24 Looking to build Credit... What are some good tips on your first Credit Card

I need to get my @zyzz on. Anyone plan on applying for any other card ? I got most of them. Let me refer you!

I'm thinking about getting the chase freedom and chase sapphire preferred sometime in the near future. Have a big purchase to make and was looking at the promo bonus points you get with CSP. Couple that with the bonus from chase freedom and since you can transfer your rewards from freedom to the chase ultimate rewards I should be able to get a round trip ticket for me and my lady somewhere out of the country. PM me if there's a referral reward for those and you've got those cards

Thanks to reading this thread a year ago, my score went from a 440 to 700 in 12 mths. I know that's not super high but it let's me know I'm on the right track. I lurk in here a lot, I just wanna thank dudes for dropping knowledge for real, most helpful thread imo in a long time.

:hat that's an incredible jump man congratulations

I know people in here make it seems like 800 is the place to be but 700 is a good credit score.

Anything in the mid 700 is considered excellent and you're basically there.

Congratz :hat

Applied for a Chase Sapphire Preferred and got approved! feels good man

Couldn't believe the credit limit they gave me though. $10k :eek
my highest credit line before that was $1,800 from my discover it card and they recently just bumped it from $1,500

First year has no annual fee, $95 after that

No lo quiero.

I got a free round trip flight to Peru with the sign-on bonus they offer. Sapphire is my main card, 95$ will be worth it when my first year is up.

Sapphire is my main card as well. 95$ annual fee is worth it if you travel often imo. I can't remember the last time I booked a flight not using points. That 20% off is too nice.

Yea that's what I'm going to aim for. I may close the card before they charge the $95 depending on if I'll earn enough to make the fee negligible. I don't fly often (once a year) so it may not yield enough rewards to outweigh the fee. I'll probably see if I can talk to a rep and get them to lower the fee when I say I'm going to cancel the card or something

Question about the ultimate rewards, is it just like an online booking marketplace? Kinda like Expedia or the likes but just using the chase points and getting the 20% discount? Do you think booking through the ultimate rewards marketplace is better than transferring points to a frequent flier program?

Yeah, it's just like an online booking marketplace. Search flights as you would on those Expedia like platforms. It will show you the retail price of the flight and the discounted price in points. Only catch is you need to have enough points to get the discounted price. IE the flight you want to book is $100, it would be 8,000 points (which equals to 80 dollars) to book. If you have less than 8,000 points, it gives you the option to pay the remaining balance with your card but at the $100 price.

I think it is better to book through the ultimate rewards marketplace since your points are worth more, however I've never inquired about transferring my points so I'm not sure if there is a better value out there.

If you ask nicely, you can get annual fees waived.

This is true or they'll offer you a way to earn bonus points. I've read it's really hard to get the Chase Sapphire preferred fee waived though. I tried a few times myself and nada.

Citi will bend over backwards for you. They waived the fee on my premier card and gave me offers to earn bonus points.
