In April 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics becomes one of the world's worst man-made catastrophes.

Who caught the premiere last night?

First episode was dope. Like how they foreshadowed things with the bird at the end.

HBO also dropped a podcast companion to the show with the show's creator that they dropped right when the episode ended. Gave a lot more insight to some of the things that happened, and how this story is going to progress.

I'm in.

I'd say watch first, but only because that's how I did it. The pod gives a lot of context to what happened and may ruin some stuff in the episode (and the series as a whole).
Damn nobody about it :nerd:
I thought this would be way more popular. Hopefully it picks up, 'cause I need to let off think pieces on it every week.

I'll eventually check it out Chernobyl story just seems like it's just been done too many times.

Yeah, how many episodes is this? I don't normally binge many shows but this is something I probably would lose interest in if I had to wait for weekly episodes.

Don't quote me on this, but it seems like I read somewhere it was a 5 episode limited series. Meaning no future seasons, which makes sense because WTH would season 2 even be about.

Watched it last night.

Characters were depicted perfectly with how the Russians were during those times. The amount of fear they had to even speak up to those higher in command was portrayed exactly how it probably was. Dudes knew how delusional the generals and commission were, yet still followed orders.

I liked it but one thing that kinda bothered me was that they all spoke English.

I’m used to that. English is the default for shows.

I’ve been re-watching Rome and just now thought about how they should be speaking Latin (I think that’s what they spoke in the empire).

Episode two was good. More of the same really, but a lot more in depth. That whole lava explanation had me like

They just explaining all the atrocities that can and will likely happen and sounding like no one had a plan until the absolute last minute and all the air had been sucked from the room.

I imagine that's how it happened, but I have a hard time buying that that spirited speech about sacrificing yourself because no one else can was enough to convince three dudes to sacrifice themselves, but I figure they really didn't know the extent of damage to their bodies that would be done.

It'll be interesting to see how they figure this out, because the fallout of what they were trying to divert would have been insane (avoided reading up on the actual story, so not even sure if they actually succeed in avoiding another explosion).

Show is great, you just have to pay very close attention. Had me zoned in for most of the episode last night.
