I noticed that too...It seems like it was a tweak to the whole toe area they made as the season went on...Like they reinforced the whole toe area...Even the toe box itself looks more bulky...
Early pairs he wore were normal...

Yes, Zion's PE's are indeed different.
Jordan Brand made him a cast of his foot/custom mold & conducted heavy research with him upon his signing. His pairs also have different padding, reinforced side panels, a stronger eclipse plate & custom insole units along with what the outrigger mentioned in your post.
They wanted to ensure they minimize the chance of him busting out the shoe like the Duke PG fiasco.
