"Dear Jesus, I masturbated yesterday and betrayed you....but check out my new shirt"

Also someone said all sins are equal? So if I cut someone's throat and rub one out, they're equal? AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Just for the sake of saying this and not to you Ska because I have no idea about yourself, but when you say "Second, regarding the statement 'ifyou've read the Bible': I have a degree in Advanced Biblical Studies. Does that count as reading the Bible?".........Really doessnt hold muchweight I know plenty of people who can tell me back and forth about the Bible and Still not understand it as im sure you do as well

I'm glad my semi-testimony brought up some valid points.

but hey if it means anything, i picked up my bible for the 1st time in like 2 years & read some of it.

baby steps... it's not gonna be easy to stop doing alot of the things I'm doing

but RKO summed it up pretty well for me by sayin "we must repent and turn from sin the best we can."

and ska is that dude
pimp.gif
i didn't know he was a straight up bible scholar. cool

We're all taking baby steps with you man. I haven't even found a church yet but I have one in mind. And man I still slip up to this day, leaving fromsin is no where near easy.

To the non believers, like ska said, God doesn't expect you to be perfect. He's been around FOREVER so He knows how hard it is for us. The only thingsthat are asked is know him, love him, follow his word and serve him. The things that the bible God is against are things that harm us mentally and physically.I know many of us and maybe even myself have come off judgmental but on the behalf of us I apologize.

Now when you guys say religion/spirituality is a form of control, what do you mean? The rules, guidelines, God, what exactly?

This thread went in the complete opposite of the direction I thought it would. I agree with SKA's post by the way.

I... *sigh*... I hate that there are so many Christians lost in a cloud of delusions, misinterpretations, and false teachings.

Off topic, but my wife's parents just asked her over the weekend if we ever think about the fact that our son is 18 months old and we've never taken him to church; the only time he has been in church have been the 3 weekends he has spent with them. We had never had this talk with her parents before, but she finally just flat out told them 'No it doesn't bother us; we're doing it on purpose. We want him to know the teachings of the Bible, and the church is one of the last places he'll learn them.'

The church would never tell you that lust is a sin, but still a forgivable one. The church would condemn you for masturbating, leading you to believe that you should feel ashamed and unworthy, when in reality, the sin of lust is no more or less forgivable than any other sin, and God honors all efforts towards purity made in His name and for His will.

If you believe in God, then this applies: God made us, so He understands our human nature. Perfection is not His goal for our lives.

Sorry, I know there's a lot in all of that.

The shirts are ridiculous. The message behind the shirt is laughable. The people behind the message have missed the point.
what church do you go to i hate when people generalize like this as if all churches are like that my church is not at all like that
I promise, your church is not the tabernacle of Godly, Biblically sound holiness that you think it is. Promise.

Your elders, are they the upstanding members of society that the Bible calls them to be? I can tell you right now that a majority of them, if not all of them, are volunteers who have thrown their name in the hat and have been selected by your church's board members. Role models for the community, or those appropriate enough to hold a collection tray while holding the people's trust that he won't dip into the collection tray?

Your pastor, is he about... ABOUT... improving the community before improving the church? Does he spend a majority of his office time doing work pertaining to the church, the choir, the youth group, the different clubs and congregational gatherings in the church (like the potluck this Sunday afternoon, or the conference he'll be attending next weekend, on the church's dime, of course), or does he spend a majority of his time on the phone with homeless shelters, abortion clinics, foster homes/group homes, prisons, jails, rehab centers, nursing homes, and other facilities needing the service of a man of God? If I were to donate $100,000 to your church, what percentage of that would go into the church, the people in the church, the people working in the church, the youth group... and what percentage would be used to feed the homeless, take care of the oppressed and defenseless, serve those less fortunate, and improve the community?

my pastor is more likely to improve the community first before the church.we have outreach ministry every saturday where we feed the homeless. my pastor doesnthave office time cause he works two jobs plus being a pastor. thats why we have other ministers who are not paid working in the different ministries. if youwere to donate that amount of money it would all go to the church and the different ministries i.e. youth, missionary, and so on. my church is a small churchin the ghetto trying to reach out to everyone in the community. so you need to go check yourself before you go runnin off at the mouth.

and for your for your first paragraph no one is perfect we all have our downfalls but i know for a fact our elders strive to be the best they can be but theyare not perfect

juss cause you have had bad experiences doesnt mean every other church is like that you cant generalize all like that.
its like sayin since im black i can play basketball and rap

I'm sorry but I always see you around as the Christian who seemingly hates all Christians. If you've read the Bible you'd know how important a church is in a Christians life. One of God's goal for our lives is to make us closer to His nature which = perfection right? It seems you've been that dude who's been misinterpreting the Bible.

I'm not saying all churches or even most churches teach the Bible correctly, but you are def. straying away from scripture. Find a good Bible believing church get ya doctrine straight.
.
"The church would never tell you that lust is a sin, but a forgivable one." I'm pretty sure
First off, I don't hate all Christians. I don't hate anyone. However, I do hold my brethren to a standard of clarity, tolerance, self-discipline, and an unending search for wisdom, a standard that is directly in line with the callings that Christ gave for followers of God.

Second, regarding the statement 'if you've read the Bible': I have a degree in Advanced Biblical Studies. Does that count as reading the Bible?

Third, yes, His will = perfection. But no, perfection in our lives is not what God has called us to be. Let me ask you, do you believe that the disciples who wrote the New Testament were meant to be 'role models' (for lack of a better phrase) for the rest of us? Sure, Christ is our ultimate example, but considering that He is the Son of God, He holds qualities that we don't. But John, Paul, Peter and the gang were regular humans like you and I. With that in mind, why do we read in the New Testament that our human examples struggled to maintain perfection?

From Romans 7: "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.... As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do- this I keep on doing."

The Bible is, according to my belief, inspired by God. The New Testament is, according to Jesus Christ, a new guideline for what God expects for us. And right there in the New Testament is a passage written by Paul describing the struggle for doing God's will and falling into sin. Why would that description of struggle be in there if God didn't want it in there?

Fourth, how much personal study of the Bible have you done? I mean, for yourself. I'm not counting going to church and flipping the ol' Holy Book open on the preacher's prompt. I'm not talking about jotting down the scriptures he uses for his sermon and then going home and cracking the cover open to look at those scriptures yourself; that's still his work your looking through. You're just doing it on your own time; your studying his work on your time. How much of your own work have you put into learning the Bible? If you're going to tell me that I'm straying from scripture, I would expect that the knowledge you're pulling from would be the scripture as you've studied it on your own, not the scripture as you've been told.

And lastly, of course churches believe in the Bible. Practicing the Bible's teachings is not the same as believing in it. Did you know that 10% is not a requirement for tithe? Now what church would teach that? What church would teach that giving money isn't even a requirement at all? Despite what churches would have you believe, 10% of your income is not a Godly requirement, and neither is giving any money.

First of all, the part I highlighted. That's not the church "condemning" you, that's called the Holy Spirit's conviction ofsin.

Second, I've put in hundreds of hours of personal time into Bible reading, studying of scripture, etc. I don't understand how you think whatever apreacher uses does not count as your own time? How is reading Bible verses he quoted his work? Was your point made because of you being against churches?Lol...Anyway I've not only read the Bible, but have studied many of them on my own....

Third, on Paul's verse about our human nature. Yea, I believe and agree with it 100%. I don't get the point you are trying to make? Of course everyonestruggles. It's our human nature. Part of the doctrine he's trying to make is that we can't reach Christ like-ness on our own flesh. Only throughChrist.

Fourth, you still haven't answered about the church. Why would you forsake the church if it is ordained by God? Of course when I said get into a good Biblebelieving church, I also meant one that practices it. It just seems to me you've had bad experience with the church. And some of your doctrines arestraying to the extreme of things that it becomes undoctrinal.

I can't answer a question on why I've forsaken the church, because I haven't. But so many people have taken this 'ordained byGod' phrase entirely too far, using it to justify actions that I don't see supported by the Bible, the Word of God. A pastor can get all kinds offunding, erect an awesome building with LED parking lights outside and track lighting inside, and no one questions anything because 'Well, who are we toask questions? He's ordained by God, and the church is ordained by God, so we need the God-ordained building to look it's best.' Like Jesus or anyof the apostles were 'churching' in buildings featuring the latest technology of the day.

You find me a church of humble character, both in the character of the building and in the congregation, a church that places a HUGE emphasis on improving thecommunity (looking after 'the alien, the fatherless, and the widow'), a church that holds a congregation filled with people who are about service andhumility... you show me that church, and I'll show you a rare example of a Biblically-sound chapel.

You generalize preachers and congregations. How can you say you haven't forsaken the church when you don't attend one, and it seems like you don'tever plan on attending one. Growing in the body of Christ is one of the most important things as a Christian. How can you love God but not his people? word toI John

Maybe Ska is smarter than to take the bible literally? Maybe Ska doesn't buy into the hypocrisy?

Ska, we've discussed things before man. Just don't give up looking, don't forsake the fellowship.

As for your initial post, Amen.

The problem starts with lust not getting all the way to acting it out. Jesus said in Matthew 28 I believe and I'm paraphrasing: He who looks at a womanin lust has already committed adultery in his heart.

So with that you must include if you single or female also. It's starts in the mind with everyone and that's the battles we must win first beforeacting things out and then making T-shirts.
