anyone here have experience living in Boston?

whats the asian community like over there?

I live north of Boston. Sort of grew up here since I moved a lot way back, but now I’ve settled so far.

Tbh, it’s a toss-up. I have a lot of friends in the city, and they like living there granted that they’re in their late-20s and enjoy the city life, especially with their jobs. Anywhere beyond the city tends to get “quirky” with some of the residents and unless there’s some type of engagement, it’s more of a “mind your business” type of steez, and the seasons DEFINITELY AFFECT A LOOOOOTTTT OF PEOPLE’S MOODS so yeah. Play everything by ear .

The way I interact with my fellow Asian brethren is through basketball so we link up from time-to-time, and even sometimes drive up to NH to play ball . The Asian community here is pretty solid but it’s just not as diverse compared to NY/DC or any of the warmer states. Lots of Pinoy nurses here lmao (my mom being one).

Yeah, I know a few Filipinos that went to Boston University. Heard everything closes early there, regarding nightlife.

I’m a minority, nightlife sucks, no diversity and the overall vibe is kinda wack. Plus I hate their sports teams

You planning to move up there to live or to just visit. TWO major different things / experience.

Got a job offer for a really good company.

Hesitant bc it's I'm Boston though and a lot of reviews don't seem to be positive for poc
I'd do it. Get the experience living somewhere new along with the job experience.

where will you be moving from?

I've been to boston a handful of times to visit homies and i've enjoyed every visit. I was going to move out to cambridge for grad school but the pandemic threw that out the window. It's definitely no where near as diverse as where I grew up but I think if you have a pre-existing community of friends or network in the area, even if small, you'll be fine.

Congrats!

Try visiting the city if you’re able to. It could be a worthwhile experience. I’m sure you’ve heard a bunch of stories from other people and trust me, it’s a lot of moving parts. I can guarantee you that It’s definitely not any of the southern states where you see confederate flags or some other ****.

Live here now. Been here for a few years.
Boston is still very white compared to other major cities like LA, Chicago, NYC. There's a relatively small Chinatown but I don't feel like there's a big Asian American "presence" here, at least nothing like LA/NYC. If you look relatively young people will assume you're here to study. Boston does have a Taiwanese-American major right now Michelle Wu though. I enjoy it here, although Boston is a bubble within the state. MA as a whole is red leaning, where Boston is very blue. Your perspective on it will vary a lot depending on where you move from. If I wasn't living in Boston I probably wouldn't be in New England, the whole vibes of New England really isn't my thing. I much prefer NYC over everything.

DM me if you got any questions brother.
