I know in the past half decade, the RBI has been labeled "overrated" and a stat that is outdated like "W-L" for pitchers.
In the entire article regarding Cabrera's additional plate appearances, they fail to mention that Cabrera has 52 more RBI's.
Trout is a great talent, probably once in a generation if he continues his upward trajectory. However, he is playing for one of the most dissapointing teams in baseball. It's not his fault he got called up in April, so blame DiPoto for letting marinate in the minors for no real reason. Cabrera is having a monster year, power numbers are better, and might get his team in the playoffs.
Being a defensive liability or playing a position that doesn't require dynamic defense shouldn't be a punishment for MVP (It certainly wasn't for Bonds or Pujols). Is Cabrera a wizard with the glove? No, has his play at first base/third base been detrimental to the Tigers success? No.
Tigers make the playoffs, Miggy should win it. Tigers and Angels both make it or not, let the debate begin.
