Africans do not understand the history of african americans.........they just look at it like "you're just lazy" they have no understanding of the oppression.....our story is similar with them but they don't get itSo this is the root of your dissociation from Africa. Immigrants in this country are ignorant, African immigrants adopt that mentality. Hell Africans don't even like each otherIt's not whether I believe it, as an American citizen I'm part of that history everyday I spend still here. I have the option to leave. I stay, I shoulder that, I shoulder living in a country that hates me, but this is the land if my forefathers and I ain't leaving.
Until my history is straight, until MY people are good, I'm not concerning myself with the atrocities of other nations. One thing at a time.
I'm not 'African American' and Africans aren't my people anymore than Europeans or Asians are my people, on the individual basis absolutely, but as a whole, nah I'm a Negro. because I've experienced some true racism from Africans, they on they on the list too.. I'm not asking you to befriend Africans, I'm asking you to teach your children that there's more to black history than slavery.
The older generation def doesn't want to be associated w/ african americans......the younger generation are more aware and enlightened by the plight so they're usually not ignorant at all
I use to be uneasy about it but I've learned a lot from my girl fam (sierra leone).....these folks grew up very poor and the opportunity to come to america is something we can't fathom. Most that come over here were probably as poor as anybody else here but they went through the struggle to provide themselves with a better life.
African folks are good people if you ever get in with them...whether it's through dating an African chick or w/e......they all look out for each other and they practice group economics
Their food is also good as ****.....I love sitting down and listening to their stories while drinking a Heineken
