Send Amare to Cleveland ... They'll take on any salary to lure players to play there
Who would we get back in return?
I hate to say this, but it looks like Amare is staying with us for another 2 years. He keeps getting hurt and that's not helping us one bit. We do need a better penetrator, but we'll have to make due with what we have. Also, with the new CBA tax rates that's going to come in a few years--Dolan or any other owner won't have the pockets to keep up a stacked roster. Just look at what some teams did in anticipation of the luxury tax. Teams like OKC and Memphis all bowed out and gave up key players, because the fiscal monetary repercussions were too great.
I made a post about this kind of thing and the how the Heat won't be able to keep the "Super Friends" roster for much longer. The tax burden is just too great. $3 for every $1 a team is over the cap? A player making $25 million could cost a team almost a $100 million in taxes
Dan Gilbert, Michael Jordan, and Michael Kohl all got what they wanted. Stacked rosters will be a thing of the past, or extremely rare to come by in a few years. Only way to hedge against that would be to sign players for much less and for short-tern contracts. Kobe and MJ will be the last players in NBA history to get $30+ million a year.
The only owner that I could see paying that kind of money is Prokhorov, but they wouldn't do us that favor. In order to make a splash, we'd have to get expiring contracts in return.
We're stuck with this team till 2014.
My real concern is when guys like KMart and Kidd leave the team. We're going to have to find a way to replace those guys and thats tough to come by. JR is going to want at least $8 million a year for 4-5 years. Kmart is going to want more than the minimum, I think $2 million a year is fair for him. And let's not forget about Camby. Dude is owned around another $8 million after this season. Unless he decides to retire and agrees to a buyout, his contract will hold us back too. Our window is closing and this might be the last year we can really make a splash. We're playing for now and we should, because I don't think we'd be able to have this roster is the next 2 years.
Anyone know what the 2015 free agency class looks like? That's the year we're relieved of Melo, STAT and Tyson. We'll have some serious cap room by then.
