Air Jordan 11 Space Jam-December 10, 2016-$220

Actually increasing profit margins would be using fake patent that doesn't have white edging when it's cut. Oh wait, that's what they did. And that's why the 45 PE has higher cut patent and white edging on the patent.
Fake Patent leather is 100% confirmed?

How does white edge have an impact on the profit margin. Maybe a few pennies here or there?

Well here is my theory.

Jordan brand comes along and develops a strong brand identity. The jumpman always faces right on all new releases. Let's say that started 10 years ago.

Then retros come out and it's time to retro the 11. Jordan brands identity is the jumpman logo always faces right. However the left shoe was designed by Tinker with the jumpman facing left or towards the toes.

As you know what we got was a left facing jumpman that allowed for a patent leather cut that ran high on the shoe.

Then Jordan's new branding says on the retro we need to face right because that is our brand standards. The jumpman always faces right. In doing so we get a logo that was flipped. The arm now comes to the back of the shoe. A leg that flips down more and is in the way of the original higher cut of patent leather.

Here is a great example someone had shown above. As you can see, the jumpmans leading leg would be right in the way of the original patent cut.

So that's why we have a lower cut of patent on previous retros. You may ask well why was the jumpman facing right on the bottom sole? Well a change for that would require more tooling and money. So pass, Jordan decides to leave a jumpman facing left on the bottom sole.

Ok the patent leather quality. Let's look at a close up of the Concord images above. What do you see?

Look at the right side.. It's the white line.

Folks it's not just a white line. That is raw leather. Real leather. Real leather isn't white on the inside. It's not red or black. It has texture. What your seeing on the 45 space jam retro is real patent leather.

Two years ago Jordan entered into this remaster program. All materials and craftsmanship are supposed to be closer to the original. The design of the 72-10 was already being decided and done before the remaster program started technically. So what do you get? The same low cut patent, right facing jumpmans and low cost patent quality. Now the 45 space jam PE is being developed under the Remaster program. The whole premise is better materials. Low and behold, the raw edge of the patent is back. So it's safe to say, the previous retro 11s were using low quality patent -or- fake patent leather.

I believe it was common knowledge that every mid 11 produced after the DMPs had fake patent leather.

:rolleyes

Some of you really ought to be defense attorneys...

You did say it was just your theory, but the idea that HAD TO lower the patent to turn the jumpman around is  to me, it makes no sense to alter the most prominent design characteristic of a shoe to flip a jumpman. Just face it... less material, less cost, more profit.

It makes perfect sense.

Don't bother, they aint hearing that. Ive tried to explain this numerous times. This is the Jordan thread with the youngest demographic, they don't know any better. When they feel that robust patent for the first time they'll understand.

Lol they can use real patent latter and still paint the outline black to match the rest of the shoe.

Sorry but all that evidence doesnt really convice at all.

Lol y'all are funny man. Dudes theory actually makes a valid point and makes sense to me. You have to make room for that front leg on the JM logo going the opposite direction towards the back of the shoe. The original design had the jumpman naturally jumping toward the front of the shoe over the pl hump. Thus making more room for the pl height on both the right AND the left shoe. Makes too much sense actually. Some of y'all have less than grade school comprehension to laugh at that theory.

Repped.

So when they changed the direction of the jumpman they also started using fake leather? Also just because the white line is present does that really mean is real good quality leather? It could be just for aethestetics and pleasing the older crowd. Its fun to talk about but none of yall know anything we just fans of a product. Its not like the shoe comes with a list of materials it wa made withon the side of the box like the ingredients to soda or cereal. And what happens when we get this new shoe in hand and the leather aint robust? "But it has a white line"??? Wtff

This is really the only answer. It's well thought out and blatantly obvious. It's absurd to think that they lowered the pl cut in an effort to save money. That small difference in material is insignificant. There are much more practical ways to cut costs.

Thanks for the informative post. Although Durabuck shoes also carry a white edge. That is a synthetic material. Although, they might have applied it to mock real nubuck. Although in that case synthetic materials are way better because when it comes to suede real leather gets ashy real quick.
Fake patent leather? As opposed to real patent leather?

Does that come from shiny cows?
Am I missing something? Cows don't come in BRED colorway either but we have real leather shoes that do. Patent leather can be real leather. Its just in the finish and treatment of the leather.

Nike's costs into these shoes are trivial for retooling or remoudling. In fact I doubt Nike even worries one bit about this. They don't own factories they contract their work out to extremely competitive factories who would do anything for Nike contracts. This means Nike dictates whatever terms they want and even if the overall costs go up a little. They are absolutely trivial. Take the 72-10 for example. Nike sold 500k pairs of those. Now, assuming a $100 profit per shoe which is a pretty conservative, estimated profit = $50 Million off one release. Nike although slow as hell does listen to consumer demands and again very slowly does respond and leaves a little for the future. I always said competition from other brands could get Nike to respond to consumer demands faster and now that adidas is having a moment and Nike customers sick of retro releases that don't live up to OGs there is more heat on Nike to attract new and keep old consumers.

still got NDS from 2000
