Maybe you should consider those 529 plans, but that's more for college I believe.

I read on MyFico forums to get pay for deletes or goodwill deletes given your situation with the hospitalization and car accident. I'd present evidence of hardship to whatever loans you defaulted on and credit card companies you're behind with.

I know this is about credit, but I wanna know you guys thoughts on us savings bonds. Wanna get one for my newborn
Always, always exercise your right to have the collections agency prove the debt is yours.
I have a bill in collections for 600$ from 5 years ago. My credit score is pretty good but I would like to clear this nonetheless. I plan on calling to negotiate to pay a lump sum of 40% of what I owe, I also intend to get a copy of the agreement before I send payment. I have 3 questions.
1. Is the best way to pay via money order?
2. How long until it is cleared from my credit report
3. Anything else I should take into account before calling?
Yes. Never give them direct access to your account. Even a personal check would have your account information on it for them to collect more than the agreed upon amount.

is there a way to prove they received payment? Or is that being overly cautious

ALWAYS get the agreement in writing and keep it around forever.
