2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

Its LeBron James. He is the biggest thing in basketball period.

The biggest thing in basketball cares about winning more than anything else right? His brand is already established right? Why wouldn’t he just go to the clippers then?

So the biggest thing in basketball was drawn to the Lakers brand?

He was. Bron is big on legacy talk and standing amongst the greats, and in the context of history, Laker chips have . unique shine to them. I am not going to argue that.

But lets not sit here and act like the Lakers weren't the worst team of the 2010s and they tried to pitch many a player on brand alone with no real plan and it failed miserably. None of what they were doing was working until Bron showed up.

Its not a slight to say that the Laker brand was in the downslide until Bron got there. It was most certainly the case.

Probably kept the surname the same for the sake of the kids.
Got a family friend who's ex wife changed it back to her original surname after they divorced even though both kids have his name, depends on the couple I guess

Laker Brand is why lebron went to LA. You can’t claim **** is dead if it’s the literal reason the best player in the world chose to come to your team.

That brand was established over 30+ years.
Dr Buss deserves more props as one of the best owners in nba history.

Also: the lakers are never given enough credit for how they drafted and cleared the books to make room for 2 (and maybe 3 next summer) max free agents.

The Laker brand was in the downslide in the 2010s is what I said though. I could never argue against the history of it since inception.

Bron got to set up shop with Klutch enterprises in the biggest destination city in the country. He's bigger than the Laker brand. As long as he is still playing at the level he's at, others are going to want to play with him (more so than to be a Laker), especially when it's in Los Angeles instead of Cleveland.

So while the nba fans/media were parading that the brand was dead, the best player in the world decided to come to The lakers because he valued the brand more than anything else.

He could’ve gone to the clippers.
He only cares about winning right? It’s La right?

Or is it he only cares about shooting movies. I forgot.

What they were doing is why Bron showed up
I disagree, the 2010s were terrible for them and nothing of substance came about until Bron got there, but props to the Lakers for failing upward. I've said that time and time again.

I can't speak for other people. Never said the brand was dead. The winningest team in the history of the sport can never lose its branding completely.

I kinda hope Giannis signs that extension because I don’t want to deal with the speculation all season.

I've already fired up the trade machine, even though I don't think the Bucks do it... But they should.

See I don’t think it’s failing forward.

I think it’s 30+ years of building a brand. That’s not “failing forward” that’s reaping the benefits and rewards of your brand.

Drafting like they did in the 2010s isn’t luck. It’s not failing forward. Go look at those draft classes. The hit rates are really good. Those players they drafted have signed for damn near half a billion in nba money.

Clearing the books to have potential cap space for 3 max free agents is not “failing forward”

Could totally be wrong, but I don't know if the Clips had cap space in the summer of 2018? Lakers are definitely a bigger brand than the Clippers. That goes without saying.

Bron is bigger than both though. Like pmatic pmatic said, Bron acquired the Lakers.
