I think directv just made a deal with twc!

Not Sure what your talking about Here!

http://www.examiner.com/article/lakers-tv-blackout-update-ready-to-lose-november

Lakers games look to be held hostage for all of November as DirecTV and Time Warner Cable (TWC) representatives become entrenched in their positions. Read: Blackout is stupid brinksmanship

Over the weekend, TWC took out full page ads in the L.A. Times and the Orange County that said in part:

"Unless you have (they inserted names of cable companies who have settled with TWC) you will miss the next nine Lakers games starting tonight."

The ad listed the games to be played until November 30 when ESPN will broadcast one that all fans can see.

It might have been in response to DirecTV's hard line taken during a financial analyst conference call last week by Mike White, the company's CEO. Read: DirecTV earnings up, still no Lakers

"Our customers bear the brunt of these exorbitant price increases, and it's just not sustainable, And all of us at DirecTV are going to continue to stand up for what we believe to be is the right long-term decision for our business in each of these disputes, putting our customers, always, first."

As has been said before, the six companies who came to an agreement with TWC, including Cox Cable, with a subscriber base not that different from DirecTV, didn't have a problem making a deal. Read: Cox Cable settles with TWC, customers get their Lakers

No customers have been hit with a price increase yet. It is lurking in the wings however, but I know of no Lakers fan who doesn't realize a bigger cable bill will result from getting access to the two exclusive channels that carry games and home-produced content about the team.

What they don't want is to pay a lot more for superfluous channels that would be bundled with the Lakers content.

The DirecTV approach has been consistently reported to be one that would allow it to put the TWC channels on a special tier. In that fight, TWC stands with the fans because it will cut the number of eyeballs on the games, eroding ad revenue.

Those packages cost a lot more than the $3.95 per subscriber TWC originally asked for.

Make no mistake about it, DirecTV is not "putting our customers, always first." Not customers who want Lakers game.

Their concern is for those that wouldn't watch the channels, absorbing an increase in a bill for something they find irrelevant.

Meanwhile, how many of us could live without HGTV, HSN, REEL and more channels? Yeah I thought so.

I'm stunned and laughing that people actually think this is a good fit.
-I see the little Nash chart with DAntoni but that was YEARS ago. Nash is older and not the same player.
-LA doesn't have the youth, speed and shooting of Phoenix
-How many rings does he have? 0, because his system doesn't work.
-They're blowing up this "Phil didn't want to travel" BS. He asked to miss the same amount of games as he did his last tenure with LA which was a few. Some of y'all make it sound like he wants to skip every road game.
I watched him coach my Knicks and his firing was better than the day of my first born. Guy is a bum and should not be a head coach. I expect this team to put up a lot of points and win a good amount of games but come playoff time. I'm expecting them to get swept every year or win just one game.

I can see why you're mad. Thanks to D'antoni your Knicks were crazy enought to pay Amare 5 years / $99.70 million :{

Are rings the only barometer you're using to determine if D'Antoni's system does or does not work?

And when you're best player is THIS motivated, it's more understandable when the team fails...

Mike D'Antoni can win with this group. He may not preach defense, but as long as Dwight is on this team, and they have a defensive coach that they listen to, they will be fine.

If the Lakers lose, it will because the other team is better/played better, not because of the coach.

Mike Brown being the coach, I understand. D'Antoni? I got faith that this will work.

Isn't it all that matters? The guy has zero rings and will run into problems with Kobe. Has had good teams but his style of "offense only" is absurd. Look at last seasons Knicks record with D'Antoni and Woodson. One was successful and one wasn't.

Rambis is saying that Phil was not asking for anything unreal and his agent was flying in today to talk salary.
The Lakers told Phil to think on it over the weekend, and they would meet Monday.
Then, the Lakers sign Mike late last night, before Phil could say anything.
If this is true, this is bad by us. Phil legit could have been the coach today, without unreal demands as some idiot "sources" are speculating. And the fact Mike gets 3 years/12 mil (4 per for you mathletes) tells me they saved themselves a ton knowing Phil would easily get 10-13 a year like he used to. They may have done this to save money, and not have to deal with Phil again.
That's bad business. And in that set up, would make me unhappy. If Phil said no, or did ask for the moon, ok, I'll live with Mike, but if Phil was coming, and wasn't asking for anything outrageous, then we made a bad move.

which pisses me off the most because the usual mike brown defense team is running with this as the main excuse they are happy with the antoni signing.

i have calmed down a bit. i still am sick of these laker homer fans who will defend anyone the lakers brass signs. seems like they would defend adolf hitler if the lakers made him the head coach tomorrow.

lets see what happens with antoni. our championship hopes are done though. you aint gonna beat the thunder or heat without defense...

Ultimately, yes. BUT, to say his style of offense is absurd is more or less talking out of your *** bro. Team's all over the NBA have since adopted bits, pieces, and entire schematics from D'Antoni since he implemented early in Phoenix. His team's have been in the upper class of offensive efficiency. If the offense didn't work, none of this would be true. And then you go on to say he'll clash with Kobe....with what proof? Because he clashed with Melo? D'Antoni had a part in coaching Kobe among other players during the Olympics. No reported problems. And Woodson is successful now? LOL, where's his ring since that's all that matters....amirite?

Phil Jackson statement

Phil Jackson statement on Lakers: "Saturday morning, Jim Buss, called to ask if he could come and visit. I did ...

not solicit or ask for the opportunity, but I welcomed both he and Mitch Kupchak into my home to discuss the possibility of my return to the Lakers as the head coach. We talked for over an hour and a half.

"No contractual terms were discussed and we concluded with a hand shake and an understanding that I would have until Monday (today) to come back to them with my decision. I did convey to them that I did have the confidence that I could do the job.

"I was awakened at midnight on Sunday by a phone call from Mitch Kupchak. He told me that the Lakers had signed Mike D’Antoni to a 3-year agreement and that they felt he was the best coach for the team. The decision is of course theirs to make. I am gratified by the groundswell of support from the Laker Fans who endorsed my return and it is the principal reason why I considered the possibility." less than a minute ago

You Knick dudes need to stop comparing your franchise to ours.

Kobe is not Melo, he's FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR and away better than Melo ever hopes to be. Kobe will get along perfectly with D'Antoni offensively. Kobe actually can pass, he just doesn't like to, but he can do it. Melo, not so much.

Pretty sure Dwight/Pau/Nash didn't play for New York either, so why are we comparing the two teams? Seems really stupid.

And Mike was a hip check away from a title in 07 with the cheap *** Suns. Knick fans seem to be forgetting that for some reason, I have not.

Would I rather have Phil? Yes, duh. But is Mike a horrible fit for this roster? No, not at all.

only a handful of coaches have rings today so whats your point?

dude hasnt even coached the squad yet but hes gonna have problems with kobe?

Will you feel a little better if/when Mike hires a D Coordinator to run that aspect of the team? Worked for Doc in Boston, although I don't think we will get a Tibbs or someone close to him.

And look at the bright side.

No Mike Brown.

No Mike Dunleavy! :rollin

I would have busted my *** off laughing if the Lakers ended up with Dunleavy.

Im really looking forward to a Nash Meeks Kobe Pau and Dwight lineup.
More so looking forward to a Nash Meeks Jamison Hill and Dwight lineup. I hope dude is down to switch up rotations. It still hurts knowing the fact that we could have signed Phil but we just didn't.
ask yourself this tho... would you be just as unhappy with the decision if PJs name was never brought up as possible coach?
Yes. We didn't need an offensive coach and not this type of offensive coach. Hardly anybody thought Phil was seriously comin back until they found out we were talking and ppl were already throwing better names out there. It sounds and I probably will give him no credit if they win a championship. Alvin Gentry took them closer to the Finals than D'Antoni and with a worse team.

Lakers need just a backup PG... Backup SF....

Jamison isn't necessary unless he balls out the next month with 12ppg in 20 mpg (if not he's expendable)... We need a profile of all the guys who fit the criteria of those two positions and work well in a D'Antoni P&R offense... Whether it be they are knockdown shooter... Corner 3 specialists... Can run a P&R... Or for the opposite, they can play solid defense man to man.. Doesn't need to be both sides of the ball (although it is hoped they do).. So long as they fit one.

gotdamnit if directv doesn't get a deal anytime soon, might be time to switch.
I'm thinking about calling them and saying I'm switching to cable just to see if I could get some discounts...

hope they don't call my bluff though.

I'm not saying I think my squad will win a ring with Woodson or that I think he's an amazing coach. That point was to show what he did with a team compared to D'Antoni.

To everyone talking about bitter Knicks fans and us comparing. Kobe is my favorite basketball player of all time. If my Knicks aren't winning, I want to see Kobe get a ring. Kobe's at the point where if he doesn't agree, he's going to rebel and do his own thing. You think he respects D'Antoni? Why, because he was the assistant coach? Kobe was bumping heads with Phil but had no choice to respect and follow Phil because of all the rings and his legacy. What you think is gonna happen when Mike D'Antoni, the man that got fired midseason tries something Kobe doesn't like.

There seems to be marked improvement between D'Antoni Knicks and Woodson Knicks but the personnel and structure of the Knicks roster is completely different from the Lakers.

Also it's tough to point out that D'Antoni's system never worked as if it'll hold true... he never had a roster with Dwight, Kobe, Pau, and (an older) Nash. It's not a guarantee that the system will work better because the names are bigger and different than they were in Phoenix... but to say D'Antoni's system reached it's ceiling with Nash/Amare/Marion/Diaw/Bell is premature too.

but the offense is not the problem.. yeah i dont have faith in the system, but with kobe on offense, you know he'll try to put numbers on the board.. it's the defense that is the issue, and defense is also part of the system.. and when you have explosive players on your roster, i am thinking that defense is more of an important aspect.. because you know offensive minded players will get their points

OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS...
