Everybody thinks their kid is going to the league and they great sports parents so they can’t accept any type of failure from the kids

Youth sports is more of a business/lotto ticket than it was in the past so that’s why folks operating a bit differently these days…Do everything but accept the youngin just might not be it, can’t give up on the dream

It's asinine because college coaches aren't going to care. They're going to find a kid who can produce and do what they need to win.

I'm not saying the kid should quit or give up their dreams but if your child isn't performing and you're told why. Believe it.

It works the same way in college too, the coaches find somebody else and the players hit the portal…Moving around to different schools hoping to find success and money is the norm now, nobody is sticking around to grind, listen and work

100%.

Player movement at the college level had made it even more difficult for high schoolers to get scholarships out of high school. Why sign a freshmen you have to teach how to be a college player when you can sign a grad transfer or a player from a bigger school?

I see it everyday as a teacher and coach and this is one of the main reasons I am done teaching after this year. Will continue coaching but my mental literally can't take teaching anymore. I love coaching, don't like teaching enough to tolerate it.

From admin to parents everyone wants to do the bare minimum.
If plans go thru with cutting education and things related to it then you are wise to get out of that business right now…School just gonna lean more into being a babysitting service since you will have even less tools and support to fight what they talking bout in the vid

I hold my kids to fair expectations. I sometimes have to be the one that is "doing too much" because I hold them to BASIC expectations.

I refuse to let them be lazy.
I refuse to let them make excuses.

Many other teachers just let kids do whatever, I refuse. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't give them a fighting chance in this world.

WASHED KING WASHED KING please reconsider. They need you in the classroom as well.

These kids don’t know anything about adversity. Look at dudes like Lenny Cook who peaked in high school. You knew his game wasn’t going to translate. He was sloppy in the court and a year older than his classmates. Dude was a 19 year old senior.

Those 3,4,5 star rankings don’t mean anything once you get to a more competitive level. Julian Fleming was the #1 receiver coming out of high school. I saw buddy highlight tapes. The DBs were all short, slow, white, wearing no gloves with jersey numbers in the 40s, I said yeah, he gone get exposed.

He rode the bench at Ohio state meanwhile 4 of his receivers teammates went round one. Competition breeds the best. Either you have or you don’t. Once I knew I wasn’t a star, I just enjoyed being on the team and being with the fellas.

Everyone has two eyes, adults know when their kid can’t cut it athletically. People are just delusional

Unless huge changes are made I'm out. Here is another story.

Last week we made first cuts for JV last Thursday. We went from 34 guys down to 19, we have 15 jerseys and we have our last scrimmage tomorrow after which we were going to cut down from 18 to 15.

Friday during lunch the other co-head coach for JV. ( We tag team it, no one is the official assistant or the head coach, we take turns standing for games) comes to me about an issue with one of our freshmen who made the cut. This kid had ISS for 3 days due to writing a racial slur (n word hard er) during an in class assignment. He told the kid he's going to talk to me but effectively he should consider himself cut, which I agree with. The other coach he's white.

That same day during his last block planning he got called in to the AD's office for a meeting with the AD and one of our assistant principals on how "He should've slept on it, and waited to make that decision". Now mind you myself and the varsity head coach who is also black was not included in this meeting, the email chain to setup the meeting and if the other JV coach didn't tell us we wouldn't have ever found out.

I found it incredibly WEIRD they called in the one white coach on the staff who is also a teacher in the building for that meeting but conveniently left out the other two who are black from the conversation. We get presented with issues every time we try to discipline and hold kids accountable and it extends to the classroom too. BS 504's, wanting kids to be coddled for poor performance, asking teachers to bend over backwards for kids that won't meet you halfway. Man I'm gassed with the educational system, its wrecked and if Trump does what he says it's
only going to get worse.

Oh and I'm at a quote un quote "GOOD SCHOOL" in other words I'm at a school where parents throw around their money and try to bully to get what they want,

Not worth burning myself out for it.

I agree with you to a point and I'm glad your posts makes clear it's the bs that conservatives do that is 100% the problem.

no, 100% of the problem are liberals wasting time and resources debating the wall.

conservatives are the constant, BE the variable.

they cant. too busy trying to have a gotcha moment with a group that could not care less.

I will say that as obvious as it is, it still has to be pointed out.

no, it does not HAVE to be pointed out.

the only thing that has to happen is action at beating them at their own game.

YES that has to be described as horrible and shocking and surprising or it gets normalized in the actual sense of that word, and ultimately excused because of it.

It ultimately sets up disparate standards for behavior, where one group of people is sanctioned for the tiniest infractions, and the other group can skate by with incredible lawlessness and norm breaking.

Great, you pointed it out for 8+ years of Trump, and look where we are. Still fighting the good fight masquerading as progress. *jag off motion*

I get what you're saying, but I just think if it goes the way you (and I) would want, what's left but war? If it's no longer about trying to create some norm, then they go to their corner and we go to ours, and it just deteriorates until it's (civil) war. And sure, I'm an ******* and confrontational enough to be like **** it, lets do it cause I'm sick of this ****. You want me and mine dead? You see me as 3/5ths of a person? Lets do this. But the people who always die in these wars aren't the ones who are buying $250 shoes on a whim with consistent computer access and leisure time to opine over minute policy details online. It's a longer, harder slog to go the ideas route. To go the "marching" route.

And trust me, I've been through the marches. I've sung lift every voice and sing. I've chanted and I've also had moments where I started thinking about how I could take certain people out because you can only push people so long before they snap. But again, the people that will suffer and die won't be these wealthy white conservatives. Unless you have an atomic bomb, and even then, they probably still would survive, like cockroaches.

So what do you have to offer that doesn't end in war? I'm all ears, cause I don't see a 3rd option, though admittedly I haven't spent a ton of time coming up with one that is realistic.

Not sure how this can ever be fixed.

My stance has always been the schools aren't the problem, it's how folks are living (forced to live) outside the schools.

“Forced to live”?? Please explain.

Folks don't choose which family/neighborhood they are spawned into at birth. Tough cycle to break out of for the vast majority of folks born into those situations.

Family of course…..100% champ. Neighborhood on the other hand…..I’d say 50/50, maybe even 60/40 in favor of voluntary choosing to live in the hood or worse yet still carrying on a hood mentality no matter where you live…..shout out to Connecticut Avenue NW and the voucher program.

Might be a tough cycle to break for some, but the cycle and stupidity that comes along with it needs to be broken immediately. Also, folks can’t and shouldn’t make excuses for bad behavior…..simply unacceptable.

Nah, I'm talking about the KIDS.

The child has no say so over where his family lives, so therefore the child's educational situation will most likely suffer at the hands of his living environment.

At a very young age sure. At some point in time even as child the choice and decisions you make is all on you. Either you want better for yourself and your family or you don’t…..if anything your living environment should be a driving force behind that.

Yea but again, living in that world can negatively influence your mentals, so it isn't truly a CHOICE being made.

Sure at a certain point in life, you have to do better because it's YOUR life but I see a LOT of kids on the middle school level that are pretty much already dug their figurative graves. 9/10 times they won't be retuning from the holes they are currently in.

That's why I'm always on the fence about whether going down that path is truly a decision being made by folks living that life.

Don't believe ANYTHING from Fox Baltimore when it comes to schools.
I got got at least 10 times before I'm like yeah, they are out and out liars.
They aren't real news in Baltimore.

It's not a matter of IF they warped a story, it's how & why. The why is obvious, too many black folk. The how is always something new.

Don't fall for it. I've seen a cool 50 of their "Project Baltimore" stories over the years. Like I said, the first 10 got me. First few I'm like okay, wow, that's crazy. Look into it and it's wait, that's misleading and in fact an outright falsehood. Next few I'm like well they can't just be lying again, can they? Lo and behold, they were. Next few after that I'm like okay, they're actual journalists and wouldn't just lie on TOP of lying, right? And before I could even digest the stories I found debunking of them.

L I E S.

At that point I stopped believing anything they put out, but there are usually people who go through and point out just how Fox Baltimore has warped a school related story to fit their "CiTy in CrIsIS!" bs. I don't know what they twisted or lied about this time, but best believe it's there. I already spent my time, as described above, giving them the benefit of the doubt and being let down each time.

One of the local journalists NOT at fox about 10 years ago slipped and said some racist (not a slur) stuff on air. She got ****canned. Couple weeks later, guess who hires her? Fox.

Don't believe anything they say about schools yall.

Yea don’t pay attention to Fox 45 (WBAL, The Banner and sometimes CBS for news coming outta there)…The Sinclair group, which is a republican conservative outfit targeted Baltimore bout 10-15 years ago took over the station and newspaper and all they do is talk about how bad the city is, exaggerate and make **** up…They also got into politics and try to stop any progress the city trying to make like they ran a campaign on mayor term limits when the young dude in charge started doing well and unfortunately the citizens fell for it :{ , then they tried to block the redevelopment of the harbor this election but it ain’t work

Pretty much their goal is to try to make sure it’s no growth and progress in the city so they can move the current folks out for the low then move their ppl in

Schools have been an issue in the city for a min but trying to make “reimbursing taxpayers” a headline is just stupid :lol

No point trying to explain family and environment factors to yo…You know he thinks kids should be on their best behavior once they can walk or else send em to jail, 7 year olds gotta bootstrap it and figure their own way out the trenches :lol :{
