Chuck Barkely talking about black people... again...

It's the typical half-wits, not worth it bruh. Not to be mean, but they really can't even comprehend what you're trying to say, not at this stage of their development atleast (somehow you're a self-hating negro despite what you're saying). You're having two different conversations.

To a more prominent and self respecting position in society?

He was largely talking about the crabs in a barrel mentality.
Let's take a close look at this, very close.

Why is he talking to a white audience, about what Black people should be doing?

Isn't he doing, exactly what he claims other black people do?

Throwing all black people under the bus, is not necessarily productive.
I would assume because the topic was brought up by that white person.

When you say white audience I assume you mean the other white ppl in the room and not all of the possible listeners of that show. I hope the former is what you meant. A topic is brought up, you got an opinion on it, you not gonna speak your mind cuz you not surrounded by black ppl? :lol :{

If you think Charles was talking about ALL black ppl and thus throwing them all under the bus I don't think this can be take any further. You seem to have some pretty limited and rigid perspective.

If I hear any black person say something like black ppl need to get their act together and stop embracing violence. I'm not gonna feel any type of way cuz I don't do that and I also wouldn't assume that person was talking about all black ppl. If that person was they'd be including themselves as well and that wouldn't even make sense. It's clearly targeted to the black ppl who do do those things.
That quote isn't meant to be taken in the most consistent literal sense. I'm sure if you quoted the whole thing he'd be giving his reason for why he "hates" white ppl and then we'd get some context but if you don't want to do that okay.
Did you watch it? The link is right there.

He said exactly what he meant, literally.
Yeah I just clicked the whole link and I still don't see a vid or the entire quote.

Just "that's why I hate white people." and then no correction "that's why I ****-ing hate white people." The whole piece seems to be a white person trying to take the high road in response to Barkley's blanket statement. Given the other quote of "**** me and my family" which seems incorrectly quoted I can only assume Charles was probably very agitated in w/e situation he said what he said.

The link fails to provide context and yeah I see no video.

Black american culture, we live in america dont we?
 Black American culture, what's that?

If you are from the Caribbean, and you are living in America within your own culture, are you living in what is considered Black american culture?

If you can define Black American culture, you then will understand why that does not include ALL Black culture in America.

In '92, Charles Barkley called an African during the Olympics, a spear chucker.

During this interview, was Barkley talking about him as well?

man you acting like Charles a self hating urban fellow. He ain't.

Debateable. He damn sure wont ever be confused for pro black.

Either way a successful black person should know the struggles of others like himself. We were born into this, some get caught up, some don't.

I'd rather blame the system, not the other victims.

From another board:
To be 100..... I don't want to hear anything white girl worshipers have to say about the black community....

You not for the black community.... why are you talking?

Agreed 100%. You don't even want to extend your black bloodline.

You're not concerned about us, but you feel the need to criticize us......to a majority white audience.

If Barkley himself wasn't good at putting that ball through that hoop, those same people asking for his opinion on these matters would just look at him like another no good "N".

In short, koons gonna koon.
Honestly this thinking has to stop :lol

You gonna condemn a black man cuz he aint marry or have kids with a black woman? He marries a white woman and now he worships white girls? Now they're not for the black community? Is that really how it goes? Is that the math on that? So essentially every mixed blood black person that would be considered a ****** by a racist is also ostracized from the very same group they're apart of? :{ :x

Yall dudes have seriously twisted views of marriage and love and all that other ****. Yall want to put the black man in a box and say he can only do this one thing with this other group of ppl.

That's why black people ain't gonna get nowhere
This means ALL black people, regardless of cultural differences.

Okay, I am going to continue to be respectful, regardless of that slight.

Who are his people?

Are Black people monolithic?

What are we doing to move forward,

Why hasnt there been another "black community" similar to the harlem renaissance since blacks stick together?

Yeah all black ppl that are guilty of what he was just talking about.

Also it's possible that Charles believes that until all black ppl begin to do better (every individual) that black ppl really won't get anywhere as a whole. Some actually do believe it'll take a nation of millions.

This negates that there are actually millions already doing better. Focus on the good, the growth, you'll eventually dampen the voices of those trying to pull you down.

No it doesn't negate that. As far as the topic goes he's specifically talking about this group of black ppl.

Maybe he doesn't want to focus on the good. Maybe he doesn't think the progress so far is good enough (I know I'm not satisfied). Sometimes you see some ignorant **** prevalent in a or your society and you want to speak on it cuz it pisses you off. If other black ppl who aren't even being addressed feel some type of way about what was said instead of trying to get the guy to shut up, figure out some way to get rid of the problem being talked about? I mean saying there's millions who are doing great doesn't negate those that aren't and are perpetuating stereotypes and reveling in ignorance.

This would come down to a disagreement on a approach. Not everybody can continue believing by ignoring the negative and only focusing on the positive will lead to eventually drowning them out. Also I don't think Charles is worried about being pulled down or back.

Charles is right. Maybe it's not an issue in your everyday life but it is an issue. Cornball brother statement is the same as not being black enough

Barkley isn't right about anything. He simplified a issue, that he isn't intelligent enough to fully comprehend to explain properly.

Why are "some" black people anti-education, maybe that has something to do with generations of black people not being allowed to even read, and beaten if they did. Funny how 50 years is supposed to erase the previous 300.

A lot of people are putting their own hang ups in to what he said. You were treated differently or were picked on, because you were corny, different or didn't fit in. There were intelligent people who didn't. Kids got picked on for being poor, fat, short. It's what kids do.

I agree with some of his opinions. Sad there's terms called square and cornball and ****.

the reason why black dudes go broke is b/c a lot of them never knew money management coming up b/c they were poor as ****...

the same w/ lotto winners... it's not just a black thing, and i hate that it's perpetuated like that. look at the amount of lottery winners that go broke...

i can bet money if you look at prior income to wealth, it's directly correlated w/ how fast they lose their money... you have SOME outliers

Gotta take issue with this point (somewhat).

Was I living paycheck-to-paycheck when I was working retail for $8.50/hour? Absolutely.

HOWEVER: was I living paycheck-to-paycheck when I got a job making $21/hour?  Absolutely NOT.

Why?  Because I understand that lifestyle inflation is stupid.

It's not like I was extremely privileged all my life...I was raised by a single mother that made $30K a year.  I was just fortunate enough to learn to live within my means from her.

It's not a "black" thing, it's not a "poor" thing, it's a "stupid" thing...and stupid people come in all colors.

Lotto winners are a bad example.  I've never encountered a smart person that buys lottery tickets regularly.

The lottery is pretty much a tax on people that are too dumb to understand probability.

Certified clown ****.  This dude is full of Tom Foolery, and anyone saying he is right stuck on that foolery as well.  He stay doing the "white mans" biding.

Charles brings up a great point, but he is leaving out half the guilty party on this issue. I've def heard this from my black friends, but I've also heard this from my white friends (yes they were checked on site). When white kids do it, I almost get it, they feel threatened by articulate black men. But for our own people to do it to me shows a deep-seated belief that equates intelligence with skin color. Thing is, this isn't individuals who mean cause harm to me, or "hold me back" so to speak- at least in my experience. It tends to be a combination of friends by association and women I've dated. They will say something pretty ****** up (unknowingly). They either label as white because I use a certain term, or pronounce all my consonants, also they generally use a flippant tone on something that really isn't funny. The moment we as black people start to consider well educated blacks the norm, is the moment it will become the norm.

I think back to a situation during my undergrad years when I was in a very "liberal" area of the united states. I was with a racially mixed group of friends while riding public transportation. To our left there were 2 African men speaking fluent French to each other, my white friend leans over and says:

'wow, that's crazy they are speaking flawless French'

'word?'

'yeah, I mean that's crazy'

'no, it's not actually, french is their native language'

Had to check that ****. Dude STILL tried to argue with me on why it was amazing. It is hard enough having to fight this from outside sources, let alone people who look like me. This pervasive ignorance that we as black people endure
mean.gif
. We also have to stop feeding into what the society has deemed as white, and make it colorless.
