nets gave kd everything he wanted except give unreliable kyrie a longer contract. Their treatment of him was fine.

Darius was drafted there and hes definitely not a superstar. And Lebron was a free agent when he walked outta there to Miami. Im referring to superstars bullying their way out of their contracts, and if a team screws them and doesnt send them to a preferred place, it will then be a problem attracting other superstars to come their way. Its all optics. Thats why teams always cave in..

There arent too many stars in the league and only like a couple teams actually land big free agents. Most stay with their current teams.

Hell Chris Paul signed a 5 year deal or extension with the Clippers in 2013 when Donald Sterling still owned the team.
Without a doubt NBA players have way more say and power than NFL players do. But the Nets playing hardball and not taking a trash deal just to make Kevin Durant happy isn’t going to prevent them from signing talent in the future. That whole narrative is overblown.
If they offer the money and it’s a good fit. No free agent is going to be like “Na I’m not signing with Philly because they were mean to Ben Simmons when he wanted to be traded”. Now they might turn down Philly for other reasons or prefer to play in a different market. But that’s a different story.

You take the best deal possible regardless of where the destination is. If the Lakers and Sacramento both make trade offers for a player and the Laker offer is better, you take the better offer any day of the week over trading them to Sacramento to prove a point. Now if Sacramento makes the best offer, you trade them there and let the chips fall how they may. But you’re not making that move to be petty.
The only exception to this is if the better offer is from a rival team or someone who can be potential direct competition to where you want to move them far away where you don’t have to play against them much.
