TNT said there back for at least a year, so are y'all gonna go through this every year?
I just rewatched that segment, they said for at least a year because the sale to Vivek isn't official yet.

But once the Maloofs sell them to Vivek they'll be around for at least 35 years
smile.gif

I don't even really understand what that means, honestly. What do they want him to do, take his ball and go home? He wants a team and he's willing to pay a lot of money for one. THe league would be dumb to just ignore him from here on out.

Flailing is a poor description. Flailing is Kehriotis. Flailing is not having an arena deal in place. Flailing would be not having a strong ownership group in place. Flailing would be not having political support. What Hansen has done is not flailing at all, he's wowed everyone that's paid attention to this saga closely by making the moves every Sonic fan has been waiting for a hero to do.

about the kings laker rivalry its looking like we both might be sucking for a few years :lol

and only one group of people the fans of seattle should be pissed off at right now and that is those big dummies the maloofs...

those dudes are a joke and hopefully they will never ever own an nba franchise ever again

I'm actually happy for you and your fellow fans. It was rough watching you post about it a couple of days ago. Congrats :hat

Can't be upset with the Maloofs, really. They negotiated in good faith with Hansen. Stern wanted the Kings to stay, and he gets what he wants. Stern also hates Seattle, so that doesn't help.

Congrats guys

Let's hope we don't wake up to a headline that reads "MALOOFS INTEND TO KEEP" though

But if everything goes smoothly... Kings fans won't need to worry about trading for Marquis Daniels who's out with a bad back for the rest of the season just to get over the MINIMUM salary threshold. This new group should be more committed to spending the cash where they can. Kings fans shouldn't be excited just that their team is staying (which is amazing), but also that their team isn't gonna be run by a family of selfish, business-inept idiots who aren't even trying to put a decent product on the floor, yet still cheer like douchebags when Beno Udrih hits a halftime buzzer-beater like they're the ****.

The new arena is about to be nice, too :smokin

About three more hurdles and we're home free.

The decision wasn't about Stern wanting to piss on Seattle. Following their own constitution the NBA could not allow the Kings to move. RCK posted it here:

http://niketalk.com/t/507195/official-nba-2012-2013-season-thread/61380_20

The fanbase in Sacramento is strong, the political backing is here, and there's an arena plan in place. If the roles were reversed Sacramento would've been denied and Seattle would've kept the team.

I beg to differ. As a Seattle fan, you're well aware of this type of owner who negotiated a deal in the dark and with bad faith toward one side. Just like Bennett had no intention of keeping the team in Seattle, the Maloofs have no intention of keeping the Kings in Sacramento, which is why they didn't put the team out for bid before approaching/being approached by Hansen. They had already turned down a deal w/ Burkle 3 years ago and have looked to relocate the team 3 other times since then without approaching any Sacramento investors.

Lebron

LeBron James said it was “awesome’’ hearing the news that Sacramento likely will retain the Kings. "Just me being in my 10-year career, to have an opportunity to go to Sac. once a year, I think it’s awesome for that city,'' said James, who played his first NBA regular-season game in Sacramento in 2003-04. "Those fans deserve to have a team, what they’ve meant to the Kings and what the Kings have meant to that city. A special, a real, real special shout out to Kevin Johnson, a dear friend of mine. And I’m happy that the team, from what I heard, will be at least be there for another year. And then we go from there. So I’m happy for those fans.’’

Also, let me try and clarify on what I attempted to decrypt what I said last night about the TNT comment about the Kings staying for at least a year....
as of right now, relocation will be denied and that deadline has passed. So there is no where for the Kings to go for now. As of right now, neither Hansen nor Vivek are owners of this team... the Maloofs are. Until Vivek is officially vetted as the owner of the Sacramento Kings, I've got like 2% of uncertainty in this
laugh.gif

How pissed would the other owners be if the Maloofs rejected Vivek's group after the BoG rejects Hansen? I'd imagine they'd be irate for singlehandedly lowering the value of every team in the league :lol

The Maloofs even got upset at KJ for bringing Burkle into the mix in 2011

I need to find the video of this but Gavin Maloof literally, angrily yells into the camera and says "I don't know who Burkle is, tell him to go back to where he came from... The KINGS AREN'T FOR SALE"

On top of that, its my understanding that the Sonics were at least on the market for sometime before Schultz maloof'd it and sold it to Bennett.

I am 100% confidant if there was even a sliver of chance that Maloofs were willing to sell, KJ and company would have jumped all over that opportunity

Appreciate it homie. Posting about the potentially moving Kings always brings out the lengthiest, kinda emotional posts from me

actually, ya now that I think about it I remember writing a Meth-like essay in 2011 about the Kings moving.

Though Keith Smart had his option for the 2013-14 season picked up in Sacramento, everything is in flux with the Kings until their future is formally decided in next month's Board of Governors vote. Jackson had been viewed in league circles as a favorite -- along with the Spurs' R.C. Buford -- to head up a relocated Kings franchise in Seattle. But even with the league's relocation committee voting unanimously on Monday to recommend that the Kings' relocation bid be rejected, Jackson's involvement in the Sacramento franchise should not be discounted due, in part, to its relative proximity to Los Angeles. Also, no franchise would be more malleable for Jackson's vision than one with a new owner.

The Sonics were "on the market" in the sense that Stern knew about their availability and immediately introduced him to Clay Bennett, who was willing to pay $50 million more than the team was worth. Schultz saw the dollar signs, and took it without thinking. It got fast-tracked to the BoG, and by the time that press conference happened, nobody knew anything. If someone like Steve Ballmer actually knew about it, he would have stepped in. The fact not a single thing leaked about it over the course of many months means Schultz never even bothered offering the team to anyone else. We've been over this.

Appreciate the kind words @KingJames & congrats on beating the Bucks.Like the Heat, we feel we made it to the next round of the playoffs too

Looks like the Maloofs took note of Schultz and decided not to let anyone but Hansen know, that the Kings were for sale.... in a way this is sort of poetically similar and opposite of Schultz/Stern/Bennett, in that the Maloofs and Hansen only knew about this and did it behind not only the backs of the home town, but in this case, behind the backs of the NBA as well
roll.gif

Leave it to the Maloofs to think that is a good strategy.

This. The fact Seattle didnt get a bunch of chances to get a bunch of investors together like. Sacremento just proves how bs this whole thing is. If this was in 08 the arena would have been started

Hearing Napears story of the Grizzlies (their TV guy is from Sac and called Napear) team reaction while they were in the air on their flight to LA last night was pretty cool. The team plane broke out in cheers when the news broke for them up there..... are there even any guys from Sac on the Grizz??

*shrugs* Donte Greene was on that plane, maybe that was the reason :lol

Or players have more love for the Kings than we give them credit for. Just not enough to come through as free agents

I don't know what else to say, but sorry and I really hope you get a team, just not the Kings.

And had KJ failed, or in your eyes, if the NBA didn't giftwrap this and hold Sac's hand thru this, I would have reluctantly been glad yall got the Kings.

I hate to say it, but it seems like the only difference between Seattle & Sacramento is that we got a heads up through an accidental Tweet. I believe that Seattle would have had a similar strategy & outcome if they had had similar time to prepare. Either way, as I've said before, just because the Sonics were screwed through a similar situation doesn't mean that it would be right to do the same thing to another city to right that wrong. Yes, Seattle still has an open wound regarding the Sonics move and I don't think it will ever be healed because of the way it happened. But I think it would be best for the league to give them an expansion team, or a team that has lost its fan base over numerous years and has little chance of recovering. Not just an owner who wants to move the team for the highest price.
