2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

He's a bust based on definition. I wouldn't personally call him a "Bust" because he played over 10 seasons as a productive role-player, and the average NBA career length is about 4.5 years.

not many up to their draft status, but they do have long nba careers. usually only a handful of guys will live up to that lottery pick. we be labeling the majority of nba guys a "bust"

We changing the rules for busts?

Evan Turner is indeed a BUST! Had he been picked in the 20s, or 2nd round. He’s a solid contributor. Top 10 picks need to make a few all star games, all-NBAs, or at least have a couple memorable seasons...

I agree with Turner being a bust, but we setting the bar pretty high for top 10 picks. How many top 10 picks in a given year actually even make the all star team?

2010: 4 all stars
2011: 2 all stars
2012: 4 all stars
2013: 1 all star
2014: 1 all star
2015: 3 all stars

I’ll give the more recent draft classes a bit more time, but we looking at 1-4 all stars MAX on average

Right. In that draft you had 22 year old ET go 2nd and then 23 year old Wes Johnson get picked 4th. Stupid. Especially when BGH and WPG go 9th and 10th as 20 year olds.

goes both ways. you also don't want to pass up on guys like kemba and steph because they were juniors for a guys like flynn and brandon knight

Silliness  You have some leeway for a guy who can dribble AND is a special athlete, not elite, but truly a freak athlete, like Wade for example.

Turner wasn’t a freak, Wes couldn’t dribble

Boston used the Pierce TPE to absorb the contracts of Marcus Thornton, Tyler Zeller and a 1st. Flipped that 1st into IT4.

Wouldn't be surprised if they take a similar route. Unless the East seems completely out of reach and they need a more impactful player.

This. The Dunc'd On guys did an analysis of lottery picks and the most likely outcome is becoming a rotational player. This is why I think it's hilarious when we hear these outlandish player comps come draft time "he's a mix of Harden and Dame Lilliard", "this guy's game reminds of me Anthony Davis", etc. Even with a top 5 pick those are unlikely outcomes.

It ain’t just the age when drafting, more so a combo of that and how much improvement the player has to make to be good on the NBA level...If you drafting an older cat high but he needs a couple years of development then that’s not smart, cuz by the time yo figures it out he’ll be Damn near 30 compared to the other prospects

That’s why I didn’t get why everybody had Toppin going so high...Bout to be 23 n still gotta learn how to play defense n develop some type of middle game

Yeah, there's always going to be exceptions but generally that's not even in the top 5 and more so top 10. Guys like Kemba and Steve Curry for example were elite scorers off the dribble. Generally that translates pretty well. Turner and Wes weren't that.
