I was also irrationally bothered when, after she poured the coffee, a bit of it spilled down her mug and onto the countertop.
Naturally, Howard wiped it up.

I guess the scene was meant to make us feel a bit sorry for him, but I guess we don't know what really happened between them and why she's so... indifferent (?)... towards him now. Maybe he was the one at fault?

I disagree. Dude wasn't about that life and clearly wanted answers as to why Lalo was tryna kill him.

Should he have killed Lalo? Absolutely.
But that wasn't his character.

Yea the Vet said that the drug or substance won't bother you much if you drink coffee. Saul knew Howard didn't drink coffee.
