2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

Just because Lebron is bigger than the Lakers doesn’t mean they’re not also one of the most valuable and winningest franchise in sports. The Laker “brand” is huge. There’s no denying that.

just saying lebron’s brand is bigger.

Both can be true

anyways, Malik beasley’s ex girl is better

didn't kobe almost leave the lakers for the clips until mr. west stopped him from going across the hall to play for the racist sterling?

We literally won a chip in 2010. Was a viable playoff team until Bean tore his Achilles was still near or at the top in merchandise sales up until and with his retirement. Most road fans in the league even with the down years, and then Bron came in 2019. So what years was the "brand" actually down? The perception of the front office and the actual on court product was lacking. Even through the perceived missteps there was silver lining (in Kobe's last deal and how Bron factored that into his decision with the way the Show treats its stars).

Lakers were a wasteland after the Kobe extension. Everyone knew that team wasn’t going to compete and that contract was basically tanking without saying it.

Between all the $$ tied into Kobe’s contract, lack of young talent, lack of coaching talent, lack of front office direction and bad ownership... it was ugly. That’s a lot of negatives. Team went through the worst 7 year stretch in team history.

“Laker’s Brand” never died, but the lakers were asking B level stars to come to the Lakers and save us. The reality is nobody wanted that. The task was too monumental and the pressure wouldn’t have been worth it.

However, in that 7 year stretch of straight ***:
- They accumulated young assets (Dlo, BI, Zo, Hart, Clarkson, Randle, Nance, Kuzma, Zubac, Bryant, etc.)
- Fixed their ownership issues
- Fixed the ****ball front office and fixed the cap

Thanks to those shrewd moves, Lebron felt comfortable enough to sign here. He was going to ship the young assets out for a star and then sign old vets / whoever to compete for a ring.

**** worked out for both parties.

not a singular reasonable answer as to why Lebrons brand is Bigger than a multi billion dollar brand that's been around for over half a century, outside of i said so .
Instagram Followers, Facebook Likes, Twitter follows without looking this up I bet Bron has more.

Where is lifelong Laker fan D StaXX D StaXX to make sense of this argument being had?

I'm blasting this Drakeo. :pimp: :pimp: I had to go back and catch up.
As far as Bron being bigger than the Lakers.. I agree with MVP MVP
The franchise is too storied for one man to be bigger. Too many chips won, and too many greats have already cemented the Laker legacy.
I think everyone knows that Lebron is the most important person in the NBA, but there was a mutual benefit with him joining the Lakers.
This sums it up.

There are certain teams that have no real successful history, accomplishments, or all time greats that one could argue that a single player is bigger than a franchise (ie Cleveland or the Clippers). But across the sports world (Lakers, Yankees, used to be Cowboys) there's just an overwhelming amount of all of that that it really is just foolish to suggest that.

Yea they were effectively Knicks status around the time Kobe retired , one of the most valuable franchises in sports but a black hole in terms of on court product.

Dudes were getting passed up for all the top tier FA's each summer until pretty much when Jeanie sent Jim packing to bring respect back to the family name.

After they started making smarter personnel decisions and brought in Magic. That eventually led to the opportunity to get Bron presenting itself now here we are

Especially when you got Magic and Kareem right in his realm and they aren't even THAT.

It's okay, you can say Patriots
