Asian Culture Discussion Thread

oh I'm not saying there isnt an a number of women like that. I just stating my opinion on the matter as a whole.
Everyone is allowed their personal preferences. I for one am attracted to black women.
But if the girl says that she exclusively do not date asians, then thats a whole other topic.

You must be triggered by me saying that some people dont like asian being asian. Sounds like youre one of them.

Low effort trying to gaslight with a out of context post from 2020. Im sure @Methodical Management doesnt have the search function and can’t read the posts above mine and cant see that im clearly not defending hitler. Stay mad.

Did you need help tagging me in your response?

You have a long record of gaslighting and trolling. Should Meth use the search function in the Hinge thread too?

I'm actually triggered by the fact that you're still here allowed to dog whistle.

I don't have issues with self hatred like you assumed.

Wholeheartedly agree.

But thats not what my argument is. Lets not pretend that theres not a growing issue of self hate within our community, especially from the women.
There's self hate within every community, many times you'll hear it come out in sets for stand up comedians. In the point you're trying to make though, I don't want to just assume it's Asian anchorwomen's self hate that pushes them to marry white. We're all a product of the environment we are in. So for an Asian anchorwoman she was likely surrounded by Caucasian people for a good number of years. ..journalism school for X amount of years, interning at a news station for a year or so, then landing a job where her counterparts happen to be predominantly white. It's not hard to come to the conclusion that this woman, in particular, was around mostly white people since the age of 18. So is it self hate? Possibly. Or is it assimilation? It's also possible.

We can sit here all day and come up with a million scenarios. No diss but you're being way too passive with the school excuse. Tell me, why does your theory not apply to black anchorwoman?

Theres not an issue with calling it like you see it. We're all too familiar with turning a blind eye within our community. Its really not a coincidence.

Not here to sway anyones judgement. You're free to view things from your own perspective. Just brining up an issue that people choose to be oblivious/naive to. If you dont think being deemed inferior from your own kind is a problem, you're part of the issue.

Nobody here is oblivious/naive to the issue of self hate. You saying she married white is coming from self hate is not fact, that’s a narrow minded opinion that lacks objectivity. 71% of the journalistic demographic is white, followed by 12% Latino, then under 9% after that. It’s not hard to believe that being surrounded by white people she would marry (surprise!) a white man.

I have a friend who dated my best friend back in high school. They are both Filipino. After a couple of years they broke up and she later found another boyfriend, who happened to be Filipino. She dated him for a while and then after they broke up she had another boyfriend who happened to be Filipino. She was studying to be a doctor and the third boyfriend was serving in the Air Force. The long distance relationship didn’t last forever and they eventually broke it off. When she went to med school she met a guy who became her fiancé, and that guy happens to be white. Would you call her happy ending self-hate?

Also, I never said the theory doesn’t apply to black women. But if you want to go into that:

- Sage Steele married a white guy
- Danyelle Sargent married a white guy ( Eric Musselman)
- Cari Champion says she dates white guys because black men expect too much of her
- Robin Robert’s’ partner is white
- Tamron Hall’s husband is white

Are those all self hate?

What does that journalism statistic has to do with anything? Their dating options arent only limited to their place of employment. A majority of work places are white because a majority of this country is white, so with your theory a majority of us should have white spouses right? Terrible assessment.

Again not sure why you brought up your friend when she clearly doesnt have an issue dating someone from her own race.

Not once have I said people should only date within their kind.
Im all for interracial dating.
Im not for purposely demeaning your own kind.

honestly i dont recognize most of those black anchors you mentioned, compile a list of black female anchors with black spouses and itll tower over your list.

9/10 asian females in the entertainment industry with white spouses is not a coincidence.

This is a completely dismal understanding of the evidence that combats your theory. You’re hell bent on insisting it MUST BE self hate without any evidence to support that notion. Good day to you, see you in the boxing thread.

Just very weird to specifically attack female Asian news anchors and assume they have self hate issues for marrying white guys. Maybe it's a trend but we really shouldn't be caring who people choose to marry or assume it's because of something negative.

Prolly one of the best episodes Vox has done. I encourage yall to watch it.

As an immigrant and a photojournalist, it breaks my heart that Dorothea Lange’s images were “impounded” because it showed the atrocities of Roosevelt’s executive order. I grew up not being able to get a chance to learn about the sufferings Japanese-Americans endured in the 40s, and I hope schools teach more about it for the younger generation.

The US gov. straight took property from the Japanese American citizens on the west coast. Most if not all returned to their homes after the war with white people living in their homes.

Not surprised a lot of the Japanese Americans chose to return to Japan after the war.

Asian Americans suffered so much in the history of America, but are still labeled as "other" or "model minority" when it's convenient or when it fits a narrative.

Makes me wonder how German- Americans were feeling at the time....or how do the subsequent American born generations of the "Axis" countries feel about WW2.

Which leads to the question or topic of debate...how do they (we) feel today?

Curious to know if any our various Asian Americans here feel fully assimilated, or separate from their "motherland" heritage. Read: Have you ever separated yourself from "fobs"?

Someone asked me the question, why do you feel the need to be "Korean American" not just "American"?

Interestingly, some Koreans will say to me....but you're American so we understand.

Yet others will say, "But, you are still Korean....so you should be.....xyz"

Always an interesting place to discuss such things....as I'm finally watching Marco Polo on NF, and perplexed regarding the various "accents" each character has :emoji_thinking:.

Didn't know Marco Polo was skilled in Kung Fu. That said, didn't know anything about him to begin with...

That show was funny for the wrong reasons, most of it due to the typical “white guy joins an ethnic group and eventually becomes better than them at everything” path the show took.

Marco Polo, who was historically an intelligent merchant and explorer, somehow also became an expert martial artist, genius military strategist/engineer, one of the most desirable bachelors in the Mongol empire, etc. I was fully expecting him to become a khan himself at the rate the show was going

Times Square is absolutely disgusting and dangerous. The homeless situation is out of control there. You would think they would be more on point because it's Times Square but nope.

RIP

This is my homie’s sister. I can’t even start to imagine how their family is doing. I’ve only met her a handful of times but she was always very warm and caring, as is the entire family.

Just devastating.
