As I am going through my hipster phase I am at the "old school" part. I've been wondering about trying my hand at using a straight blade. Anyone have one or have any experienced with it?

I would suggest a safety razor, rather than straight razor. Straight razor is usually reserved for a barber or someone to do it for you. You can of course do it yourself, but I'd suggest a double edge razor instead.

Here's an article that's a great how-to/starting point for safety razors

And if you insist on using a straight... http://artofmanliness.com/2009/10/06/how-to-straight-razor-shave/

Edit: your OP proves my point, it's a picture of someone getting a shave, not doing it himself. Start out with safety razors and then go up to straight if you still feel like it.

yes, but I mainly use it to shape my beard up, when I have it. copped from Sally's beauty supplies

def cuts closer than what they use at the barber shop.

JUST DON'T SLICE SIDEWAYS as you look into the mirror!
if you're going to shave, I have a disposable I do first, str8 razor after

I always use one to shave and shape up my beard and hairline. It takes a while to perfect using it on yourself but once you do it gives you the closest possible shave which takes a little bit longer to grow back than shaving with a mach 3 or something else.
