PEMDAS is actually

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication AND Division, Addition AND Subtraction.

So when it comes to MD and AS, it's whatever comes first left to right.

48/2(9+3)

48/2(12)

48/2 x 12

LEFT TO RIGHT BECAUSE OF MD BEING INTERCHANGEABLE IN THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS

24 x 12 = 288

to solve this problem, you solve it in this order

1. 48/2 = 24; this leaves 24(9+3)
2. multiply 24 by 9 = 216
3. multiply 24 by 3 = 72
4. leaves (216+72) = 288

you can even do 24(12) and still get 288
