Knee Surgery.

Wanted to share my story with you guys and get some help.

Background,
On March 30 2015 I had knee surgery. Something happened where I could not put any weight on my left leg. Doctors said I had fluid and needed an emergency surgery. Turned out the fluid I had was infected.

Between 2015 and 2017, my life was a complete mess. I went from be able to do a whole bunch of activities (like running, jogging, walking etc) to barely able to walk a block before my knee went out.

May 2016 I was in a car accident. A car hit me on my passenger side and ended up throwing my knee into the driver door. Went to PT and saw a couple of doctors. One of the doctors was an orthopedic specialist and said he can help me out. But before he can help me, the case needed to be closed. Case finally closes in December 2017 and we begin to work on my knee.

March 30 2017 I have my second knee surgery. Doctor said it was a success. He ended up taking out what he calls "HOFFAS FAT PAD" and other miscellaneous items floating around my knee. These items were part of the reason my knee would lock and give out. I begin to recover and I noticed Im eating all kinds of crap while not able to move a lot. One week after my surgery, my wife and I decide to start being a healthy family. We begin cooking healthy, eating 6 times a day and control our portions.

That same week my PT begins. All is well until late June. My physical therapist wanted me to do some leg press on a machine. I do 100 lbs. and I think I did great. This happened on a Monday, Tuesday evening I couldnt put weight on my left leg again. Turns out, my joints released Fluid. 65 CCs of fluid

Doctor said I now have a staff infection and need to stop PT immediately. He also put me on two different antibiotics. Now Im back to walking with a crutch and limping.

Fast forward to August 25 (TODAY), Im able to walk without a limp but I still cannot run or walk for a long period of time. Since my second surgery, I ve lost nearly 60 pounds
Picture on the left was taken in July 2016, we were celebrating my wifes birthday. Picture on the left was taken in July 2017. Ironically I was wearing the same shirt (its now a beater) because I had gone to physical therapy.

ALL THIS WEIGHT WAS LOST JUST ON EATING HEALTHY. Very and I mean very minimal exercise was done.

The help I need from you experts is,
What kind of exercises can a guy like me (who cant do much cardio), do to tone up and continue losing weight?
I mainly want to lose this excess skin and tone it up.

What I cant do:
Push ups, planks, Run, squats, lunges, jumping, walk for a long time

What I can do:
Walk for about a mile (I try to this 4-5 times a week)
Anything upper body
Bicycle
Swimming

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Congrats playboy ( no pun intended). Even though I do want to know if you are still dj'ing pron star parties.

I ain't an expert but I would say work on your upper body. Do a lot of back/abdominal excercises as well. Cutting the weight was a really great thing.

I'm a swimmer. And I believe it's the best total body workout. Your legs will actually become stronger if you dedicate yourself to swimming. Your whole body will transform.

Keep it up homie. Respect.

Respek op.

Kayaking is great for muscles and cardio if you know how to do it.

Or if you want to.

as long as your on a caloric deficit, you will lose weight.

I think to get rid of excess skin you gotta have it removed but i may be wrong. Someone correct me if i am

The skin can be tightened with muscle gain unless it's really excessive.

*I should say strength training.

Glad you're ok man. No idea about exercises so I'll leave that to someone else

I'm no expert, but if it were me i would start with walking outside, and hitting the rowing machine (or getting out in the kayak) and bike at the gym.

Edit: congrats on the weight loss though. Sounds like you created some good eating habits for yourself, that is the hardest part imo. Now just start working on those exercising habits and life will only get better.

yoga... Do DDP Yoga (diamond dallas page, yes then wcw due).

Do p90x Yoga...

You will be sweating balls in your living room without moving.

Might sound super simple but gym and lift, even if its light. I lost 50lbs a couple years ago and toned everything up without lifting super heavy (in relation to what im capable of).

Most important thing is whatever the workout just be consistent.

Sounds like swimming is the answer for you. I wouldn't do anything which risks your knee so would avoid cycling and even some lifting. Swimming is a great workout and totally safe.

Congrats.

- Rowing
- Walking on a treadmill, medium pace with a sever incline. I use 14% at 3.4mph while holding on with hands for 10 minutes, you'll be drenched

Damn bro you look so different now.
Keep it up. I remember you guys were doing the juice cleanse too I believe.
Hope your knee gets better soon. My uncle had the same problem for a couple of years.

Heres the problem with swimming. Upper body movement is good. When it comes to peddling with my legs, my left leg (the bad one) feels like I have a weight attached to it. I cant peddle as fast as I can with the right side. It doesnt feel like Im drowning, it feels like I need to hold on to the wall a lot more.

Thanks bro. We did juicing and it was a great way to lose quick weight. The only problem was that I didnt know how to eat after. I ended up gaining majority of the weight back in less than a year. With this new eating habit, Im able to eat actual food and I dont feel like Im starving myself. Also found out that a lot of the fruit has a lot of natural sugar. SUGAR= NO BUENO.

My doctors said it can take about 2 years or more to fully feel recovered. Its been 2 years since my first surgery and I feel a lot better. Still have pain but it only gets to me at night when I rest it. I taught my self to not let the pain control my life. I now pay very minimal attention to the pain during the day. At night, I ice if needed.

Looking good, man. Keep it up. Hoping you fully recover and gain full mobility in your knee again.

djaward djaward have you tried using one of those foam "boards" in the pool and holding on to it and just using your legs to swim? That may be a good way to strengthen your leg muscles without actually having to push weight like on a leg press.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it this past weekend. My left leg is so weak, I cant peddle correctly. Feels like a weight is attached to my ankle. I will continue trying it out though. Knee felt sore after but a good sore. Thanks again.
