The senate ask for the UAW (united auto workers) union to take a huge pay cut that they knew that they could not take, to push for the BIG 3 not to get thegovernment bailout loan.....

Senator Shelby is a joke....

we are going to lose at least one auto company before the end of the month....this recession is going to get even worse and get ready for the stock market tofall big time tomorrow....

thanks congress for letting huge American companies fail, and basically supporting foreign auto makers.....what a joke!!

at you and the failure of the bail out bail out

what are you tlakingabout?

In America, if something sucks they should go out of business. And what is so American about GM Ford and Chrysler.

They outsourced millions of jobs overseas.

And I don't recall the government bailing out Toyota and Honda, why? Because they don't need it.

^^ Where are you from?

Edit- NYC... If you lived in the midwest your opinion might be a little different.

^^^thats funny, the American auto industry has to cut costs at every turn to compete with foreign auto makers due to the fact that foreign auto makers donthave unions and the overall lower standard of work environment...if Toyota had to provide the same things for their workers as Ford and GM do, your Lexus wouldcost 10-15k more....

and both foreign auto companies you mentioned were at one point financially helped by their native countries.......

They are also not american companies. Obviously they make a large portion of their american exported cars here which is why i would advocate thebig 3 (or big 2 letting chrysler die) survive in a downsized more focused form. ie less brands...less models..some jobs will be lost but many will survive astoyota and honda expand to meet demand

I also agree with the senate in rejecting this...at this poiunt without signficant restructuring (i'd advocate a prearragened bankruptcy or goverment DIP)their legacy costs business model are just too bad to survive.

Honestly their labor costs aren't significant;y higher, the quality of vechiles aren't that inferior (although perception may be worse)

So they UAW got to pick between a pay cut or no paycheck and chose no paycheck. hmmm...

its funny that you mentioned unions and ironically unions were the one responsible for killing the bill

I dont think FDR had this in mind for Unions when it was originally drawn out....Or did he...

If you can't run your business well enough to turn a profit, you should go out of business... that's the rule for most businesses. The "big3" shouldn't be given special treatment - neither should any of the companies included in the big bank bailout. Bailouts in general areaanti-capitalist, socialist, non-conservative ways of giving unfair treatment to those that run big companies.

Good riddance.

i agree

this is not only going to hit the US hard...its going to hit the world markets hard as well.....we are talking about adding 2% to our unemployment (people whocan no longer buy goods), and tired suppliers for all (foreign and domestic) auto manufactures will be going out of business....

I would bet that as we see stock markets across the world open that we will see a significant fall in all of their numbers.....

steel is going to get hit, PPG is going to take a huge hit, dupont is going to take huge hit.......this is bigger than just the midwest and detroit...

It's nice to see that money won't be wasted on auto companies waiting to collapse. The big three did this to themselves, and if they wanna turn thingsaround, they should stop thinking that people want American cars and take measures like Hyundai

How about actually making cars that provide more bang for the buck like the Genesis?

What about the thousands who are destined to lose their jobs because of management's mistakes?

That's what I don't like.

%*+%#$* union people. they really piss me off when it comes to the auto industry. hey butt holes you dont deserve 50k for assembling a car.

Stop while your ahead, like the Big 3, your replies are a losing battle.

Why even try to sit here and justify the Big 3 when they are at fault for what is occuring and then argue in the UAW advantage when they kill the bill? Youdon't see Honda, Toyota, Nissan asking the government for a blank check?
