2023 Official MLB Season Thread

Happy to hear the shift is most likely gonna be banned. Teams really went overboard with it. My brain was programmed to think a hard hit ball hit right up the middle = hit. That was an out 90% of the time these days

Hard hit balls by a lefty between 2b/1b used to be singles. Now you have 3 guys there and it’s a can of corn. Or even worse, those shallow right field shifts. Looks like my beer league softball games with rover

I need to get Manny Motas autograph. My dad has a pic of him when my dad was a kid. Apparently Manny came to his block to visit and played with the kids.

At this point, I hope and 🙏 the players stay absolutely unified, don't budge an inch, go play overseas or down in Mexico and let the owners rot.

Destroy the entire season. Completely embarrass the owners. Get people to ****ing understand, it has, and always will be the greedy billionaires, NOT the players. Any sport.

Same reason gas is 237 dollars a gallon, some ****head billionaires profiting 147 billion in one year screwing over the entire planet, and people blame gas station owners.

Make MLB owners + Manfred absolutely crumble and BEG the players to come back. 👊

Facts, I would watch tf out of players in international leagues balling out LOL! Would buy merch and everything too.

I agree with you on the players staying put and while many fans side with the players there's always a faction that still call the players entitled and millionaires playing a kids game and the longer this goes...you already know the faction will grow bigger, we've seen it time and time again.

I posted a proposal from the players that actually benefited the owners and the owners still lowballed the Union. Things like that won't go viral because it's too in the details. The average fan just wants baseball, they don't care about the lopsided and disingenuous "negotiations" happening from Owners. They won't want to understand. So players will catch strays no matter how right they are unfortunately

Alot of self interest starts to kick in more and more when people get fatigue. It sucks but hope the players keep their ground

I was listening to a lot of siriusxm in my dad's truck on the drive from MN to WA and I'm getting siriusxm again. The content on the MLB channel was top notch. Heard so much great insight on the matter. Especially from the players' perspective. Lance McCullers Jr. and Trevor May specifically. There was no fluff and it really laid out the perspective of the players, yet they were all still respectful to the negotiations and didn't really specify the details of the owners' demands. It was just really good content.

Folks are about to start mowing grass weekly soon...that typically means you hear a snap of the mitt to go with the smell of freshly cut grass...I just want baseball.

I've watched hundreds of minor league games, I dont even notice the pitch clock and i cant remember a pitch clock violation.
Shift was something i didnt get to see in the minors, but this will help Yordan, so I cant be too mad.
Bigger bases is interesting and is something we prob wont even notice. cuts the running distance down by 1.5 inches to first. not a big deal

Can't always hit the opposite way when they're pitching you to hit to the shift. Not everyone is Derek Jeter and can inside out every pitch.

EDIT- to follow up on that comment, Buster Onley retweeted this:

The whole thing with the WNBA and the chartered flights is why I have zero sympathy for sports teams’ owners

then what‘s going down in Miami with Beckham and the MLS team

And then whenever a labor dispute goes down in any of the major sports how quickly f’d you hear the position points are

even in the damn NFL, seems like some very obvious revenue streams that haven’t fully been explored before getting to adding games.. hell could add an extra bye week to extend the season, which is probably needed anyways

but with MLB, the game is already dying a slow death and these dudes just keep throwing dirt on the grave

dudes all wanna be the biggest champions of capitalism when it comes to them personally UNTIL some shh goes wrong THEN they’re quick to believe in socialism..

and the same shh goes here

This seems like decent movement for the first time and not a troll offer from the league

Probably still a no though

Idk, to me it’s comparable to playing nickel in the nfl on passing downs

Is the offense going to complain that the defense has extra DBs on those downs???

let's goooooo..... no way they're working this late into the night to not get it done by Wed
