that, but at this point in the season when the Pirates are in the middle of a division race and the D Backs are 15 out, it's not ok. Rules or not.

From what I've read, McCutchen hurt himself swinging......not because he was drilled with the pitch. So this whole conversation about drilling batters is irrelevant to the Cutch injury.

Cleveland sold Cabrera too late. His stock peaked in 2011-2012. I don't know if same can be said for Masterson after contract talks were tabled.
