and we're done

Send Amare to Cleveland ... They'll take on any salary to lure players to play there

Who would we get back in return?

I hate to say this, but it looks like Amare is staying with us for another 2 years. He keeps getting hurt and that's not helping us one bit. We do need a better penetrator, but we'll have to make due with what we have. Also, with the new CBA tax rates that's going to come in a few years--Dolan or any other owner won't have the pockets to keep up a stacked roster. Just look at what some teams did in anticipation of the luxury tax. Teams like OKC and Memphis all bowed out and gave up key players, because the fiscal monetary repercussions were too great.

I made a post about this kind of thing and the how the Heat won't be able to keep the "Super Friends" roster for much longer. The tax burden is just too great. $3 for every $1 a team is over the cap? A player making $25 million could cost a team almost a $100 million in taxes :{

Dan Gilbert, Michael Jordan, and Michael Kohl all got what they wanted. Stacked rosters will be a thing of the past, or extremely rare to come by in a few years. Only way to hedge against that would be to sign players for much less and for short-tern contracts. Kobe and MJ will be the last players in NBA history to get $30+ million a year.

The only owner that I could see paying that kind of money is Prokhorov, but they wouldn't do us that favor. In order to make a splash, we'd have to get expiring contracts in return.

We're stuck with this team till 2014.

My real concern is when guys like KMart and Kidd leave the team. We're going to have to find a way to replace those guys and thats tough to come by. JR is going to want at least $8 million a year for 4-5 years. Kmart is going to want more than the minimum, I think $2 million a year is fair for him. And let's not forget about Camby. Dude is owned around another $8 million after this season. Unless he decides to retire and agrees to a buyout, his contract will hold us back too. Our window is closing and this might be the last year we can really make a splash. We're playing for now and we should, because I don't think we'd be able to have this roster is the next 2 years.

Anyone know what the 2015 free agency class looks like? That's the year we're relieved of Melo, STAT and Tyson. We'll have some serious cap room by then.

so does anyone think that amnesty option on amare will be discussed since his contract is uninsurable . It makes sense but it is hell of cold blooded being that his signing here was what brought the knocks back to respectability IMO.

We used our amnesty. We have a 2 year window after this year.

Formula = Keep our core + add pieces through draft until 2015

Edit-**** all nighters

I really hope J.R Stays, He loves it here but wouldnt blame him if he did leave for the $ - I think there will be some desperate teams out there with big cap space that will throw money at him

We're stuck with Amar'e. He isn't going anywhere unless we move him as an expiring contract. At that point he'll be a pretty good asset depending on what's out there.

EDIT: Where's everyone watching the game tonight?8o

I will NEVER fault a player for going after the money so if it ends up happening, I'll wish JR good luck and bid adieu.

Let's get this win though.

Duh, we're trading Amar'e for Irving. Sheesh, thought you guys knew about that already.

Yeah I'm considering J.R. gone at this point. He'd be a fool to not cash out, he's pretty much entered his prime.

For Game 2 I'm expecting a bigger contribution from K.G. on the offensive side, which means Kenyon has to be out there. Who knows if Tyson will be any good even after two days rest. We probably won't throw Barron out there seeing as he's just a bench filler. We signed about 4 PFs and still have frontcourt problems :lol

If I had as much money as Dolan, I wouldnt give a damn about the Luxury Tax. The man is raping us every time we turn on our TV. :lol

If the Knicks win a title, he gets the money back four fold.

Dolan doesn't care about spending money. Nobody can fault him for that.
Yup. That's the only thing I appreciate him. If he has the right guy in charge, the possibilities are endless. Money is no object for the Knicks.

Cap rules will restrict us this summer, though.

We had our chance to amnesty Amar'e.

We shoulda kept Chompsy instead. We didn't. I'm over it.
And not got Tyson?
8o......amnesty Amar'e instead of Chompsy.

We were right to pick up his option year, cuz we didn't know Tyson would be available.

Sign Tyson.

Let Chompsy walk or take less.

Have plenty of cap space summer 2012 to do whatever.

...

We mighta ended with Lin and Nash instead of Felton and Kidd, doe. :x

It's w/e.

Boomer and Carton brought up a scenario where Amare should just retire or let the Knicks structure a deal for a buyout. That'd be great, we'd be able to get out salary cap back.

But Amare won't do, I'm sure he thinks he can play and wants the full guaranteed money. Even tho he lies and hides his injuries. :{

No doubt if we had the cap space, Chris Paul would come here instead of signing back with LAC. But what are you gonna do.

I don't think his money comes off the cap in a buyout. We're stuck. All we can hope for is Amar'e coming back and being a good contributor off the bench like he was this year. Only two more years left after this season right? And in the last year, some teams will be dying to trade for that huge expiring.

I still have faith in Amar'e though. Hope he can get it together and stay relatively healthy.

I have faith in him too, I think we could def use Amare right now in the playoffs. But the injuries man, just such a blow back.
