Asian Culture Discussion Thread

This!

Remember when Lin got dreadlocks and then wanted to seriously debate people that wanted to have the cultural appropriation argument? 🤣

He could have just sat that one out but that’s not him. He’s usually wasting energy fighting the wrong battles.

Remember when Kenyon Martin who has chinese character tattoos called him out

what a dweeb

This may be a sensitive issue but as a Taiwanese American, the one thing that does bother me about Eddie is his reference to himself as Chinese-Taiwanese-American and his refusal to be outspoken against China's treatment to Taiwan. I get it, our ancestors came from China. But my ancestors fled China due to civil war and their refusal to embrace communism and found a better life in Taiwan, it feels like a slap in the face when he embraces a place where the government's philosophy go against his own.

He touches on this in episodes of Huang's World where he goes back to Taiwan. He tries to remain in the middle but fail to realize Taiwanese culture in 2020 is very very very different to China's culture.

My Family, his family and your family from same boat-Mainland Chinese from Taiwan. I’m older than he is, he’s prob older than you. I posted up news articles that discussed this very specific phenomenon some time back.
No real answer. Tough discussion for all.

China CCP government are scumbags, what else is new.

They kill their own citizens and take over lands that’s not theirs (nine dash line)......you can’t be surprised by this.

Funny, no regulars and casuals here direct from China. Generations or more removed. Didn’t realize we responsible for foreign government actions.

News was posted, discussed, and condemned before. Here and in Virus Thread. Easy to remember if around and not banned.

I consider it a bit of an identity issue. I'm not sure if Eddie what his feelings are towards the government, but I think he sees the culture as a part of his own Taiwanese heritage.

Found the news article from previous post that touched on the specific topic. Bit outdated but info still relevant and interesting. Based on Personal observation and experience, can relate a bit to Eddie Huang’s line of belief. Not good or bad, but understand.

We are approximately 10 percent of the total population. Roughly 2 million solders and civilians escaped to ROC after civil war defeat. Taiwan is over 95% Han Chinese (Hoklo, Hakka, “Mainland” Waishengren). 2.3% are Taiwanese aborigines.

Here is a good news article that shows the different generations reflection on self identity:

Time to get your head out of a-z-z, Chief.

I moved back to nyc so I can be around my parents. Installed cameras around their place. I find myself stressed when I see them going out. I accompany them most of the time. The times that I can't, I make sure to find out where they're going and hope nothing bad happens to them..

Mainstream media and social media today only show a sliver of what goes on. Rarely are any of the attacks ever reported. My small circle of friends alone has heard of 10+ physical attacks in nyc this year that were not reported to authority or shared on social media. It is only shared within the community. The younger victims just brush it off. The older victims don't want to be a nuisance or fear retaliation for reporting.

It really pisses me off when I see individuals that truly believe that Asian Americans and Asians in America have never experienced racism and can't possibly be victims of it now. Nothing will ever lead them to believe otherwise. I've learned to not waste any more of my time with these delusional idiots.

if it was said, guaranteed other teammates on the court heard it. gonna need nico mannion or jordan poole to speak up
Also, Jeremy Lin has made powerful connections in Beijing. President Xi will get the scrub kidnapped and ran over with a tank at Tianamen Square. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mofo owes Jeremy his life. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If Jeremy Lin identifies who called him Coronavirus then people would call him a snitch.

Unlikely. He’s not even in the NBA anymore. His 15 min got extended and it appears that time is finally up.
